Michigan Targeting TX DE Brandon Alexander *Updated*
From Tom's latest tweet
#Michigan is also targeting 3 Star Texas DE Brandon Alexander (6'6", 230 lbs). Alexander has offers from Texas, TCU, A&M, Ok. State.
Now, with all of the recent new targets, I wouldn't normally make a thread. But this kid is a big time player, and pretty much the definition of 'sleeper'. Once his senior film was distributed, his stock rose incredibly quickly, and his offers have all been since then (as a matter of fact, his first Scout entry was in late October of 2010...he's now a 4*). I don't claim to be as much of an expert on analyzing kids as someone like Magnus, but I can tell you that this kid is a stud. Would be a huge get IMO
EDIT: Scout interview says he got an offer

Once again here is another DE, where are all the DT's?
January 20th, 2011 at 5:56 PM ^
We need both. It looks like we have one of each - Beyer a DE and Rock a DT. Rock might be a DE, but then Beyer might be an OLB, so either way we probably have only one DE in this class. We definitely need both.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:04 PM ^
Yep, I've read that Beyer will be playing (or at least starting out at) LB.
January 20th, 2011 at 9:21 PM ^
If the coaches keep their word and return to the 4-3, I see no way that Beyer's a LB

As much as I would love to see an even distribution of recruits at the defensive positions, the bottom line is UM needs to fill a lot of needs on the defensive side. I'm just happy to see that this staff is aggresively pursuing recruits on the defensive side of the ball. With the late start they got, any solid recruits that they can get on the defensive side of the ball is fine with me.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:26 PM ^
Stop complaining, you do not know better than the coaching staff
January 20th, 2011 at 7:07 PM ^
Don't sell him short.
January 20th, 2011 at 8:48 PM ^
we should be happy about any good defensive prospect! This is not the time to nit pick over number of stars or which position they play. We need more defensive depth and talent at every position.
January 20th, 2011 at 10:04 PM ^
They are contacting DTs all over the country. That's a premium position so they are hard to come by.
January 21st, 2011 at 7:29 AM ^
Ok that was my only concern, I keep hearing about all these DE's but have not heard anything about any DT's. I'm not complaining by no means, but know after this season we will be in major need of DT's. Big WIll and Black will only be able to fill a minor void, I am thinking what about if they get hurt, then we would be screwed. I am going to have to guess that they are looking at the size of a few of these DE's as possible DT's in the future as well.

Awesome, I would love to know where Hoke is today....
January 20th, 2011 at 5:56 PM ^
Brady Hoke has not slept in over 168 hours. The recruiting class is priority number one. Michigan fans are grateful. And Drew Sharpe is reported as saying "All this hard work promotes communism."
January 20th, 2011 at 5:59 PM ^
I like how the staff is going crazy all across America right now. It is safe to assume that this class wont be as bad as I imagined about a week or two ago.
January 20th, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
i for one never thought the recruiting class would be bad. in fact, i think it will be GREAT... because it will be michigan players of old... they will come out of the woodwork... its gonna really pick up the few days prior to signing day, and we're gonna CLEAN UP.

This is great to see. Hoke could have just come in and layed down before NSD, however, he is busting his ass trying to put together a class that they can service and work with.
January 20th, 2011 at 5:59 PM ^
I'm not one to evaluate recruiting tape but I can say one thing... this kid is GIGANTIC and has the possibility to be even bigger. 6'6 listed at 230 and one would think he could get to 250-260 in a couple of years... BEAST
January 20th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
Kid never gives up on a play! I like it!

nice offer list if its legit
January 20th, 2011 at 6:15 PM ^
I love how you have to throw on the "if it's legit" implying you think it might not be.
Girl: "Hey, how'd you guys like my new boyfriend?"
Irish: "Seems like a nice guy - if he's not a child molester."
January 20th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
His offer list is legit. Heard it is an A&M/Texas battle at this point. Hopefully we can get him up for a visit, might be too tough to pull off on such short notice.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:15 PM ^
the recruiting prowess of Freddie Jackson when matched with Hoke and Mattison. Everyone knows this kid reminds Freddie of Lamar Woodley, except for his speed, which is more like T-wolf. I mean if he comes to Michigan it''s a shoe-in he'd be drafted before Brandon Graham was -- he's THAT good.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:26 PM ^
hahaha I am not that smug right now,
I don't know anything about him other than what is written on that rivals page, recruits embellish their offer lists often and rivals doesn't keep that stuff updated as is well known. Its a disclaimer, thats all it is
January 20th, 2011 at 8:43 PM ^
Decided Schematic Advantage sounds good, if it's legit.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:09 PM ^
Where are all the haters now?
January 20th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
But I'm getting real sick of the word, "haters"--the Evil that was Rodriguez is gone.
We can let that word fade into oblivion. Besides, this board, as usual, has run the "haters" pictures and jokes so far into the gound, they can see China.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:24 PM ^
Shoosh.
January 21st, 2011 at 10:11 AM ^
Hater.

Adderal fueld recruiting binge by the coaching staff? I'd approve
January 20th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
Brady stops for an in home visit, brings Greg with a highlight reel of Baltimore Ravens. 4 star, and 5 star players shit themselves for seeing what UM football will be like. Sign me coach!
January 20th, 2011 at 7:03 PM ^
DB screwed the power that could have had over a month ago if the hire was made then. The Ravens/Ray Lewis impact is really most powerful RIGHT NOW. Brandon screwed this class up BIG TIME. Next year Mattison's NFL creds will not likely carry the same weight that it does now.
January 20th, 2011 at 7:11 PM ^
when they announced Mattison as DC during the Ravens regular season, and before they were bumped from the playoffs? Bet he would have had no problem announcing he was jumping from the Ravens to Michigan then, huh?
January 20th, 2011 at 10:13 PM ^
I was thinking about that today. They should create presentations by position highlighting the studs they have coached and how they used them. Then line up webcasts with the top players in the country.
Can you imagine how effective it could be if they got Tim Jernigan on a webcast one-on-one with Mattison? He could show clip after clip of all of the monster Dlinemen he's coached, all while telling Tim "this is how I want to use you.
January 20th, 2011 at 8:26 PM ^
Once again here is another DE, where are all the DT's?
January 20th, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
then he's probably a great player
January 20th, 2011 at 8:45 PM ^
Interesting that his profile cites his ability to stay low and blow by O linemen, while his video shows him playing high.
Looks like a terrific athlete though, with some solid coaching he could be something special.
January 20th, 2011 at 8:57 PM ^
He looks like a kid that my team converted from running back/outside linebacker to defensive end (but much, much more athletic). He had no idea what the hell he was doing out there, but he just had a knack for getting past a block and chasing down a ball carrier.
This kid just seems to be getting by on speed and quickness . . . but damn.
January 20th, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
If he has a Texas offer he is the greatest player ever !

January 20th, 2011 at 9:55 PM ^
It seems like there will be a shift in recruiting from focusing on Florida back to Texas. Looks like we didn't need Texas to join the Big10 to establish a presence there again.
January 21st, 2011 at 12:38 PM ^
we could use him. He is a stud. Especially if we use the 3-4, maybe move him to OLB.
