Misc Thursday non M recruiting musings..
Please be wary of liberal use of sarcasm. Had some free time on a Thursday PM and thought would share some observations of recruiting etc. elsewhere in the B16 and the MidWest.
What is going wrong with tOSU recruiting!!! Is Ryan Day's job at risk!!
-- Jokes and clickbait title aside - OSU had a 4* TE ranked #141 overall recruit flip to 'Bama this week and has dropped all the way to #4 in the recruiting rankings. Guess they will have to settle for the #106 overall TE that remains a commit....
-- tOSU actually does appear to be whiffing recently on a few defensive commits. Tackett Curtis -#92 overall LB (that M wanted but was never in it..) picked USC after being thought a OSU lock/lean. Dijon Johnson - CB at #93 overall CB - is getting ballz to UF (including the OSU folks) after also being assumed to be an OSU lock. To take out their frustrations they are getting many ballz today for Jaden Bonsu a top 200 DB that they appear will land over Miami and...
MSU.
- Is "Tuck Coming" premature? After a slew of high profile visits in June, MSU has been coming in 2nd for a number of out of region 4 and 5 star targets. As M fans can attest - the first step is getting to the point to actually rate a visit but it can take time (or the right situation) to actually land some of these targets. When they do come - hold on tightly and don't get too attached to any early out of state commit that may garner late attention from the "Big Boys" down south.
- The commit lull had been so deep that Michigan's "trainwreck/UNACCEPTABLE" 2023 class briefly passed MSU in the 247 Composite rankings earlier this week. This caused a series of meltdowns by MSU twitter but order was restored after MSU finally landed one of the 96 OTs that their "insiders" had predicted to the Spartans.
- MSU is gaining momentum in state and in the 2024 class with the addition of former M target 4* WR Nick Marshall last weekend. This makes a ton of sense as most young people in Michigan lived through RR and Hoke in their formative years while MSU was doing well under Mike D'Antoni. A study on M live this week backs this up noting the MSU has markedly more fans than M among younger demographics. This led me to a larger concern --- Who's responsibility is it to inform these people that they cannot be "fans" unless they attended MSU? I guess maybe it should be M fans? - several MSU people have been happy to make sure I was an alum over the years...
PSU
- Breaking - Top kids continue to commit to James Franklin for some unknown reason. 2023 may be his best class ever and it actually includes OL recruits. Now if PSU fans can be patient for just another 3-4 years... At least M saved recent commit Evan Link from 4 years under "FG Franklin". I for one look forward to the "Unsolved Mysteries" episode on PSU recruiting in the not-so-distant future.
ND -
- Marcus Freeman must be stopped. Nothing to really joke about here. While checking the 2024 state of Michigan rankings, I noticed that the top 2 players in the state are already committed to ND (including Carr). While I doubt that ND faltering on the field this year will necessarily lead to 'flips" - this is a troubling trend. As dirty as you will feel - you will want to root for tOSU to crush and humiliate ND in Week 1. I suggest rationalizing that it will look better for M to beat an undefeated OSU in November.
Can't wait for the season to start. Go Blue!
Is Tuck Coming when you tuck your junk between your legs and beat off from the back?
I’ve started responding to spam text messages with no-context random posters responses to threads on MGoBlog as a way to f@$k with them and this is going to be my next one. Usually they are just confused as to who “Cade” is and why “JJ” may take his “snaps.”
I think this will confuse them for different reasons.
I don’t for one minute believe that MSU has greater support among younger people than Michigan. Why would they?
BtW, that survey was out of 6200 people(lol). From that they guesstimated support. Dubious to say the least.
Setting MSU aside, 6200 people, if sampled correctly, is plenty to draw conclusions from

I don't buy it either. MSU hasn't been nationally relevant since 2015 and really only had three big seasons. Since then it's been mostly mediocrity. This survey -- which admittedly I have not seen -- seems fishy. Was it sponsored by the MSU Alumni Association?

Sparty will go 7-5 this year.
To MSU's credit they did have a big commit this week and I for one welcome the competition. It was getting boring being one of 3 schools that actually recruits in the B1G.
Tuck is recruiting way better than Dantonio did. But, I am not convinced he is a better coach than Dantonio. With that cautious conviction, I am going to wait for their mediocre season.
Same goes for Ryan Day. He has to prove on the field this year if he is a better or even close to Meyer. If not, he is getting steam rolled by Harbaugh again this year.
PSU is going to underperform just like every year. We will see if they can outperform their # of OT performance from last year's Illinois game. That will be a fun one to watch.
I'm in Ohio and the rage is real for diehard OSU fans. They are furious that they are not beating Bama out for defensive recruits.
I can’t make a new board post, because I’m old and on my phone out at dinner, but legendary name-bearer Decoldest Crawford at Nebraska signed an NiL deal with an HVAC company today. That’s the best thing I’ve heard in weeks

I hope he keeps his cool in the summer and things heat up for him in the winter.
OSU has the third best class right now. I don’t think they’re going to suffer too much with those three players.
MSU is overachieving. The football season will resolve that.
Would be nice to see Michigan start raking in some top talent this month.
