New 2022 Running Back Offer

Submitted by jbibiza on December 26th, 2021 at 11:39 AM

Looks like we still want a power back in this class after missing out on the ASU transfer.
New offer Andrew Paul from Texas fits the bill. Plays on a good team in Dallas - but perhaps not the highest level of competition (??). 247 lists him as 5'11"  220.  His senior stats are 2,824 yards at almost 10 per carry with 44 TDs .
His three top schools are UM, MSU and Colorado.

Haven't seen enough of Tavierre yet.

For me and the Hassan comp: He already has the Hassan leap! Paul looks to have more top-end speed and he has some excellent "phone booth" wiggle to him...he looks a bit more athletic. Today he does not have Hassan's power but as a 5'11" 220 pound 17/18 year old he is already a load. My question is, "Why is this young man still available???". Sign him up!

Weighed my 6'0" self this morning after a full day of holiday eating and I'm 190lbs. This kid is 220lbs which means I can continue eating like this for another week or so. #Winning

A) Higdon was a 4 star, not that it matters.

B) I wasn't commenting at all on his ranking. I was responding to the guy above who said "we offered and jumped immediately into his top 3." That's not a huge deal when none of the teams previously in his top 3 were top schools.  It's not like his top 3 was Oklahoma, Texas and USC. Who did we bump, Cal?

Of course we jumped immediately into his top 3. That's not a reason not to be excited about the recruit, I'm just saying that beating out those other schools isn't what should get us excited either.

MSU and Auburn are both two programs that have a track record of finding and developing talent at running back. That's not insignificant that he is holding offers from both. Mizzou and TCU are also programs that have done well with players that have similar prospect profiles.

At this stage in the cycle, if a power back is what you are looking for, a guy with his recruiting profile (which is what you are referring to) seems like a pretty compelling guy to pursue late in the game.

WolvinLA2,

Moran!

...we're looking for a back to fill a specific role, not be Donovan Edwards.

We have our explosive backs Edwards (also an amazing slot reciever) and Corum on the team...Harbaugh wants a power back that can fall forward for 2 yards on 4th and 1 to replace that part of what we lose with HH gone after the year.

We are recruiting for a role, not looking for another all purpose back this late in the cycle.

Andrew Paul grew up trying to emulate Adrian Peterson. The budding running back did a great impression of the seven-time Pro Bowler and future Hall-of-Famer while helping lead Dallas (Texas) Parish Episcopal School to a TAPPS Division-1 Championship. In the Panthers' final three playoff games this year, Paul put up video game numbers, averaging 368.3 rushing yards and 5.3 touchdowns.

In the playoffs, he rushed for 1100 yards and 16 TDs over three games.

I didn’t feel like a running back was needed. Then I watched the film, and now I want him. The good stuff starts in the later parts of the film imo (once they start actually tackling him). Now I’m going to be bummed if we don’t get him.

I'm a little surprised that UM has the numbers to take another back here (was feeling skeptical of having numbers to even take the transfer). Got to think they'll be a lot of departure activity after the... Alabama game (smiles sheepishly).

I love how this staff always has a backup plan when recruiting. Curious to see who they move on to if Kevonte Henry decides to go elsewhere.

Watched his highlights today.  Not bad vision.  Was timed as a 11.3 100 meter guy.  That seems about right watching his speed on tape.  They ran a ton of counter action with him.  Didn’t break a lot of tackles but still runs hard.

Presumably the coaches, and that’s about it.

There’s going to be a decent amount of attrition to even fit all the guys that have signed their LOIs already, and once you get beyond the first 10-12 obvious attrition due to eligibility/NFL, it requires a lot of speculation about transfers that makes people uncomfortable, especially as it seems the coaches expect 15-20 such transfers based on how they’re recruiting.  That said, given our current WR room and signings, it seems likely they’d be looking at Bell more as a RB than WR.
