30 straight runs. Dude is a king🤴🏿

The more offensive linemen on the field, the better!
November 11th, 2023 at 4:19 PM ^
32...
There was one pass thrown to Barner that turned into a DPI (which doesn't show in the passing stats), so there's that. But otherwise...

Second called pass play (a roll out) where JJ scambled for a 1st down.

Double

It looked like we had every offensive lineman we have on the field at times

JJ's Heisman campaign is done. Poor kid.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:25 PM ^
I can 100% guarantee you JJ doesn’t care. The team, the team, the team.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:31 PM ^
Fuck you, fuck that, who fucking cares. Win the game through adversity and move on!!! Get out of here you fucking troll.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:27 PM ^
Kinda harsh... It's a fair point made without complaining about the team or the play calls. On a personal level for JJ, sure - he doesn't care in the big scheme. But we were all pulling for it, and now it's essentially off the table. This game - top 10 opponent on the road, was his 'Heisman Moment', and it didn't happen because the Iowa rock fight game plan took the ball out of his hands.
The game plan was largely forced by PSU playing all out to stop the pass, mostly by abusing Barnhart along the way. Running 32 second half run plays in a row does not make a 'Heisman Moment'. So OP's lament is valid.

jeez, dude.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:31 PM ^
Corum's might have been resurrected. 145 yds and 2 TDs vs. the 2nd best rush D in the country?
November 11th, 2023 at 3:46 PM ^
Guess he'll have to come back next year.
November 11th, 2023 at 8:01 PM ^
Heismans don’t matter. What matters is beating Maryland next week and continuing to stack wins. If that happens the rest of the season everybody will be very happy when all is said and done.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:39 PM ^
Freely admit I was frustrated, but it worked.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:05 PM ^
I wasn’t a huge fan of completely abandoning the passing game. But I also came in with a “Just win the game” mindset with the 11th hour suspension of Jim. At the end of the day, we went on the road and beat a top 10 team. Cant complain too much there, but main criticisms seem to be surrounded by the fact that he’s very conservative.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:08 PM ^
UM coaches said to each other, up 17-9, if they want us to pass they are going to have to make us.
Penn state never took them up on the offer.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:44 PM ^
I was one of them. He drove me crazy but I love him!!
November 11th, 2023 at 3:48 PM ^
The game thread is generally replete with poor, emotionally reactive takes. Today was no exception. For all of the complaining, Michigan beat a top 10 team on the road, in its first big test of the season, without throwing a single pass in the 2nd half!
I think Moore saw early on that their pass rush was going to be a huge issue. And conversely, we had success running out of the "dump truck" package, as Klatt called it. So why not condense the game and force Penn State to stop the run? I thought overall, Moore called a good game and even bigger than that, he led us to a huge win in a ridiculous situation.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
This, exactly. It was very clear early that Barnhart wasn't holding up, and the DTs were also getting through. Adjusting to the run attack was fantastic! But in the 2nd half, 20-some runs in, I was wondering why they were all A & B gap runs. Nothing designed to get the ball outside quickly, except for a bounce. Corum made the bounce of the game - which is not surprising.
The coaches knew that PSU's offense wasn't scoring more than 17, and played accordingly. It sucks ass to watch in the moment, but it worked out. I mean, we all know the only team that can consistently out-Iowa Iowa, is Michigan.
Nice try, Frames, you fucking idiot.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:50 PM ^
Guilty as charged
November 11th, 2023 at 3:52 PM ^
I think it’s okay to question some coaching decisions while still supporting the team and coaches.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
I just don't like not keeping the defense honest. At least a screen or two.
But, it worked so I'm fine with it...now.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:28 PM ^
Yeah and it got to the point where he ran it SO MUCH, that they were expecting play-action. Didn’t diversify the play-calling enough to keep them honest, and didn’t diversify it enough to punish them for overplaying tendency.
November 11th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
I'll take the heat for continuing to be critical in this thread:
That was not a good offensive game plan. Allowing it to remain a one-score game like that, and effectively sidelining JJ was bad. PSU's offensive woes bailed us out, but I don't want to see anything like that again.
Moore's passion was great, however that doesn't make his play calling infallible.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:11 PM ^
You and Penn State were both hoping we would pass. We told PSU it was their job to make us pass as we were up 17-9 and they were dead on offense.
PSU never made us pass and we got the W for their failure. Now whatever other way the game couldve gone it could never result in more than a win. Whether or not it entertained you is besides the point.
November 12th, 2023 at 10:56 AM ^
As I posted elsewhere...good to go heavy sets and very run heavy. But too extreme. Five pass plays (roll outs, quick slants, other stuff that nullified pass rush...) would have been much better.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:15 PM ^
When you throw a pass, 3 things could happen and two of them are bad. And that’s if you don’t get sacked and or fumble in the process before you throw it.
Just win. Style points don’t matter much, they are a luxury we can’t always afford
November 11th, 2023 at 4:28 PM ^
At least give credit to Bo for the comment.
November 11th, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
Pretty sure it was woody hayes that said that

Thought it was Lombardi.
November 11th, 2023 at 4:24 PM ^
All the finger wagging, not football understanding, whiners…who for weeks have been wingeing about the lack of a run game, get a dominant run game, against the nation’s best run D, and shockingly…just shockingly…lose their fucking minds and start whining about not passing more.
You people need a psychiatrist, and lots and lots of drugs.
November 11th, 2023 at 5:37 PM ^
I didn’t necessarily love the super conservative play calling in the second half, but I understood it and they won which is all that matters
In any event, That postgame interview by Moore was amazing!
