Moderator Action Sticky 2014

New season means new sticky, since these get cumbrously long.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Before you look for your thread:
1. Was it offensive/political/off topic?
2. Did it link to Drew Sharp, something Mike Valenti said, or Ace Williams?
3. Is there another thread in the last few days on the board that addresses the same topic?

Hall of Stickies Past:
The first, the second, the third.

Hail & Unite teaser trailer.....

...has been killed with fire. Actually, let's try to minimize the coverage of this particular topic as the popular stance is now well-known. At most, major updates only, please, and even then, consider the consequences of the thread.

the reason for the no sharp rule us he practices annoyance journalism. Drew just writes stuff to make people say omigod did you see what this asshole said?!? Nobody should reward him or the freep for that by playing his game. Just ignore Sharp.

This post in the KJ Costello thread:

I can't speak for others, but

I can't speak for others, but IMO you should be able to share whatever you want (short of copying and pasting an entire article). The notion that you should have to keep information secret because it's behind a pay wall is odd to me. You now know the information, there's nothing immoral about sharing it.

Except that notion is the notion that the entire business model of many sites depends on. As I said there, as an example, there's a guy who runs a business selling betting picks and strategies on MMA events. So you can post all his proprietary information, as long as you don't copy full paragraphs?

I'm sure the information copied over here makes its way to twitter, one way or another, but this site should not be in the business of stealing information when it is still proprietary to another site. I think it's really low morally.

This was a weird situation all around b/c the OP to the post followed general rules; the debate sprung from a comment from a third party.

At this point, the mods are pretty good about handling clearly blatant C&P threads, and Brian/Ace/etc. all seem to follow a consistent code.  What people post here doesn't reflect on the site's admins, and honestly I'm not sure what else can be done.

OT: Schilling Cyberbullies: Sean MacDonald and Adam Nagel

The main problem is that this was framed as a thread for essentially hurling severe criticism (I'll put it politely) and two people who already have created a shitstorm that will ripple through the remainder of their lives probably, all because they decided to be vile and misogynistic in a very public forum.

That aside, I totally agree that these two deserve all the grief they are getting and will continue to get, but I don't know what we could do or say that hasn't been done or said to them as it is (also, this formation was shared in the thread yesterday), for as someone else in the thread put it - "the rage machine acted appropriately this time".

If the criteria is applied that only threads where  "but I don't know what we could do or say that hasn't been done or said to them as it is" stand then about 90% of the board posts go away.  I thought the purpose of the sideboard was to have a discussion on issues we share a common interest in not necessarily break new ground on a topic.

There was no "cyberbullying" going on other than Don posting a link to their pictures and how exactly does that qualify as bullying?  To me this thread was nothing more than a bunch of guys in a bar who watched an asshole make unproved comment after comment to some guy about his wife get punched in the mouth and we're all, for the most part, agreeing he got exactly what he deserved..

Why is that not allowed?

I totally agree, first and foremost, that the MGoBoard is precisely that - to share insight on issues in which the community has a common interest. That being said, the discussions are individual and applying the same criteria to all of them would yield some odd conclusions now and again.

As for this, asking the board to heap further criticism on the heavily criticized (and rightly so in the case of these guys) tends to be a red flag historically (people have started such threads regarding players and those never, ever end well ultimately), but there was no issue with sharing the article regarding what has befallen these two since yesterday.

If folks would like, I can put this back with some minor alterations.

We certainly can't overlook the image we created with $500,000 damage to a Hotel. I know it had nothing to do with M, but the effect is the same since those were students of M gathering for the digusting action. Those students should be expelled. Burning couches in the streets happens all the time in Detroit, and that's where this bunch belongs.

He said that it was the same guy, Brunswick Blue or whatever his name was.  Also made a comment about why continue to post with -700 points.  99.9% sure it's the same guy.

Never mind

This was a post about Harbaugh and Minick responding to an accident scene and helping out victims, a story which of course appeared on the blog yesterday.

...that this one:

OT - 5 Colleges with the Highest STD rates

...will probably not go in spectacular directions, especially with a clickbait-ish sort of article.

Funchess / Freep

Providing no context or link and asking the rest of the board to do the legwork typically is not a good setup for a thread. Combine that with the fact that the supposed error came from the Freep, and the thread probably will be beyond help very soon (it sort of is already anyway).

OT: Zayn Malik Transferring

I do have my doubts about a One Direction thread - or rather, a thread announcing changes which would send them in another direction - would go very far on the blog. If there is more interest than I am giving the blog credit for, I can always put it back. I somehow doubt such a request will come, of course.

The best idea is to leave a comment here. I realize that might be difficult for app users, but making a thread is probably going to make things worse.

The OP was right about a certain poster crossing the line in another thread, though.

Peppers goes #1 overall, Malzone first QB drafted

It was brought to my attention that a couple things were shared in here that maybe shouldn't have been - they (the department) are trying to have as little out there regarding the teams apparently, so I was asked to remove this thread by others.
