MOAR Kovacs Walk-on fluff (ESPN.com Article)
Despite the urgings of Brian and the entire Mgoblog community, reporters still feel the need to bring up the fact that Kovacs was a walk-on. Still glad to see this kid get recognized for all his hard work however.

He may not have top end speed for a guy playing safety but he does bring 110% every game. Kovacs plays as if he has something to prove every down and he makes plays and tackles when we need them. It is nice to finally see him getting some attention this year by the media.

I agree, I didn't expect his playmaking skills catch up to his instincts, but Kovacs is a gamer, walk-on or not.

eh. Hunwick was a walk on too. Makes for a good story.

My son loves Kovacs (so does Dad) and wants a #32 jersey very badly. I can't find one off the shelf anywhere - I know I can have one custom done for #32 as long as it does not have Kovac's name on the back - but has anyone seen a #32 available ready-made anywhere?

I have, but it will have the name "THOMAS" on the back . . . All aboard! The A-Train runs again!

and a steal for $49 - good find!
MDen has specific language on their site that it's against NCAA regs to have a jersey made with the name & number of any current rostered players. Number only.
GO BLUE!

Funny-At no point in the article did Kovacs mention how nice a stipend would be.

All Aboard, indeed. My first favorite player

Best bet is to probably find one of the sites that let you customize a Jersey and do it that way.

Nike, blue, no name on back. My mom found it at a garage sale last year. I'm not usually a 'jersey' guy but I wore it during the bowl game against MSU with poor results. Resisted wearing it this year but put it on mid way through the 3rd quarter last week and we all know what happened. Having Kovacs come on strong is making it an easier choice to wear it.

Honestly, I see the NFL in his future. Like others have said, he doesn't have great speed, but he brings his all every single down and just keeps getting better.
September 16th, 2011 at 7:26 AM ^
Maybe so, but not at safety. I could see him being one of those special teams beasts like Bates or Tasker from years past.
September 16th, 2011 at 7:50 AM ^
I don't see him in the NFL. His size to speed ratio just has no place in that league.

Here is a #32 jersey on eBay with no name on the back. Starting bid is $9.99 w/ free shipping. Will probably have few bidders since the size is a youth large.

I love the line about how GERG always got Kovacs and Matt Cavanaugh confused, usually just referring to both of them as Reilly.
Always on top of shit, that GERG.

GERG always had his hand on it. Never his mind.

Kovacs is a great kid.
And Chantel Jennings did a really nice job with this story. Good read!
