They're still in denial that they got smoked two games in a row.  They're also saying Michigan will still end up with a #10-15 ranked class when its all done.  Oh, and pretty much anyone that picks Michigan they never heard of him or he's not going to be any good.

Thats pretty much all they have over there.

Damn I hope Michigan beats them by 30 this year.

I remember this time last year we were informing MSU how April recruiting rankings didn’t matter. That’s still my sentiment, though being #1 is still pretty cool.

It’s only April and numbers will change when October/November roll around, when the top rated holdouts have secured their financial future with Bama, Georgia, et.al., but I love to see Harbaugh and his staff working with such great talent.  Adding talent to their ability to create team chemistry is putting the POS in Posbang.

I want this class to be rated #1 in the rerank 3 or 4 years from now.  With our coaching staff's ability to develop players, I'm not so concerned about being on top right now (but we have to be within striking distance).  Temporary bragging rights are still bragging rights!

Agree.  Packing your team with 5 stars isn't enough to ensure getting into the playoffs.  Alabama, with all their high star players, didn't get in, and OSU barely squeaked in.  I believe too many talented guys vying for limited playing time is very tough for programs to manage well, because expectations of 5 star players is quite different from 4 and 3 star guys.  Team chemistry, leadership, and player development are critical elements that Michigan pays attention to, as OSU has found out the hard way.

If for only 1 day in the modern CFP-era, I will take it as a dream come true!

Ask any Michigan football fan in 2020 C19 season, if they would bet we'd be here.

Its only April, but I have to imagine being #1 right now is a much better indicator of finishing with a great class than being ranked, oh I don't know...lets say #38

Pretty sure we were ranked in the 50’s around this time last year and MSU was around 10 FWIW. Class size is a pretty big factor to consider up to this point. 13 schools have 10+ commits, all of those schools are ranked in the top 20.

Bama is #17. Oklahoma is #28. Texas is #60. USC is #61.

Like you said, it’s only April. Much will change. The fact that Michigan’s class is over half full with an average over 91 is the biggest indicator that we’ll finish with a great class. I look at that fact much more than where we’re specifically ranked at the end of April.

Crystal balls are so unpredictable, simply because different people use them differently. Some put in a prediction based on who they think leads at that point in time, some wont put a prediction in until they hear something concrete, some just throw a prediction because others have.

For example, MSU has the crystal ball lead for Beasley simply because a bunch of MSU predictions from MSU insiders came back in September. He’s currently trending Michigan. WHEN the crystal balls are placed is often more important that how many a certain team has

I agree, average recruit ranking is probably a better indicator of the quality of the class.
My first thought/comment was about wishing this list could be sorted by average to see where Michigan stands and my quick glance says its still a top 5 class, if we're looking at schools with at least 5 commits.

But its a posbang thread so I deleted that, figuring a light hearted jab at MSU seemed more appropriate.

I wouldn’t even go as far as to say average is the best way. Using average opens you up to outliers skewing the data.

Zach Ludwig carries a .8550 and that drops the class average quite a bit. We go from 91.87 to 92.36 if you exclude him (there is some debate as to whether he’s a scholarship or PWO commit). Is the class worse by taking an additional player that has a lower rating? It’s probably silly to say that, which is why the recruiting sites use an overall points system and not just average rating.

I think you just have to take each class with a bit of context. It’s not just average, it’s not just quantity. You find the balance.

Where does everyone realistically think this class will end up? My guess would be 5 or 6. Behind Bama, Georgia, OSU (ugh), and probly one or 2 more A&M types throwing around NIL money

I think it’s a lock to be a top 6 or 7 class.  Another really strong showing on the field again this season could boost this class into the top 4 or 5, which I think is Michigan’s recruiting ceiling right now.  Of course, win a national championship and that ceiling gets broken.

I'm not sure the ceiling goes higher than that, even if we win a national championship. There is always going to be a not insignificant percentage of the elite high school kids who either want money to sign (which michigan has been vocal that they don't like), who aren't interested enough in school to come to Michigan, or who are bad cultural fits.

I think michigan is starting to get to the point where we are getting all of the players we want, and that's an exciting place to be.
