His passing yardage as a freshmam at Houston would put him at #2 behind Navarre on Michigan's all time single season passing yardage list. Granted it was in a less competitive conference, but there's no question this kid can play, and he'll be a 4th year guy by the time he's starting for us next year.

Why are we so dismissive of Morris?  We seem to all agree on a few things that make me question why we seem to be so dismissive of Morris.  We all seem to agree that 1) Hoke's staff was not good at developing talent, 2) Morris has obvious arm talent, and 3) Harbaugh is good at developing QBs.  Isn't that enough to believe that Morris still has the chance to be really good in the next two years?

Let's not anoint anyone yet until we see what happens this season.  I also believe Morris might still be what everyone expected when he commited here, especially given the questionable coaching he's been subjected to and difficult situations he's been thrown into.  From what he's said at least, he seems to be up to the challenge from a mental standpoint.

fans always want the new unknown player because their potential is unlimited in thier eyes. when you have never seen them really play you think they are great,  until something bad happens then your looking for the next superstar.  ill let the coaches decide.

In the case of Shane Morris vs Jake Rudock, I believe it's the known that worries us more than the unknown that excites us.

I would like for Morris to turn out to be what fans want him to be, but I just don't see it. His HS film and every bit of game action he's shown at Michigan have left a lot to be desired. All he's shown is that he can throw the ball over a mountain, and that's he deceptively quick with his feet for a white guy/pro style QB. There haven't been any flashes of "OMG DID YOU SEE THAT?!" in anything I've seen out of him from games, practice, or whatever. There have, however, been a lot of brain fart moments.

If Morris DOES come along though, he gives us our best shot of beating MSU this year, since the ONLY teams that have success against MSU's defense are the ones that throw deep behind their secondary. Oregon, OSU, and Baylor ALL did this, and with the way MSU stacks the box and leaves their corners on an island, it really is the only way you can beat them. I'm not sure that Rudcok has the arm for that.

There's no doubt in my mind that whoever starts at quarterback next year will be good if not excellent.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I read it. However, I feel like the leadership at the top (i.e. the guys that are supposed to coach you up and put you in positions where the probability of success far exceeds the probabiltiy of coming up short) makes a huge difference.

I have no doubt that Fisch and Harbs will put our guys in a strong position.

What I am most excited about is this guy will play a meaningful role getting the defense ready week in and week out. O'Korn not on the field still helps the team out a great deal.

Unless something drastic occurs, Shane is never going to start for the Wolverines. I feel badly for him because he loves Michigan and did a lot of recruiting on his own, but the guy might not have it. Now, I think he can do better now that he has Jim coaching him, but time will tell.

I was looking at his recruiting profiles the other day and didn't realize that he had a pretty solid offer list. Rivals has him with offers from Houston, Louisville, Arkansas, Mississipi St and some other decent schools. I assume he took Houston over those other schools because of early playing time and they slung the ball around, but he wasn't some completely under the radar kid.

Folks tend to forget that this guy was the Freshman of the Year ... in ALL of college football. The view from summer workouts is that O'Korn is the best QB right now ... if he had eligibility, O'Korn would be the starter this year. For sure he starts next year and if Harbaugh gets him totally back on track, watch out for maybe the best QB in the B1G during the 2017 season. Really excited about O'Korn's potential. Really excited by the OL recruits for 2016 and their potential in 2017. Together, these two recruiting things are huge for Michigan football in 2017. If we start filling the holes on defense for that year with some 5-stars ... watch for a B1G title contender in 2017.

I think it is pretty ironic that both rudock and okorn went to St Thomas Aquinas high school. Both transfer qbs, hoping they both pan out.

Is it telling that Harbaugh called him? I wonder if this says anything about the state of our current QB's or just a young man coach really wants. Has the size and athleticism. No matter what happens, this should be the last year we have QB as a huge question mark.

Unless Morris comes up big this year, I have a hard time believing he will be the starter next year. Ideal situation would be Rudock 2015, an improved Shane in 2016, O'Korn in 2017, Gentry in 2018, Peters in 2019. Hope my math is right. And all of them get drafted. That is probably a pipe dream and I am leaving out a few fan favorites. I am very encouraged by what we have in QBs.

More like Rudock in 2015 with Shane backing him up; O' Korn in 2016 and being backed up/splitting snaps with Gentry in 2017; Gentry and Peters battling it out/splitting snaps in 2018, and Peters probably taking over from there. A redshirt between Peters and Gentry is absolutely necessary considering there's been talk of Gentry getting playing time somewhere on the field this year. Now, if Morris, Malzone, and Speight can figure their way in there somehow, so be it.

The only thing I see wrong with your timetable is you pushed Gentry's contributions back to '17?

He'll see significant snaps in '16, in packages designed to utilize his strengths. O'Korn will be the primary starter however.
In '17? Sheesh, we'll have O'Korn, Gentry, RS frosh Peters, and who knows who else by then? Stock the cupboard, Jimmy!
For this season, I don't see how Shane beats out Rudock for the job. His unfortunate bout of mono set back his development at such a crucial time; and his unfortunate coaching the past 2 years may have just about killed his chances at Michigan. I believe we need him for depth in '15, but after that the writing's on the wall. Grand Valley perhaps? Would he be able to play right away there?

Am I the only one who found it odd that a newspaper journalist wrote the sentence, "But don't get it totally twisted?" Is that what we've come to? I'm not an old man but that just sounds ridiculous to me.

Is there any position group under more scrutiny than the QB at Michigan? I am not just talking right now. Even when we were producing NFL QBs seemingly every year, it never seemed like the fans were totally satisfied with any of them.
