Michigan Wolverines just can't catch a break
That actually made me a little sad, poor little thing.
Good for that science teacher for protecting her all these years from poachers. I hope she died from natural causes. :-(
why don't we just put some more wolverines here? Am I the only one that thinks that makes sense? I mean they were naturally here anyways until we killed them all, so putting them back only makes sense.
She probably died from being lonely..... :(
I don't know if wolverines are the animals you want to bring in to your state. I understand the whole connection with the state and the university, but they're very violent creatures, and unsafe for some of Michigan's residents.
We have places we could put them up north where they wouldn't bother anyone. It would be nice just to have a small population of them somewhere. I mean we have bears in the state already. Wolverines are endangered - so it would be nice for the "wolverine state" to help bring them back.

Yes, heaven forfend that the natural world be unsafe. All the animals should be in cages for secure viewing. We've got to get that weather under control, too!
Wolverines may be nasty little critters, but they're hardly a threat to human beings. The issue of reintroduction has more to do with cost and feasibility. Wolverines have a low birth rate and need very large territories. While there are areas in the U.P. and northern Lower Peninsula that might offer good habit, it's not a sure thing that they'd thrive.
to be reintroduced, however, I could also understand some people being against it. Wolverines have been known to jump down from trees on top of a moose and gouge its eyes out. I can see some people thinking they don’t want their little tike’s eyes being ripped from its sockets.
Also, wolverines are often times highly dependent on other predators, and scavenge for a lot of their food. Though there are some signs wolves have made a comeback in Michigan, it would take a large effort to possibly reintroduce more wolves, bears, or even cougars in Michigan (there are reports of cougars in Michigan now too). I am not against any of this if they can all be safely protected and the humans surrounding their territories can be ensured as much as possible that they are not in danger because of it. Michigan’s wildlife, in my opinion, could only benefit from the reintroduction of native animals, but it is a very complicated task.

We should reintroduce more bears, I'm not extremely familiar with what that would do, I was saying it might take that to reintroduce wolverines. Thinking about it now though, bears, much like wolverines, are mostly scavengers. Nonetheless, there need to be more hunting preditors for wolverines to be successful in Michigan.

i love me some balanced ecosystems. while wolverines might be somewhat troubling, the stuff they eat is also the stuff people gripe about incessantly - deer and canadian geese.
There are plenty of predators in Michigan. That's not really a concern. Coyotes have been confirmed in every county in the state, and black bears (who have always been numerous in the U.P. and northern L.P.) are recolonizing the southern part of the state, as the article below notes. And there are also fishers, martens and a bunch of other small predators out there.

I concour. One, without a mate, was fine. One thousand would lead to a lot of trouble.
Just the last 10 years the comeback the yotes have made is really bad. They are starting to run in packs of 4-10. They are starting to take pets in transition suburbs. I would expect a small child to be taken soon.
The problem that farmers are starting to have with escaped boar is huge, and they have only been out for 10 years. The state has asked any hunter, any sport, to kill any boar no matter when.

Just bring back wolves. Wolves are deaths on coyotes and have a good track record with avoiding human beings.*
If your toddler is wandering alone somewhere that a pack of coyotes can get their paws on it, I think I'd blame the parent there. In general non-rabid coyotes tend to avoid humans, especially adults

The wolverine's last moments have been discovered. It turns out it died of laughter after it came upon four camping Spartans who were sitting around a campfire doing blow.
Apparently, upon seeing the wolverine emerge from the woods, the Spartans were heard to scream, "Oh crap, brah! Wolverine!" They then defended their turf for a minute, and just when it looked like they might scare the wolverine off, they completely choked, wet themselves, and ran off crying.

It has been determined that the wolverine died because of this -as the Spartan was (as we have all suspected for years) FULL OF SH_T!!!
The Freep has launched an investigation because it suspects the wolverine was hunting more hours than the NCAA allows.
Freep believes that the death of wolverine was actually a cover up and blames Michigan, stating that sources inside the University have seen wolverines before on television and are therefore responsible. Stay tuned.
