OT - Cano seeks $305M for 10 years

Yeah, if I were a GM I don't think I'd ever want to lock up a guy beyond 5-6 years. There are just way too many variables that go into future performance.

CEO kind of money, even if you spread it out over a lifetime contract, which 10 years would essentially mean.
You could argue that Derek Jeter is more valuable to the Yankees, and he isn't worth that kind of money. But then, are CEO's worth that much to their business?
When you talk that kind of money, aren't you changing the form of compensation from salary to something else, you know like to a piece of the franchise? Is one guy worth it?
Maybe if he were the face of your business, but Robinson Cano isn't even that on the Yankees, and they are the the most valuable franchise in baseball.

I can't imagine the Yankees would ever entertain anything that high or for that many years. They are still dealing with A-rod disaster and the person responsible for that disaster, Hank Steinbrenner, is not involved in the decision making process again. They also have Sabathia and Texeira as looming examples that paying stars over $20 million per year into their mid-30's is not paying off. Can't imagine more than 5-6 years which still might be a few years too many.

Nobody is paying him that much. Especially with the Yankees reigned in payroll.
Think of it this way... Cano isnt turning down 10 years 250 million if anybody offers that, so no need to go much higher.

i don't see why anyone would do that. Or why anyone would give him anything even close to that. Come on Cano!

Tiger fans need to start paying attention to Cabrera's contract situation (he has two years left after this season) and how grossly underpaid he has been according to market value. His current deal pays him an average of $19 million a season.
I don't expect Cano to get his deal but if he did, Illitch would pretty much have to double Miggy's salary and lock him up until he's 40 if he wants him to be a Tiger for life.

with Cabrera. DD saw the talent with the Marlins and brought him to the D. I'm sure he'll finish his career with the Tigers. They'll open the checkbook.

Can't wait to see his imminently lower next demand. I think he's trying to make it a money issue so he can keep his fan base, I'm a Yankee fan and everyone absolutely HATED Cashman when the Jeter issues were going on because he easily has deserved every penny we've ever paid him times a million. Can't quite say the same for robby though, hmm

Hey, why not? He should absolutely try to get as much money as he can for himself, just as we should. If someone is dumb enough to pay that, props to him.

Didn't the Dodgers just announce a $7 billion rights deal with Time Warner this past winter? $30 million a season for Cano is walking-around money for them.

Hov = the new Boras?
I really hope Jay-z makes it as a sports agent because it should inspire a new breed of agent... That and he is my favorite rapper...
