I hope DJ pulls it off just to get the monkey off the pack from Chambers Bay and the PGA championship a few years back when he "grounded" his club in a "sand trap", which was more of a walking path for spectators. Speith winning a 3rd straight would be pretty epic as well.

to like Dustin Johnson but to be honest he really comes across as a complete knob.  He did get hosed at the PGA though, I will give you that.  If he is clicking and the weather stays nice for the most part be may literally be too long for the Old Course to mount any serious defense.  He could run away and hide if he goes low tomorrow.

away would be a nice story. It would remind me of Tom Lehman in '06 when he narrowly lost to Steve Jones in the playoff at Oakland Hills (that must have been before they went to a full Monday 18-hole playoff?) and turned around and won the British.

However I just can't get "golfer who cokes/coked up" out of my head when I see him play. Super talented guy, I hope he's getting it together now that he's part of the Gretzky royal family.

I'm rooting for the young guys.. Speith going 3 for 3 in majors so far would set him up for a historic year and make that last
Major that much more interesting. Fowler is always fun to root for.. DJ seems to have the formula.. Hits it long and straight and is putting like the hole is an ocean. Lots of cool storylines

Supposedly healthy.  Lots of prep time.  A course where he has previously had success.  Is there any better evidence that it is probably over for Tiger as an elite golfer?

love him?  In all seriousness, I have been on the "don't write him off" bandwagon for a while now but I see little evidence to conclude that he can compete with these guys anymore.  40 isn't particularly old in golf but it ain't young either.  Jack winning a major at 46 is considered one of the great accomplishments in golfing history.  The clock is ticking and his play continues to deteriorate.  I think washed up is in play at this point.

What’s rather remarkable to me is that the 190th ranked male golfer in the world already has won a little over $225,000 in 2015.

The British Open will be the eighth tournament in which he has played in 2015, and it looks like this will be the third time that he'll miss the cut. He's currently tied for 140th, eleven strokes behind the leader. In fairness to him, he was four over after seven holes, but then played even par the rest of the way. At even par, he would've been tied for 64th and seven shots behind the leader.

Even if Tiger Woods continues to miss the cut at major tournaments and can't crack the top twenty in most other events, he still has a chance to earn a lot of money playing golf.  If he hasn’t squandered most of the money that he had left after his divorce, then he just might be able to continue playing on the tour. His only problems will be (a) the loss of sponsorship opportunities and (b) the possibility that his expenses to continue playing on the PGA Tour might be significantly greater than his income from tour events.

Thank You OP for calling it the British Open. Changing it to "The Open" and expecting everyone to go along with it is just dumb. It's like when the NCAA added those stupid play in games for the tournament and expected us to call them the first round.

"the Open" locally where it is played, "British" was added because the American audience typically referred to the US Open as The Open.  I like "the Open" better but people do unnecessarily freak out when somebody calls it The British Open.

kind of boring but it is because he is so good that he makes it look easy.  If you watch an entire round of his you really start to appreciate him though.  His game is boring because he never puts himself in positions where he has to play "exciting" golf.  His game is almost error-free.

How is his game boring? He's an exceptional putter, usually knocks his irons close, and generally hits the ball straight off the tee.

Maybe it's his persona you find boring.

Because he's smart around the golf course and minimizes mistakes makes him anything but boring in my eyes.

his follow through locks as if he never takes a full swing. Guys like Rory and Tiger among others swings are so loose and smooth. Speith's seems like he cant go through any further or something because of a lack of flexibility.

Yeah... I wanted Tiger to have some miraculous comeback but that ain't gonna happen.

:(

I guess Spieth winning 3 majors in a row for the first time in forever would be cool.
