He mentions the issue in the OP. They got rings for winning the Holiday Bowl, which is like getting a participation trophy for a game no one cares about. And instead of putting the score from the Holiday Bowl on their rings, they put the score from the UM vs MSU game on their rings.
Honestly, MSU should forget the farce of getting a bowl ring and just get rings if they beat Michigan.

When they’re older they’ll look at the ring and say “wow that season was a raging success, we won a 4th tier bowl game AND a beat Michigan”. If we beat them and don’t make the B1G championship we still see it as a failure, they obviously see it much differently and I’m perfectly fine with that.
Why didn't they have 36-69-5 on their rings. The all time record vs Michigan. I can't imagine Michigan putting anything pertaining to MSU on anything. That is because we are not obsessed with them. They are not significant enough to ever have them cross our minds without prompting.
Be fair, we all know staee aren't good at that math thing. So putting big numbers on a ring would only confuse them further when they are out working to deliver my pizza to my house - they might confuse it with the address.
Perhaps we should start focusing more on them. We’re losing too much to them lately, after all.

I know people have walked away from the "little brother" label due to recent on-field performance, but if there were a hint that it isn't about a game but about their entire state of mind regarding the University Of Michigan, it is this act right here. The rings should celebrate a minor bowl victory, but instead make a dig at us - inferiority complex? Check.

We need to beat MSU in a very bad way this season. If JH can't get this team up for this game and UM loses yet again with better talent then I will consider Mork a better coach.
Kind of flies in the face of their claims that 1) Harbaugh is a terrible coach and beating Michigan isn't much of an accomplishment and 2) that it "isn't a rivalry anymore"

Holiday Bowl rings alone is sad enough. Who does that that's not a group of 5 team? I don't even think some of them do it.
Dantonio and Co. hate Michigan more than they love themselves. Doing this does seem a little tacky, but it’s been working for them and they’ve beaten us 8 of the last 10 years so what can we really say or do about it?
