Michigan Softball Update
In the top of the 6th inning in the first game Kent State leads Michigan 3-0. Kent State hit a 2 run home run in the first and just his another home run in the top of the 6th inning.
The second game starts around 3:30pm.
Still down 3-0 going into the bottom of the seventh.
Brink of disaster right here. A loss to a team like Kent State could really hurt us, given that we don't have many more chances to pick up quality wins.
Last chance for the Maize & Blue. Romero at the dish, 2 down, runners on 1st and 2nd. If I were KSU, I'd seriously consider walking her to load them up, but we'll see what they do.
No luck - Romero fouls out to end the game. This is a really, really bad one for us. No time to mope, though - next one starts in just a few minutes.
I'm definitely not saying panic or anything, but given our remaining schedule, we have very little margin for error if we want to play host in the post-season, esp. super-regionals. This just took a bite out of the margin we had left. And frustrating, because we know this team is better than this.
You're right, though - this will get corrected. The players & coaches know better than any of us how much better they are than this performance showed. Just more motivation to keep improving & stay focused.
Is Kent pretty good? My MGoBlue app shows them at 0-0 for the season.
They're decent for their level. They're 12-4 on the year, but (other than beating us) their only win that has much quality is a 9-0 run-ruling of a sorry Michigan State outfit. Their only other match-up against a ranked team was a 5-1 loss to UCF.
You're right - I missed that first UCF game when I looked over their schedule. That does change the calculus a bit. Still a frustrating loss, but a bit more understandable.
Round two going much better for the Maize & Blue. Romo just put a 3-run blast over the fence to give Michigan a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the 4th. Looks like Kent State's 2nd pitcher is not as good as the first.
is the "egg" that I spoke about earlier. I just did not think it would happen the very first home game. the second game got us back on track. Lets make sure we close strong tomorrow.
10-1. Much, much better!
And I see that the Michigan Baseball Team also played well this afternoon, getting revenge for yesterday's 1-run loss to Kansas by winning 4-2
