Olivier Nkamhoua Visiting on June 2
This is a positive development. Tennessee big man Olivier Nkamhoua is visiting on June 2. He's a 6-9 athletic guy from Finland who is also considering going pro. He's visiting West Virginia on May 27, but the chatter seems to be favoring Michigan if he stays in college.
Welcome to Ann Arbor, big fella!
ah yes, as a yooper i can tell you that Nkamhoua is a very common finn name. just like, say, juntimaki, heikkenen, lehtonen, neimi, and many others....
not sure if serious dot gif
At least he is taking his time. Once he announced the visit to WVA I thought he was as good as gone. This is good news.
If you see him on the street, give him a "Hyva Siniset!" (That's "Go Blue" in Finnish.)
that would be neat but one thing I know is about Finnish is I have no chance in hell of pronouncing 90% of it intelligibly
That's OK, because the Finnish don't even know how to pronounce their language 90% of the time.
i'm guessing he's money near the basket
They desperately need talent, so hopefully Howard gets him.
This is a crucial point in the program, and need this guy badly... and after watching this video, I have to say, how is this guy not salted to be drafted? He looks like a stud. What am I missing ? He wouldn't even go in the second ? Hard to believe there are 64 players ahead of him.
Probably because he's older and doesn't have much of a offensive bag. He seems like a good athlete, can be a good defender, but mostly scores from the dunker spot and off cuts to the basket. He does have a nice looking jumper, but he seems like he only occasionally shoots some face up mid ranges in the post and from the 3. I think he'd be a great fit on our team, but he doesn't look like a NBA guy to me.
Have to remember he played for Tenn. Which is not a good offense to play for to showcase offensive abilities. One good thing is he played for a defensive team so he should already be good at that. Definitely need to get this guy to be one of our main scorers which is what he wants. As of now we offer him a better chance to be the guy then WVU. Also we have Juwan and he can really make a player good in one year with his knowledge and abilities for the NBA.
Unfortunately, without cash this probably isn't going too far.
Seems correct. Every time I read about the guy there's a comparison of NIL and what he could score in Europe, where he'd apparently have an edge because of his background.
Yeah, he's from Finland so he wouldn't get caught up in those league rules where you can only have X number of US-born players.
Hoping this one is more about the best place that makes him NBA draftable. Which I would say we have the big advantage over WVU.
Need it!
Good. We need a backup to spell TWill 8-10 minutes a game
deep sarcasm
"Over my dead body."
- U of M Admissions, probably
Go Blue!
So if our NIL and admissions department both suck, you have to give Howard a lot of credit for getting players to Michigan (or at least initially committing before being turned away.)
Howard got bawked by Diabate, Houstan, and his son leaving early (and Bufkin too). He needs to recruit players with more talent and less potential, so that they don't bolt right away. Old school centers, short point guards, etc. who can produce in college, but won't get snapped up by the NBA on what they could be. Think about how hard Howard would kill it if we fixed NIL and admissions.
That is sorta what he did with guys like Collins, Dug, Anderson, and now Phat Phat and the back to the basket centers. HD specifically. One guy we lost out to Duke to was Derek Lively who didn't even start and didn't play much yet he is going pro. Going to be a first Rd pick just off upside. The guy who started over him had a season which he would have been a first Rd pick for sure and he was down to Michigan and Duke. Duke got him now Kyle Flipowski (not sure if last name is spelled correctly) is going to be a first team All-american for BBall next year. Kyle was a more old school center but with new school to his game also. Lively is more like a center for the NBA. The point is it is going to be hard to pick and choose players based on NBA potential alone and have a successful team but JH looked like he was doing that at the PG and C positions. Shorter PG and back to the basket center. It would be great to find the next Edey or Luke Graza. Guys that dominate college ball buy aren't fits for the NBA today.
