Nike countdown: jersey pricing guide

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

For those of you who like buying and wearing jerseys to games, I thought I'd make this helpful since there are definite differences between the retail jerseys sold by adidas and Nike.

I've had this buyer's guide set up since last year, but since it's OT season and the countdown clock keeps ticking, I figure I'd share it.

Football

Adidas has 3 types of jerseys: Replica ($65), Premier ($85) and Authentic ($180).

Replica was the cheapest material. Mesh and screen-printed numbers. Premier had sewn-on numbers but still had a pure mesh material, but it also had polyester sleeves.

Authentic was the authentic thing, as evidenced by the price.

Nike has only two types available at the moment for college teams. Replica ($85) and Limited ($135).

Replica ($85)-

Screen-printed numbers, and less detailed.

Limited($135)-

Stitched, tackle twill numbers. A lot more detail to the jersey in terms of its cut.

Nike has authentic jerseys for their NFL teams, but they do not have an authentic model for college teams. If they do, those jerseys would be priced at $295.

Personally, I do not care. The Limited is a much option if you want an authentic jersey IMO.

Basketball

There are two types of model for Nike basketball jerseys, as opposed to the one there was with adidas and their Replica version with screen printed graphics.

adidas replica jerseys were $60.

Your two options of jerseys are-

Replica ($75)-

Screen-printed graphics, just like the adidas Replica model.

Authentic ($120)-

These were actually $135 not that long ago. It appears the price has gone down.

Clearly you can see the difference here. More detailed, the "undercarriage" design on the back is featured and the numbers are stitched, tackle-twill.

Hockey

Just one model here. But the cool thing is that it comes with B1G logo patch like our Hockey jerseys did when we were in the CCHA.

It will run you about $125, just $5 more than the jerseys we had while with adidas.

The countdown to Nike/Jordan rages on.

and I won't spend a nickel on anything connected with Michael Jordan.

However, I'd plunk down the dough for a bottle of 16-year Lagavulin, so to each their own.

By far my favorite single-malt. It's very smoky and peaty, which is not everyone's taste. It's pretty pricey if you buy it locally, so I'd suggest trying some at your favorite watering hole before you pony up the dough for a bottle.

This flavor map might be useful for comparison:

The 18 year Glenlivet is at the opposite end of the map, and if I read the map legend correctly, its distillation doesn't involved the use of peat, which leads to a different flavor character. My hunch is that if you like the Glenlivet, the Lagavulin wouldn't be for you, but the proof is in the tasting.

I also like the 10 year Talisker quite a bit.

I don't even want to know what WD is capable of if he was given the chance to do something in order to take a sneak peak at these designs.  I'm surprised he didn't get busted breaking into Warde Manuel's office yet to be honest.  Maybe he had an Ocean's Eleven level scheme and got away with it.

But I won't be paying near that price. I'll order mine from Ali Express and pay $25/30 instead of $135 for the same exact jersey. I got my 2 Andrew Luck Colts Nike authentic jerseys that Nike sells for $295 (which is insane) for $25 there and there is no difference. I was skeptical before I ordered because it was so cheap, but I will never pay that kind of money for a jersey again when I can get it for 1/10 the price.

You have to read the reviews to see which ones are legit and which aren't. It's the same material, sewing pattern, symbols, stitching, logos, everything is the same...it even comes with the Nike sales tags on them. You're just buying straight from the person that manufactured it instead of Nike.com. I'm a stickler on jersey material and stitching etc., only including Michigan football I've owned over 30 in my lifetime. I used to always drop the $80/130 on Nike.com or at the stadium but now I don't see the point. They look and feel exactly the same and no one I have met can tell any difference. I'm just saying my preference is to pay $25 instead of $295 when it looks and feels the same. If you feel differently you're certainly welcome to purchase the more expensive one from Nike or MDen or wherever.

I used to always wear jerseys, very rarely do now. I always bought the authentic jerseys and my authentic Nike away jersey from 05 is much closer to on the field quality than the adidas versions that I bought around 2010. That being said, once I went to the garage sale a few years back and got a team issued jersey, I don't think I will ever purchase another jersey of any type again.

I'll just wait for them to go on sale. I've never bought a jersey for full price. They always go on sale. Usually can get them for at least 50 percent off.

I have an Addidas Number 2 Jersey my brother got me. I had to get a medium to fit me right and I wear all large clothing (6ft, over 200 lbs). Do all football jerseys run big?

I rarely wear it though. I used to wear it to the 1 or 2 games/ year, but since some of those would be maize outs, even then I'd lose out on chance to wear it.

And I find it weird that so many people here don't find it weird/ creapy that many follow high scool recruiting so close, with paid subscribtions, yet can't imagine a grown up wearing a jersey to a football game. I also find it weird when people say it's a huge waste of money and should be spent on a 401K or groceries? Really?

All jerseys are bigger than "normal" clothing. Most men in this country also decide to wear a jersey that is two times too large. I'm six feet tall and weigh around 190 pounds. I also wear medium clothing, jerseys included. I'd like to get small jerseys, but have never seen them when looking for one. I just hate oversized clothing. Why people prefer to wear clothing that doesn't fir their bodies is beyond my comprehension.
