I hate ESPN's coverage of Favre and to some degree I hate how he keeps handling it, but I do like watching him actually be the quarterback for a team.
And since he's going to the Vikings, obviously we'll get to see him play the Lions and probably far more interesting, the Packers.

As a Packers fan, can't say I'm too happy. Didn't really care too much about Favre's one year with the Jets since we didn't play him and he was in the AFC conference, but for him to go to the hated Vikings, this is way different. This is just like Boren going to OSU; unacceptable and a traitorous move.

and while maybe not to the level of M and OSU - I would rank it about the same as M and MSU, given the close ties between Minnesotans and Cheeseheads.
The Twin Cities is at least 25% packers fans and many mixed households. Friends, co-workers, neigbors - Packer/Vikes games are always crazy intense for vikes fans at least. I know the fudgies also fancy their rivalry with the bears, but for the vikes - Fudgies are it.

This is the biggest F-U to Packers fans... Could you imagine Elway "retiring" then coming back and signing with the Raiders? Aikman to the Redskins. The fact that he courted the Vikings as much, if not more, than they went after him (prior to Jackson's injury anyway) proves he's a vindictive self-promoting jack-ass.
I hope he embarrasses himself this year (even more than the last 5 games with the Jets last year)

The Packers pretty much forced Favre to retire. He has every right to want to shove it up their ass.
With all of the jobs that have been "consolidated" or eliminated in Michigan, I would think a lot of people there could relate to him. I had a nice job "consolidated" last year myself, and I can relate. I know Favre has plenty of money so it isn't the same situation, but a player who has done for a franchise what Favre did for the Packers deserves to leave on his own terms and I wish Favre well.
I would love to see Favre come back, beat the Packers twice, and leave on his own terms. After all, it isn't really his fault that ESPN has their noses up his ass.

Favre retired of his own accord, and the packers refused to let him fuck up the future of their team by coming back mid training camp. Its not green bays fault favre is a whiny, indecisive bitch.
Also, that is a very poor analogy. Favre wasn't laid off, he quit, and after his team moved on, and spent valuable time and resources prepping his replacement, he decided he didn't really mean it, and he wants to come back. The packers don't owe him anything, they already gave him millions of dollars, and they put him in great situations to succeed.

If he was allowed to "retire" at the post game press conference and "un retire" Sunday morning, every week, I can guarantee that Brett Favre would do it.

But he's not. He's in the news, again, for backing out of retirement at the last minute. At this stage the game appears to be secondary to the media attention he's getting. The whole process seems to be drawn out as much as possible. If he was more interested in playing football than in the media circus, couldn't he have signed in Minnesota or elsewhere months ago?
Once he's in the news again for what he actually does on the field, I'll be fine with it (like last year).

Except that he doesn't seem to want to play the game badly enough to go through a preseason, like everyone else has to do. He wants the rules to be bent to his advantage. Why should I admire that?

He's not asking anyone to bend rules. He's not signed to a contract; therefore, he doesn't have to come to preseason camp. If he were signed to a contract but wanted to skip camp, that would be a different story.
The Vikings are the ones who are willing to bring on Favre. If they didn't think he could help them despite not having preseason camp, they'd say "No thanks." But Favre's services are need (or desired, anyway), and they're willing to put up with that. If you ask me, the Vikings are the ones letting this happen.

First off... why blame ESPN? It's Favre who is being a massive douche and jerking everyone around all the time. ESPN's coverage is no different than the month long "WILL FRED THOMPSON RUN ARGH" election coverage from 2007.
This is a good development, too. It means the story is over for at least 9 months.

I can only hope for that Brent has made a pact with the same devil that allowed Moon and Randall Cunningham (and to a lesser extent Jeff George - who I heard also called the vikes looking for a job) to revivie their careers in Minnesota after their careers were on the downward plane (Moon less so than Cunningham who was out of the game running his concrete business)

I know, Moon didn't have Moss. The Vikings were 9-7 the year before Moon came in, though, with Jim McMahon under center. I don't think Moon had to sell his soul. Cunningham and George benefitted from having Moss on the team, thoguh.
