OT—Adrian Martínez OUT for game at home vs Iowa
https://www.ketv.com/article/husker-quarterback-adrian-martinez-is-out-for-iowa-game/38323091#
From the article:
“LINCOLN, Neb. —
Husker quarterback Adrian Martinez will not play the Friday when the Iowa Hawkeyes take on Nebraska in Lincoln.
"Adrian won't be available," said Husker coach Scott Frost at his Monday news conference. "He has a shoulder injury that he's going to have to get addressed after the season.”
Tough blow for Nebraska, Frost, and for Martinez especially. Huskers are now really staring down the barrel of a 3-9 finish in Frost’s fourth season..

Well, there goes their season.
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:40 AM ^
Underrated comment.
They will probably win now.
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:44 AM ^
Oh no, nobody cares about their season. They have a shot at statistical history here, as you may know. This is depressing news for that reason alone.
November 23rd, 2021 at 11:13 AM ^
They're still going to lose by 4 at the last second thanks to a pick-six, as nature finds a way.
November 23rd, 2021 at 7:51 AM ^
There goes their chance at history. No way they keep the game within 7 pts without Martinez.
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:13 AM ^
I think 7 pts is still possible. Iowa won't be able to score more than ~10 on offensive drives, with another ~10 from Martinez turnovers. The backup QB simply needs to protect the FB and there is a good chance of something like a 14-10 game.
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:02 AM ^
Love to see a quarterback who gets out there and protects the fullback
November 23rd, 2021 at 10:22 AM ^
I don't know about this.
Given all their struggles with Martinez starting, you'd think we would have seen their backup by now if he was remotely capable of putting them in a position to win games.
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:28 AM ^
You give the Iowa offense too much credit
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:13 AM ^
Iowa is better with Spencer Petras on the bench.
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:52 AM ^
As far as starting B1G QB's go, I would put him at 13th. NW is a bigger dumpster fire at QB but not by much.
I still think Neb wins this game. It's like Iowa has a choice between Threet/Sheridan to run the team.
November 23rd, 2021 at 10:45 AM ^
I also think Nebraska could actually win this. No knock on Martinez, but that might just light a little more of a fire. Nebraska's defense is actually pretty good (#22 to SP+) and Iowa's offense is pretty atrocious (#93 to SP+). I expect a low-scoring game that NU could win - or lose by 4 points.
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:27 AM ^
Yeah, that Iowa offense certainly is a bitch
November 23rd, 2021 at 7:55 AM ^
Oof. That's rough. Never thought I'd feel bad for Frost but this season has been an unreal accumulation of blows.
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:47 AM ^
Don’t ever feel bad for Frost or Nebraska. I hope Iowa beats them 50-0
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:50 AM ^
Nah. Iowa needs to win, but by no more than 6.
November 23rd, 2021 at 11:28 AM ^
This is exactly the cause for which I'll be rooting. We need the statistical oddity of a team outscoring its opponents in conference play... and finishing 1-8.
November 23rd, 2021 at 10:36 AM ^
+1 Informative
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:19 AM ^
I'll start feeling bad for Scott Frost when they stop claiming the "Coaches," i.e. Sport Information Director's, Poll as a championship. I remember 1997.
November 23rd, 2021 at 10:51 AM ^
Fuck Frost. Not sure how he wrangled another year out of this season - four years of zero bowl games and losing in embarrassing fashion in most games. In only one of the four years did he surpass Riley's worst year. Don't see anything changing next year - even if Martinez comes back for his 17th year
November 23rd, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
I might feel bad that Opie Taylor had his likeness infringed upon but I will never feel bad for Scott Frost.
November 23rd, 2021 at 7:56 AM ^
He’s also apparently been playing with a broken jaw. I know these guys are expected to tough it out but … damn.
November 23rd, 2021 at 10:37 AM ^
+1 Interesting
November 23rd, 2021 at 7:59 AM ^
Watch them win and then everyone pivots to thinking Adrian was the issue...
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:00 AM ^
2AM has given everything he has for Scott Frost, and then some. Nebraska's Devin Gardner.
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:31 AM ^
He is definitely physically tough. It does lead to a question about other options available at QB. Did the Huskers have much help from their running backs?
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:06 AM ^
While you can't really feel bad for Frost, those players on Nebraska have had a tough season, and yet they have kept fighting. Hats off to them, and if I were a betting man, I bet they beat Iowa and end the season on a high.
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:30 AM ^
If you were a betting man, you’d go broke.
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:44 AM ^
They kept fighting and playing hard because their head coach kept them interested and believing.
Frost has a lot of limitations as a head coach, but he sure can get guys to play for him...
