i mean.... I agree with you 100% that the show is as vapid as an East Lansing sportswriter but we're all on a college football fan blog and have collectively spent a non-zero amount of time parsing the tweets of high school four-star recruits to divine where they might play next year, so let they without sin withhold the first rose?

I actually have a not sarcastic answer to why some people watch. I used to watch this show with my roommates (we had 2 girls and 2 guys living together) before I moved out. We had a blast watching...

We'd all drink together and watch the first episode where you learn about the bachelor and all the girls and then each pick 3 contestants we thought had the best shot to make it to "hometowns". Then the entire season was spent talking shit about one another's picks. Pretty similar to why fantasy football with your family/friends is enjoyable.

To further increase the enjoyment we'd each create a rule for drinking before every episode, something like: drink every time anyone says "here for the right reasons" or "this journey", or every time there's a kiss. Inevitably we'd all be hammered after watching the 85 minutes or so of actual screen time after zipping thru it on DVR. We'd spend much of the time watching the show basically making fun of all the people on the show and the show itself. Good times.

It's the peak of cheap cheesy drama. A lot of guys in this thread need to get over themselves and realize that watching a hilariously cheesy drama with a bunch of hot girls isn't so bad. You'd be shocked how fun the show is to watch when you're with your friends and sipping on some beers

The corny, cheesy, monsters of the week and absurdity of Buffy and her buddies out slaying demons and vampires is most definitely cheesy.

At the same time, it remains authentic in the way it tackles issues/relationships and relates the experiences of the characters to those of the audience.  That's why it's loved... not because of the quality of production.

That's kind of the point.   Cheesy doesn't mean it has to be bad.

It's terrible TV and it's total trash. That being said, I watch it with my wife (used to be one of the things she would bond over with her overseas cousin) and it's can be entertaining in a vapid way. Drama (even manufactured drama) has some entertaining moments, and the different cities they travel to are cool to see.

The vast majority of TV shows are trash when you think about it.

The safest bet of all:

-60000 odds that all 3 of the women will be paid lots of $$$ to "influence" other women across the country to buy various products over the next few years.

(I worked at one of those companies over the last couple years - can't share details but their contracts pay very very well.)

The only reason I would watch that show would be to make some girl/woman believe that I am sensitive and romantic. Of course, I would then immediately be put into the friend zone. So, I'll continue to skip it.

The only remotely interesting thing about shows like this from a sociological standpoint are why shows like it exist, who watches them, and why. There’s no real sociology among the participants because it’s scripted horseshit. None of it is authentic. It’s acting. The same applies to pro wrestling.

I mean the bookmakers literally already know what’s going to happen (you can too if you want) so betting on it at this point seems ridiculous.

My wife and I watch it each Tuesday and this season has been a doozy. We always talk a lot of shit about the show's structure, the contestants, and the lead but they've been making it really easy lately. Our favorite thing to do is catch how little personality Clayton has when he speaks to people and just basically repeats back what he's been told. It's like he's unable to have an original thought.
