OT: 10-Year-Old Lebron James Jr. has College Offers; Lebron Sr. Unhappy

Submitted by tjyoung on

There was a post a week or two ago about how Lebron's son is 'better at basketball than you' (which has since been taken down*).

As a follow-up Lebron James Jr. apparently already has some college offers...as a 10-year-old. Lebron Sr.'s thoughts?

"It should be a violation, you shouldn’t be recruiting 10-year-old kids.”

Link here.

Also, another link that provides a quote from a rival coach:

"Ohio State coach Thad Matta has already said the younger James “will be” on his radar for recruiting."

*Although the last post on Lebron Jr. was taken down, this seems to be relevent to the board given past posts on the increasing emphasis on early recruitment.

Glad LeBron Sr. is saying something about it.  The problem with stopping stuff like that is that it works.  People like to feel special, and parents like their children to be special.  If you want to stop it, parents and coaches really need to put a stop to it, say it's unacceptable.

whatever; this unique exception will probably never happen to any 10 year old not of a once in a generation NBA player. and not like it matters anyway since they can't sign for years later. how'd that 8th grader committed to usc turn out? mac level?

It would be stupid for coaches not to start courting his son.

Remember Joe Camel? Even though kids weren't old enough to smoke, Joe still planted the idea in their heads so when they hit 15-16 and had friends old enough to buy cigs for them, they did.

This is incredibly gross, and I'm glad to see LeBron thinks it's gross. D1 schools offering scholarships to a 10 year old should be grounds for getting your entire program nuked, as far as I'm concerned.

I coach a 10 year travelling basketball team here in Northern Ohio, not far from Lebron.  I can tell you without a shadow of doubt that the basketball I watch being played week in and week out. bears no resemblance to the video recently posted on Lebron's kid.  My players, God love them, start crying on the court when a call or play goes against them and at least once a game I've got somebody "hurt" shortly after they make a mistake on the court requiring them to come out.  In other words - they act like little boys which is a 10 year old is for God's sake.

I cannot even imagine recruiting a child to play basketball no mater how good he might be.  And i really cannot imagine how badly little "Bronny's" team would destroy mine if we ever got matched up against them.

It's truly embarrassing. It's pretty clearly a blatant attempt by these coaches/schools to associate themselves with LeBron and all that he brings by shamelessly going after his son.

I'm sure baby Bron has had all of the best coaching in the world, but he's still 10. He could end up being a carbon copy of his dad, or he could end up being 5'10" and not have the winning ticket to the genetic lottery.

Regardless, it just seems like shameless pandering to try and curry favor with the greatest basketball talent of the past 20 years.

I can only hope Matta is still the coach in Columbus in ten years. I think we've got that guy figured out pretty well. Bronny needs to weigh his options and talk to his cousin Trey. Ann Arbor may be a good place for him to get a year in before going pro.