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:18 AM ^
Line already moved from NEB -3.5 to IOWA -1.5… doesn’t seem like enough. Also how crazy is it that a 3-8 team was favored over the #17 team in the country? Nebraska football!
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:03 AM ^
Only slightly crazy if Vegas has seen the Iowa offense in action
November 23rd, 2021 at 10:29 AM ^
Isn't "Iowa offense in action" something of an oxymoron?
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:24 AM ^
I genuinely feel bad for Nebraska this season.
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:44 AM ^
It's hard not to... I'd much rather see them beat Iowa than ever see Iowa win. In fact, I'd rather see Nebraska be a really good team - it would make it easier to hate them as much as I want to.
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:47 AM ^
I do not, I was told by my Nebraska football loving friends that Nebraska would dominate the Big 10 when they joined.
I want them to be reminded every year they are no longer playing Kansas, Missouri, Kansas State, Colorado, Oklahoma St., Iowa State, Pacific, Western Carolina, Central New Mexico Tech and College of the Plaines.
I'll never forgive Tom Osborn for continuing to play Ahman Green so he could win championships, I'll never forgive Scott Frost for the blattant lobbying for votes for a national championship and I'll never forgive the coaches for voting for Tom Osborne's going away present. Screw Nebraska
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:15 AM ^
Me too. I can hold a grudge.
Don’t forget the kicked football.
November 23rd, 2021 at 11:24 AM ^
I feel bad for the players because they didn't sign up for this level of ball-punching, but in general I agree that Nebraska the program can screw off. What I'll never quite forgive is that Nebraska beat Missouri because of an obvious kicked ball that the refs allowed for inexplicable reasons in the moment and beyond.
November 25th, 2021 at 4:25 PM ^
Yes, F Nebraska. Don't forget Tom Osborne and his lack of discipline of Lawrence Phillips first grabbing a student around the neck, then a lunch with an agent and finally he dragged his girlfriend down the stairs by her hair. And Osborne claimed to be holier than thou, eventually being elected to Congress. 100% hypocrite. Then there is the flea kicker vs Mizzou and Frost whining afterward.
As a former Mizzou fan who watched them routinely run up the score on us and other Big 8 teams because they could, I love watching this school squirm.
November 23rd, 2021 at 8:44 AM ^
Is it possible that this season, with the lowest win total for his tenure, is actually the best season of Frost's time as HC at Nebraska?
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:01 AM ^
Without Martinez, Nebraska has a legitimate shot. The backup is less likely to make the two or three bonehead Martinez plays that costs the Cornhuskers game after game.

November 23rd, 2021 at 9:21 AM ^
Nebraska and MSU. 2 polar opposites. Nebraska #33 in the S&P, MSU #34 yet Nebraska is likely going 3-9 and MSU will either be 9-3 or 10-2. Is that good coaching for MSU and bad coaching for Nebraska or just an extreme amount of good luck for MSU and an extreme amount of bad luck for Nebraska. Pretty interesting.
Watching how bad MSU has looked since our game makes it really hurt even more that that game slipped away from us.
November 23rd, 2021 at 10:51 AM ^
That loss felt like a gut punch to me, but I'm over it already. It turns out to be mostly a moot point.
If we beat Ohio State, we go to the Big Ten Championship game with a shot at the CFP. If we lose, we go to the Rose Bowl which is an awesome consolation prize.
Just like would have happened with a win over MSU.
November 23rd, 2021 at 11:17 AM ^
MSU being 6-2 in conference and having a score differential of +6 while Nebraska is +4 and 1-7 is why it's gotta be hard to be an AD. Like, with Nebraska you can point to a history of meh results to guide you but woof.
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:35 AM ^
Oddly the game opened with Nebraska as a 3.5 pt favorite, with him out, Iowa is now favored by 1.5.
November 23rd, 2021 at 10:01 AM ^
As long as they out hit Iowa they win by default.
-Mom Frost
November 23rd, 2021 at 10:21 AM ^
"They are better than their record. Best 3-9 team in the country."
LMAO! Fuck the Cornholes and their shitty coach Frosty...
November 23rd, 2021 at 11:23 AM ^
Don’t see any NFL prospects for him just yet… does he grad transfer this offseason? Seems like he’d benefit from a fresh start away from Frost.
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:36 PM ^
Well there goes any chance for my 2nd fav team Minny. Not that they have much of a shot vs Wisky.
November 23rd, 2021 at 6:07 PM ^
They can’t catch a break.
November 23rd, 2021 at 6:41 PM ^
Oh Darn poor Cornsuckers
