Mitch McGary's ESPNHS Blog

Submitted by hart20 on

Mitch McGary's last ESPNHS blog before he announces tomorrow is now out. There's not too much that we didn't already know. His top three are Michigan, Florida, and Duke. Just reading the blog, I got the feeling that it was really between Michigan and Duke (and if you listen to scouts, it's really down to Michigan). He talks about being comfortable at both Michigan and Duke, but not at Florida. I don't think you decide to go  where you're not comfortable.

Here's what he said about Michigan:

What I really like about Michigan is its coaching staff, especially Bacari Alexander. He’s probably one of the most underrated coaches in the country. He really knows what he’s doing with the big men.

I just like that I can trust the coaches there, and I actually like that they’re not on the biggest stage yet. That gives me the opportunity to go there and make a huge impact from day one.

A con for Michigan is that the Big Ten has a reputation for being a slow-paced conference with slow big men who don’t really get out and run the floor at all. That’s not the way that I want to play, so I’ve definitely got to take that into consideration. I know that if I went there it would help change the perceptions a lot.

I also found this interesting: When he talks about the con for Michigan, he talks about the con as part of the Big Ten  and when he talks about the con for Duke, he talks about the con as part of Duke.

What he said about Duke:

The con for Duke would be the perception that all their big men do is set screens and rebound and that they don’t get a lot of touches.

However, I know that if I went there I’d change that up because they mapped out how they want to use me and involve me in the offense, which is appealing.

Mitch McGary, Go Blue!

If the show starts at 5, I would expect an announcement at either 5:29 or 5:59.  ESPN didn't get to be tWWL by not knowing how to milk tense moments for all they are worth.

The best part about McGary potentially picking Michigan, IT'S ONLY THE BEGINNING. With the new facility, basically a new arena, fan interest building and tickets selling the sky is the limit. GO BLUE

NO DAVE BRANDON, THERE ARE NO SLEEVES ON BASKETBALL JERSEYS TO PUT STRIPES!

If a con for M is that the Big Ten has slow big men, then come here and dominate all of them! Sounds like more of a pro to me. "I like Michigan because I can own all the other big men in their league." There, fixed.

Wherever he goes he's most likely the #1 pick in the NBA draft when he comes out so he should attend the school he likes best and has the best football team.

We win.

Only grouping them together because both were taken ahead of Jordan and were "bigs".  Rightfully should have limited it to Bowie - fair point.

The post I was responding to was claiming you would never take a guard over a top big man.

Even if and right now it sounds like it is a rather larger "if" he doesn't pick Michigan it is great to have Michigan Basketball back on the national stage again and hopefully it is only a sign of great things to come for Coach B and the team.

...but in fairness, we should post the other stuff in the blog too:

"I don’t know where I’m heading at this point and obviously there are a lot of analysts out there that are saying I do, but it’s not true.

Hopefully I’ll figure it out within the next 24 hours."

"I haven’t heard from any coaches lately. They have let me have my time to think things out after I talked to all three about a week and a half ago."

If he is saying this, the tweat the other day abotu Duke backing off and throwing in the towel seems odd, considering everyone is giving him space right now if that is true...actually makes me a bit uneasy about tommrow.

If I had not heard all of the scout speculation out there, I would have guessed that Duke was his favorite based on his comments.

Assuming he does go blue tomorrow, is it wrong to hope that the lockout lasts a few years so that our top-tier talent stays as well?
