MSU Weekend: Recruit reactions?

Submitted by Gentleman Squirrels on

Looking at a different part of the game, this weekend was a huge recruiting weekend for us. Anyone hear anything about recruit reactions?

I found these 2 articles on Scout:

Isaac Nauta

David Long

Both of them have extremely positive reactions from the weekend, with Long saying he liked Michigan more than Notre Dame.

I have a 247 subscription, so I won't delve too much into what they said. However, I will say that, with regard to Nauta, the team's response to losing struck him in a very positive way.

One of the things I tried to take solace in after the game was that this was probably a pretty good experience for a recruit. You get to see the energy and excitement of the crowd for 59:50 of a game, then get to see the coaches and team handle adversity. Even though Ann Arbor probably want that fun Saturday night, they still get to see how much football means to the school and how intense the rivalry is. Hopefully, they got to see some classless behavior by Sparty and their fans too.

David Long and I definitely have something in common.  I too like Michigan much more than Notre Dame.

(I hope the recruits attending understand that MSU won an a fluke play - mostly fair and square, IMO, but on a fluke play.  And I suspect they could see that Michigan's star is rising.  So positive reactions won't surprise me.)

Considering our small drop in rankings in coaches and AP poll, and the few ESPN videos I've seen/ articles I've read (been trying to avoid any videos with the play), it seems everyone outside of East Lansing/RCMB realizes that it was a lucky, one in a thousand, miracle play.

Yeah no kidding. Good luck landing a kid with the ass whooping we took from them last year. This is a whole different game and era. I don't like the threats to O'Neil and I actually do think it could have an impact. That's one of those things they won't see from other programs. It might be a one in 5 or 10 or 20 yr event but fact is it happened and they're aware of it. Plenty of dumb shit happens at FSU, Bama, ND, whatever but recruiting is a compare and contrast game and there's no way a kid doesn't consider that if it's the only place he sees it.

Like it a little more. I read a couple of articles earlier from the visiting recruits. They loved it! Loved the Coach, Loved the Stadium and the atmosphere, Love the Academics and the high energy around the program.

One of them said Michigan is definately his favorite. Felt very comfortable at Michigan.

I assume most had a pretty good time. The atmosphere was electric and on par with Happy Valley or the Horseshoe. They got to see the differences in class between the two teams at the end of the game.

Heaven forbid it gets brought up that fans threatening a player after a game may affect their opinion of the fan base. I realize that it is a very few of the fans who made these stupid comments.

Gonna be hard to land any recruits in the immdiate future with people threatening a player over a mishap. It will take a few weeks for things to calm down.

It's a Michigan problem when we're the team it happened to and we're the ones getting all the negative press over it. Keep in mind recruits these days haven't been alive long enough to see how awesome our fanbase is when our team as good...on account of not having a good team in that long

There could be 1000 people posting death threats and it would still represent .1 % of the Michigan fanbase. The best way is to ignore the losers. Never turn a 1 day story into a two day story.

I agree. I don't think 1000 people are posting death threats. I do think a much greater percentage is hating (to a lesser extent than threats) on him. Vocal minorities can ruin perceptions of fanbases if they're given a voice/stage. The media is giving all these losers way too much attention and our AD drew more attention to it
