NFL Netowrk's Ben Fennell gushing about Michigan's 2016 team

Submitted by Maizen on

I can watch #Michigan run game all day.. OL nasty in trenches. TEs blocking asses off (88,84,89). De'Veon Smith is tough/one cut downhill RB

Michigan might only see Henry and Glasglow drafted.. But they are bringing back almost all core players + incredible recruiting class..

If Harbaugh gets the QB position ready and stable.. This team is going to be good. Very good. #Michigan

Maurice Hurst Jr & Chris Wormley... Yea good luck blocking these fellas next year. Sprinkle in some Rashan Gary... This DL group is a terror

Versatile group.. Everyone is from the same mold. They're aren't any 'fat guys'. Hurst and Wormley can really play up and down the line

This ^^^. I'd guess that Harbaugh wants to be classified as a great college coach. In the modern era Michigan has topped out with "very good" (which, again, would have made most of us plenty happy between '08 and '14).

With the way the schedule is, you either win 10-11 games, or you beat MSU and OSU and win like 12-13 games.  You can't do both unless you think we're beating MSU and OSU and also somehow losing to Penn State and someone else.

Personally, I think the goal should be make the CFP every year.  Because to do that, you're going to have to beat both MSU and OSU and win a Big Ten Championship.

ever made, and that scene is a classic.

incidentally, anyone here think that in that picture arnold had enough juice and HGH coursing through his veins to turn a herd of giraffe into mastadons?

EDIT: why did this posted about 10 down from the conan video?  thanks drupal.

He didn't recruit Peppers, or Hurst, or Wormley, or Lewis, or Butt, or etc....The guys he currently coaches seem to be pretty damn good. No college team is ever perfect. Let's enjoy this before we get to far ahead of ourselves.

Yes, there were talented players on the roster when Harbaugh arrived, but that talent wasn't going anywhere. The 49ers also had some talented players when Harbaugh was hired. He immediately took the 6-10 49ers to 13-3 and then did the same thing at Michigan. That's how important coaching is. That's how important Harbaugh is. He, and the coaches he chooses to work with, get the most out of these guys.

And not just the line.  The bowl was the first time the team had been mostly healthy in months and they crushed the SEC East Champion.

Also, I still blame most of the OSU game on Durkin daydreaming of crabcakes instead of coming up with a better plan to contain their ground game.  That game didn't get away from us until the 2nd half.

Mattison > Durkin.  Also, Brown > Durkin.

I seem to recall we played a Florida team with several key players that were suspended. The starting QB, both starting cornerbacks, a starting right tackle, backup linebacker and the backup running back were all suspended. Yes it was nice that we whiped the floor with them, but the Citrus Bowl Florida team wasn't exactly at full strenght.

The most important of those suspensions could be considered as the QB, and he was lost half way through the season.  Still, that team won the SEC East and held Alabama in check.  Got thoroughly beat, yes, but didn't get run over like MSU did - or like they did against UM.

I do believe they quit in the second half, but only because it was clear they were getting stomped and could do nothing about it.  They're coach even admitted they got butt-raped - out coached and out played.

UF had two of the top five or so CBs in the country. They played and were praised constantly by the announcers until Chesson beat them worse than Indiana. Their QB was suspended for most of the conference season. They lost a starting OL for the Citrus Bowl and a couple of backups. We lost a lot more to injury including Jabril,

And I lifted this from Wiki, so who knows if it's accurate...

Statistics[2] Michigan Florida
First Downs 28 14
Plays–yards 77–503 52–273
Rushes–yards 46–225 26–118
Passing yards 278 155
Passing: Comp–Att–Int 20–31–0 10–25–2
Time of Possession 38:38 21:22

But damn.  If they didn't show up, it was right from the beginning not just at the half.

It didn't matter if UF showed up in that game..Harbaugh was going to out prepare pretty much any coach in the country and that showed up from the opening kick off to the very end.

Also, that was year 1, the team was taking baby steps through the season with a huge step in that bowl game bec. of health and prep. This year with most of that team back it is almost guaranteed to be another major step forward.
