Nike countdown: jersey pricing guide

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

For those of you who like buying and wearing jerseys to games, I thought I'd make this helpful since there are definite differences between the retail jerseys sold by adidas and Nike.

I've had this buyer's guide set up since last year, but since it's OT season and the countdown clock keeps ticking, I figure I'd share it.

Football

Adidas has 3 types of jerseys: Replica ($65), Premier ($85) and Authentic ($180).

Replica was the cheapest material. Mesh and screen-printed numbers. Premier had sewn-on numbers but still had a pure mesh material, but it also had polyester sleeves.

Authentic was the authentic thing, as evidenced by the price.

Nike has only two types available at the moment for college teams. Replica ($85) and Limited ($135).

Replica ($85)-

Screen-printed numbers, and less detailed.

Limited($135)-

Stitched, tackle twill numbers. A lot more detail to the jersey in terms of its cut.

Nike has authentic jerseys for their NFL teams, but they do not have an authentic model for college teams. If they do, those jerseys would be priced at $295.

Personally, I do not care. The Limited is a much option if you want an authentic jersey IMO.

Basketball

There are two types of model for Nike basketball jerseys, as opposed to the one there was with adidas and their Replica version with screen printed graphics.

adidas replica jerseys were $60.

Your two options of jerseys are-

Replica ($75)-

Screen-printed graphics, just like the adidas Replica model.

Authentic ($120)-

These were actually $135 not that long ago. It appears the price has gone down.

Clearly you can see the difference here. More detailed, the "undercarriage" design on the back is featured and the numbers are stitched, tackle-twill.

Hockey

Just one model here. But the cool thing is that it comes with B1G logo patch like our Hockey jerseys did when we were in the CCHA.

It will run you about $125, just $5 more than the jerseys we had while with adidas.

The countdown to Nike/Jordan rages on.

I also don't get why people want to shit on things other people enjoy, like they're somehow better people.  It makes them look sad and pathetic.

I have a couple UM hockey jerseys.  I wear them to UM football, basketball and hockey games, as well as games at home, because i like to gear up and support my team.

In my mind grown men look silly wearing any jersey unless it's a hockey sweater and that's only allowable at a game with an exemption for at a bar if it's a playoff game.

Same. I have an authentic Shanahan Red Wings jersey which I wear only during games or if I am going out to watch a game at a sports bar.

I do have a Denard 16 Michigan jersey, but I never wear it. I'm not even sure where it is TBH. Also I have a Michigan rugby kit which I wear proudly, but it is more or less a neat looking dri-fit t-shirt.

Hockey jerseys are awesome. Any other sports jersey is just kind of odd to wear IMHO.

what if i wear the same jersey i did as a minor? You know, for saving $, less clothes to buy

i think everyone likes to imagine they were younger and like going to the games cause it reminds them of going as a kid

and i don't see what's wrong with it or how it's your business at all

I wore jerseys as a kid.  I even wore them in college on game day.  Then I graduated, got a job, got a wife and realized how pathetic adult men (and women for that matter) look in jerseys.  Polo shirts are all I wear now.  I still have my #7 totally not Drew Henson nike replica jersey in my closet though, but I haven't worn a size medium in probably 10 years.

I'll stay out of the debate over boys vs men wearing jerseys. Nobody is changing anyone's mind and there's nothing new in this debate.

HOWEVER, a hot girl in ANY sports "jersey" works for me!

No idea why, but something about that look works for me.

Am I alone?

I don't own any. I did as a kid, but haven't gotten into it as an adult. I think they look kind of strange, and I am carrying probably 25 extra lbs these days. Not exactly a sexy look for me. I don't begrudge anyone else their right to wear them though.

I'd rather buy a solid amount of groceries for that kind of money. Those prices are just wasteful, man.

You are trying too hard to make a statement where none is required. Obviously, buying team-branded items are a luxury. You don't need them and they are certainly overpriced.

By your logic, one should only buy the basic necessities in life - food, medicine, basic clothes for warmth. Obviously, many, many people disagree, as there is a whole consumer market for all sorts of non-essential goods and services.

After the battle of Marathon, a messenger was sent to Athens to tell of the great victory. The man ran 26 miles, reached Athens and declared "NIKE!", the Greek word for victory. The messenger promptly died in the city square and that is why a marathon is 26 miles long.
