National Championship Game Open Thread
Well, it'll probably be a short thread, since everyone has already said they're not watching tonight. But for those that are, it's the end of college football on the field for awhile. Gameday on. Pregame in about half an hour. It'll keep us busy till the Two and a Half Men Open thread starts later tonight.

No, what's embarrassing is the offenses in this game. I LOVE hard nosed defense, and I can't wait for Mattison to get his set up, but that doesn't mean it's always fun to watch. I'd prefer to watch UofM's bend but don't break defense, which is at least entertaining--there is the POSSIBILITY of a touchdown before Kovacs pulls you out of thin air on the one. Just sayin' . . .

I don't necessarily mind a low-scoring game, but I do hope someone scores a TD, finally.
January 9th, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
more than great defense. Granted both teams have NFL athletes on defense, but both teams have shitty QBs.

Are you LSU or Bama's SID or something?
January 9th, 2012 at 9:56 PM ^
My thinking is, the only team I want to see play defense is Michigan.
Everyone else can go to hell. I want to be entertained for a NC game, not feel like I'm watching a debate on CSPAN.
Death to the BCS, so many people are going to be screaming for a playoff if lsu winds up winning this like 12-9.
January 9th, 2012 at 9:58 PM ^
What is your obsession with hyping this game? Related to someone on the BCS committee? From SEC country? Work for ESPN? Your single-mindedness on the subject is tiring. Are you even bothering to watch the game or just telling people how wrong they are about it being a great game?

desire to offend. . .

And both these teams have great defenses. They have great team speed and play fundamentally sound. But the offense are average at best. Their route combinations are extremely simple and easy to cover. Their RBs are missing open run lanes that could go for 5 yards instead of 1.
I'm not saying there should be a bunch of TDs in this game. The defenses are too good for that. But the offenses should be far more efficient in this game. They should have been in the last game. They are missing opportunities and have very simple offenses because they rely so much on their defenses and are scared to make mistakes against the other teams defense and it's making the offenses plain and ineffective when they could and should be playing better.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:33 PM ^
GREAT point. And that's the issue. I don't think anyone would be dissapointed with a 14-7 or 21-14 game if the offenses were reasonably capable of moving the chains. This is just absurd.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:19 PM ^
I started the post...and not to make fun of it.

But what's mystifying is the need you feel to post after every slight to the game to say how awesome it is. And it's been the majority of your posts for a month. If you have no rooting interest, you're caring about it way too much. Maybe boards aren't that much fun for you and you're wasting your time.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:31 PM ^
they are missed. The D's are amazing, but the O's are playing like crap.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:35 PM ^
And it's not necessarily due to the defenses, as that last gaffe by Jefferson shows.
January 9th, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
I know this is a chicken-and-egg question, but the more I watch these offenses the more I wonder just how good SEC defenses are. These QBs can do absolutely nothing.
January 9th, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
LSU is just playing the same strategy we played in the Sugar Bowl, minus the turnovers in their favor.
January 9th, 2012 at 9:57 PM ^
..lack of skilled offensive players? WV got 21 and Oregon got 27 against LSU this year..Bama has 15 in a game and a half.
January 9th, 2012 at 9:58 PM ^
How did I know that there was gonna be a commerical about the SEC winning 6 NCs.
"You're watching six". The funny thing is, they techinically get a loss to their perfect NC game record regardless who wins.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:01 PM ^
That commercial was pure arrogance.
January 9th, 2012 at 9:59 PM ^
I still think Brandon is a greedy fool for scheduling Bama to start off the season. With the medical hardships and oversigning, they will be loaded again.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:01 PM ^
But what if we beat them?
January 9th, 2012 at 10:32 PM ^
won't
January 9th, 2012 at 10:02 PM ^
you wanna be the best you gotta beat the best

to place some big bets on your assertion. LSU is toast.

is hilariously classless. Compare B1G commercials (we mold excellent young people and o by the way we're pretty dang good at sports too) to that SEC commercial (we've won 6 MNCs in a row; bow to us, peons!) and you'll see the radical difference in cultures.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:37 PM ^
Honestly, most of the schools in the SEC don't have create academic resumes - I've watched those school-made commercials enough this year to realize "I came from a small part of Alabama and look at me in school" is the one consistent narrative that many of these schools have to fall back on.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:37 PM ^
I must have missed that commercial when I fell asleep . . .
January 9th, 2012 at 10:01 PM ^
Nich Saban is balls deep inside Herbstreit? I swear Kirk wants to have sex with this guy.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:03 PM ^
The SEC totally mushroom stamped the entire CFB nation with that halftime commercial
January 9th, 2012 at 10:04 PM ^
Who's the third halftime guy with Fowler and Kelly? Recognize the face, just can't place a name to it.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:08 PM ^
Gene Chizik, Auburn's coach.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:08 PM ^
lets see he faced Kelly on the game last year, hmm Gene something......

The production value looks like an online learning center, however.

people will call him the former coach of the Auburn Tigers.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:39 PM ^
Unless he buys, er, recruits a superstar quarterback.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:06 PM ^
is more entertaining thant the game.

Gene Chizik

Again, these defenses are really good. And by that I mean great. Great enough for them to be legit ranked #1 and #2 (though I think Ok St. should have played LSU). But the offenses are missing a lot of opportunities and running lanes to make plays. They are both leaving a lot of yards on the field.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:08 PM ^
field goals are not compelling TV unless the game is on the line. That goes for both the game and that lame ass halftime show.
January 9th, 2012 at 10:09 PM ^
If he made it he should win the Alabama starting kicking job
January 9th, 2012 at 10:10 PM ^
Other than the obvious answer that they are just plain awesome can somebody explain why when two SEC teams run God-Awful offensive plays and cant score worthe a shit its claimed that it's just because of the amazing defenses but when WE struggle offensively it's because our offense sucks?
January 9th, 2012 at 10:22 PM ^
