Michigan Targeting TX DE Brandon Alexander *Updated*

Submitted by DGDestroys on

From Tom's latest tweet

#Michigan is also targeting 3 Star Texas DE Brandon Alexander (6'6", 230 lbs). Alexander has offers from Texas, TCU, A&M, Ok. State.

Now, with all of the recent new targets, I wouldn't normally make a thread. But this kid is a big time player, and pretty much the definition of 'sleeper'. Once his senior film was distributed, his stock rose incredibly quickly, and his offers have all been since then (as a matter of fact, his first Scout entry was in late October of 2010...he's now a 4*). I don't claim to be as much of an expert on analyzing kids as someone like Magnus, but I can tell you that this kid is a stud. Would be a huge get IMO

EDIT: Scout interview says he got an offer

As much as I would love to see an even distribution of recruits at the defensive positions, the bottom line is UM needs to fill a lot of needs on the defensive side.  I'm just happy to see that this staff is aggresively pursuing recruits on the defensive side of the ball.  With the late start they got, any solid recruits that they can get on the defensive side of the ball is fine with me.

Ok that was my only concern, I keep hearing about all these DE's but have not heard anything about any DT's.  I'm not complaining by no means, but know after this season we will be in major need of DT's.  Big WIll and Black will only be able to fill a minor void, I am thinking what about if they get hurt, then we would be screwed.  I am going to have to guess that they are looking at the size of a few of these DE's as possible DT's in the future as well.

Brady Hoke has not slept in over 168 hours.  The recruiting class is priority number one.  Michigan fans are grateful.  And Drew Sharpe is reported as saying "All this hard work promotes communism."

I like how the staff is going crazy all across America right now.  It is safe to assume that this class wont be as bad as I imagined about a week or two ago.

I'm not one to evaluate recruiting tape but I can say one thing... this kid is GIGANTIC and has the possibility to be even bigger. 6'6 listed at 230 and one would think he could get to 250-260 in a couple of years... BEAST

the recruiting prowess of Freddie Jackson when matched with Hoke and Mattison.  Everyone knows this kid reminds Freddie of Lamar Woodley, except for his speed, which is more like T-wolf.  I mean if he comes to Michigan it''s a shoe-in he'd be drafted before Brandon Graham was -- he's THAT good.

But I'm getting real sick of the word, "haters"--the Evil that was Rodriguez is gone.

We can let that word fade into oblivion. Besides, this board, as usual, has run the "haters" pictures and jokes so far into the gound, they can see China.

Brady stops for an in home visit, brings Greg with a highlight reel of Baltimore Ravens.  4 star, and 5 star players shit themselves for seeing what UM football will be like.  Sign me coach!

when they announced Mattison as DC during the Ravens regular season, and before they were bumped from the playoffs?  Bet he would have had no problem announcing he was jumping from the Ravens to Michigan then, huh?

I was thinking about that today.  They should create presentations by position highlighting the studs they have coached and how they used them.  Then line up webcasts with the top players in the country.

Can you imagine how effective it could be if they got Tim Jernigan on a webcast one-on-one with Mattison?  He could show clip after clip of all of the monster Dlinemen he's coached, all while telling Tim "this is how I want to use you.

Interesting that his profile cites his ability to stay low and blow by O linemen, while his video shows him playing high.

Looks like a terrific athlete though, with some solid coaching he could be something special.

He looks like a kid that my team converted from running back/outside linebacker to defensive end (but much, much more athletic).  He had no idea what the hell he was doing out there, but he just had a knack for getting past a block and chasing down a ball carrier.

This kid just seems to be getting by on speed and quickness . . . but damn.

It seems like there will be a shift in recruiting from focusing on Florida back to Texas.  Looks like we didn't need Texas to join the Big10 to establish a presence there again.
