Nike countdown: jersey pricing guide

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

For those of you who like buying and wearing jerseys to games, I thought I'd make this helpful since there are definite differences between the retail jerseys sold by adidas and Nike.

I've had this buyer's guide set up since last year, but since it's OT season and the countdown clock keeps ticking, I figure I'd share it.

Football

Adidas has 3 types of jerseys: Replica ($65), Premier ($85) and Authentic ($180).

Replica was the cheapest material. Mesh and screen-printed numbers. Premier had sewn-on numbers but still had a pure mesh material, but it also had polyester sleeves.

Authentic was the authentic thing, as evidenced by the price.

Nike has only two types available at the moment for college teams. Replica ($85) and Limited ($135).

Replica ($85)-

Screen-printed numbers, and less detailed.

Limited($135)-

Stitched, tackle twill numbers. A lot more detail to the jersey in terms of its cut.

Nike has authentic jerseys for their NFL teams, but they do not have an authentic model for college teams. If they do, those jerseys would be priced at $295.

Personally, I do not care. The Limited is a much option if you want an authentic jersey IMO.

Basketball

There are two types of model for Nike basketball jerseys, as opposed to the one there was with adidas and their Replica version with screen printed graphics.

adidas replica jerseys were $60.

Your two options of jerseys are-

Replica ($75)-

Screen-printed graphics, just like the adidas Replica model.

Authentic ($120)-

These were actually $135 not that long ago. It appears the price has gone down.

Clearly you can see the difference here. More detailed, the "undercarriage" design on the back is featured and the numbers are stitched, tackle-twill.

Hockey

Just one model here. But the cool thing is that it comes with B1G logo patch like our Hockey jerseys did when we were in the CCHA.

It will run you about $125, just $5 more than the jerseys we had while with adidas.

The countdown to Nike/Jordan rages on.

I do have one question - does a countdown rage on really? I mean, is time violent like that? I think we could have an interesting debate, seeing as it is the OT season.

Alternatively, we could have a nice chat about the books we've either bought or would like to see become available at Dawn Treader. I don't think we've had that thread in a while. Possibly ever. Not really sure.

the Nike contract, and sticking it out with Addidas at the last minute. Just to see the Epic meltdown by Wolverine Devotee and his countless handles on here would be glorious.

I probably won't buy a jersey . . . but I can't wait for the Michigan T-shirts and polos with the Nike swoosh on them.

Also, anyone disparaging grown men wearing a jersey for any reason, keep in mind that:

a)  You should stop being a dick.  People like things you don't and that is cool.  The fact that you rip them for it DOES, however, make you a class A douche canoe.

b) Harbaugh wears jerseys at satellite camps.

PS.  Does the Michigan Hockey contract with Reebok end in August also?  I WOULD buy a couple Nike hockey jerseys because hockey jerseys are badass.

A: I agree you shouldn't be a dick about it.  But that is a generally prinicple of life, don't be an asshole.

B: Yes Harbaugh wears jerseys to sports camps.  He does not wear them to the bar on gameday.  That is a big difference.

a) we agree

b) the commenters above never made that distinction.  You are, which is cool, but they didn't.  In fact, most of them were saying grown men shouldn't wear jerseys period.  I get it, that's their opinion, but by acting like that, they're taking shots at Harbaugh too.

And I wear my jerseys around and I give zero fucks what people think of me because I don 't do things for anyone's else's approval but mine and my families.

"I don 't do things for anyone's else's approval but mine and my families"

That is the secret to life.

I prefer to use a concentric ring analogy.  The inner most ring is me, my wife, and kids.  The next ring is siblings, parents, in-laws.  The next ring is coworkers, bosses, extended family, etc.  The very outer ring is strangers, especially anonymous ones on the internet.

Not to start an argument but Harbaugh also tucks his sweatshirt into his khakis so I'm not sure he is the model of perfect fashion sense.

*If you're reading this coach I still love ya!

I find it hillarious how many MgoBloggers hate adults wearing jerseys but preface it by saying that hockey jerseys are the exception.

C'mon guys.  Do you think Brian is going to ban you without your brown-nosing?

i don't have a problem with your apparel threads. If it doesn't interest me then I won't read it. I do have a problem with that picture though. Who takes a picture at an angle like that and then posts it? Come on man! No one likes looking at a crooked picture.

The jerseys are way too pricey, but I am interested to see some of the new t-shirts. Will probably have to buy one the day of the release. Hopefully the return to Nike will help lift the curse that has been on the athletic department since Bo died.

I except football to remain more or less the same, just higher quality. I'm excited to see basketball, I really like most of the other jumpman bball uniforms. They are modern but still crisp and classic... exactly what is right for Michigan.

Since many of you have issues with people wearing jerseys...

What's the consensus on wearing the basketball team shorts? I still wear mine all the time. I wouldnt think its weird to wear them to a home football game in the summer.... or am i violating mgoblog fashion?

Nothing is more juvenile than grown men commenting on other people's dress preferences. I actually appreciate these posts seeing as how they directly pertain to the organizations and teams I support. Some of you mgobloggers need to realize this is a community forum and you need not participate, read, or comment on every single topic posted

I think people worrying so much about what other people wear is fucking weird. If you don't like adults wearing jerseys, then don't wear one. If you like wearing jerseys, then have at it! I really don't wear them anymore, but I still have a few. As others have stated, I just can't drop that kind of money on something I know I'll almost never wear. Either way, I'm anxious to see what Nike will have dialed up for this fall.

The rule of thumb is if you're older than the oldest player playing that particular sport, you can't wear a jersey. Therefore, if you're over 23-24? you shouldn't be wearing a college jersey. Hockey is the exception. Be an adult.
