If things don’t happen today. Then Harbaugh leaving is more of a possibility. Warde needs to get control of this before it turns into even more of a national clown show.

It is not surprising that a fan forum devoted to Michigan sports is the place most focused on the status of Harbaugh.   I also think there are a number of very reasonable people on this blog on both sides of the wanting to keep Harbaugh and wanting him to leave.   The subset of people who I actually find most unrealistic about this whole thing are the subset who want him to stay but somehow think that the delay in signing a contract has nothing to do with Harbaugh having interest in the NFL.

If those people were right and this was all about ironing out a few details, this most definitely has been a clown show because it is hard to believe that the uncertainty hasn’t impacted our recruiting and if they are right, much of that uncertainty was completely un-neccesary.

I think it is extremely unlikely they are right because Harbaugh looking at the NFL has always been the better option.  Therefore I would agree with you, up til now, Manual has taken a reasonable approach.

What makes you think he doesn't have control?  I suspect he's just waiting for Harbaugh to make a decision.  Why wait for Harbaugh, you ask?  Because they're good friends, and nobody wants to be the bad guy or to get vilified for something.  It may not be the best thing for you, but I don't think they really care about that!

I would counter that this is a business and Warde needs to ignore that friendship.  By sitting around and waiting for Harbaugh to make a decision Warde has put himself in a place of weakness.  As his boss, Warde needs to push Harbaugh to make his decision already because the longer this drags out the smaller the pool of available coaches gets.  We're already seeing other teams make moves.

Yes a position of weakness.  Whether Harbaugh is retained or not is up to Warde. It has been widely reported that Warde has offered Harbaugh an extension and Harbaugh is deciding whether to agree to the extension or not.  There are also rumors flying around that Harbaugh is considering a return to the NFL.  By letting this circus drag on Warde has given Harbaugh the upper hand and has shown his inability to take charge and give Harbaugh an ultimatum of either signing the extension or terminating his employment.

As of right now no one that Michigan should hire has taken another job, but like I previously said, the longer this drags on the chances of that increases.  I'm not only taking about Harbaugh's job but also the DC position and all the assistants that are rumored to be leaving/let go.  You can't hire a good DC when the head job is a giant question mark.

Here's what probably happened: Mich and Harbaugh agreed on an open relationship. Mich checking out coaches and Harbaugh checking out NFL positions. If one finds something they like, they move on. If Mich is actually not looking at other coaches while Harbaugh is looking at other positions, then it is indeed a clown show.

I doubt Warde is conducting a coaching search now. Harbaugh has a 5 year extension waiting to be signed. Harbaugh is waiting for the NFL offer, if he is offered a coaching spot with the Chargers or Jets, then he is gone. Warde will be scrambling later this month or in February to try to find a good coach, even after all of the good coaches available have been taken by other Universities.

Perusing Adam Schefter's twitter page I see no mention of Jim Harbaugh being pursued or interviewing for any of these jobs so far.

Chiefs' OC coordinator Eric Bieniemy is doing virtual HC interviews today with the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons, per source.

Just my opinion, but you see names come up who are already coaches in NFL. Lots are playoff teams, so I think that has to be public knowledge with your team still playing. Others link their names out to gain traction. Most college coaches don’t do this, and will keep things on down low due to current job/recruiting. I don’t think you will hear Harbaugh’s name come up with “interviewing”. You will either see he signs the extension or this continues to play out and you will see breaking news that Harbaugh is next coach at Jets/Chargers.

They'd have to have the interviewee list lined up this week, which I expect they did knowing Lynn was gone.

Now they can formally call the people they want to interview.

This is the one offer JH can take and keep a happy wife.

I think the decision is obvious... Live in AA and continue to coach, after this tire fire season, or move family back to California, and coach Herbert.

I predicted two weeks ago here on this blog Harbaugh will leave this week and a new coach will be named within two-three days. Call it a gut feeling based on logic and what has transpired but none of the actions of the last few weeks by Warde or JM has made any sense besides this happening.

I could be eating crow soon, but if I’m right we will all look back and say it all makes sense now. Jim knew and had to wait until firings became official. Warde knew and was quietly looking for interested candidates which would be the most low key and under the table search ever.

And of course, there is a good chance he’s back and we all wonder what the hell is going on with M football and the leadership. But I believe he gone and new coach soon.

It'd be nice if this were true. Seems like nowadays (always?) no one anywhere can keep their damn mouth shut for 10 seconds when nearly everyone signs a confidentiality form when they get hired.

I have no idea why the first thing that seems to occur to a lot of people is to blab to some reporter, but to each their own.
