anybody have any good info on him?

I went to high school in Ft. Wayne. Although my parents still live there, I don't. HOWEVA...it seemed that the few times I went home, and I saw football results, whenever I saw "Bishop Luers" I saw "Jaylon Smith."
He goes to Bishop Luers, which, despite being in the 2nd smallest division in high school rankings, does VERY well in their conference, often playing the largest schools (5A). They are a perennial powerhouse and have won or been runner up in the Indiana 2A title game.
He was also in the Indiana coaches top 50 All State Team (as a running back), along with a couple of excellent class of 2012 recruits in Gunner Kiel and Sheldon Day
My initial reaction: he is the best player on an excellent team.

I live in Fort Wayne close to the school. Had many friends attend the school. One of them is now the offensive coordinator for the football team.
Jaylon is the real deal in terms of athletic ability. His brother went Harding High School and they were very good at football. The school recently closed down and a lot of the football players ended up (got recruited) at Luers. Jaylon will most likely leave with 4 state titles. A lot of this is because he is an unstoppable RB.
I asked my buddy why they have him listed on all the recruiting sites as an OLB when he seems to be a better RB. He said that is the position that he went through all the combines at before his JR year. He said they were trying to put together a highlight tape of him playing LB from his JR year to send in and said they were having trouble finding plays to put on the tape. This is due to his primary focus being on offense and taking plays off to rest on defense. So if you look at his HS season he is a better RB than LB. But athletically he can play whereever.
He also said that Smith is not an OSU lock because of his brother and mentioned he like ND. For what its worth the coaching staff there is obviously pro ND since they are a catholic school but they also are pro OSU. The staff used to a lot of stuff with Tressel. No recruits from the school have attened OSU or ND. They have at other B1G schools and MAC schools.
I'll be curious to see if anyone wants him as a RB and whether or not he prefers that position to LB. He seems to at Luers.

I would be shocked if someone growing up on Fort Wayne wasn't at least interested in ND. That would be like growing up in Lansing and, oh wait...
(note: I grew up in Lansing. Please don't hold it against me.)

Damn, the #4 overall player in the 2013 class according to 247. That would be awesome to get Jaylon along with Shane, Dymonte, LTT and Ty Issac. The 2013 class could be a monster one and that's saying something after the class that we are pulling in this year.

Don't forget Wyatt Shallman. I really like him. He could do a lot for us, especially in short yardage situations. Also, he's a teammate of Matt Godin, who'd let us know if his head isn't on straight or anything.
January 13th, 2012 at 4:08 PM ^
Yeah Shallman could be a beast as well. Either on offense or defense.

lets not forget about lequon treadwell. Get him and another star receiver... insert the jizz in my pants gif here

He supposedly likes Michigan a lot and was waiting for this offer. With his brother at Ohio, I wonder how valid that info is.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:38 PM ^
8 offers? You'd think after the 1st offer Michigan would leave him alone...
January 13th, 2012 at 2:40 PM ^
Sorry but I don't understand what you are saying. Please explain.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:50 PM ^
offer from #michigan" sounds like Michigan has offered him eight times now.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:53 PM ^
Not sure if you're serious, but with the way the tweet was worded it could be read as Michigan has offered him 8 times.
January 13th, 2012 at 3:19 PM ^
I see what you mean and the person I replied to. After re-reading the OP / tweet I understand now. Its Friday and a slow one at that. I have getting out of work on the mind. Thanks for the explaination.

Already had it.

Looks like our LB recruiting is going to be very good in 2013 as well. Although I only see us take 2, possibly 3. If Jaylon were to come here, the rivalry would continue to get more interested. Dymonte and Dunn are cousins and Rod Smith and Jaylon are brothers. Pretty cool.

I calculated them by combining these stats from prior to the State Finals with the box score stats from the Finals. His team won the class 2A (1A is the smallest class; 5A the largest) State Championship.
Stats:
14 games
148 rushes
1,319 yards
25 TDs
8.9 YPC
17 receptions
191 yards
4 TDs
11.2 Yards Per Catch
52 Tackles
18 TFL
8 sacks
1 INT
2 FR

of this kid. It looks like he has potential. I guess that is why I am not a recruiter.
January 13th, 2012 at 5:27 PM ^
Could he be considered an OSU lock?
January 13th, 2012 at 6:17 PM ^
he is pretty wide open at the point. I wouldn't be suprised at all to see him blue if mattison is his recruiter. Jaylon likes him a lot. I think Michigan will be a big player when it's all said and done.
January 13th, 2012 at 8:07 PM ^
Just remember, when all is "said and done," usually more is said than done.

The ND DC and DLine coach are sitting first row behind the Luers bench tonight. They are wearing ND letter jackets and apparently not going to take them off.
January 13th, 2012 at 9:29 PM ^
Just watched a video I found of him on YouTube and he looks like he could (extremely easily) pack on 20 lbs and not skip a beat in athleticism. Pretty impressive looking kid.
January 14th, 2012 at 1:52 AM ^
I've heard he's been waiting for the Michigan offer and it's exciting were back in play with major high school talent.
Recruits often notice what fan bases show the most love and a simple "Go Blue" tweet is more than enough to show the love.

sidenote; he recently switched his avatar to him in a Michigan snapback.

In a game between the two best teams in the city with a few B1G basketball commits, he had 34 & 14. Was the top scorer and rebounder. ND coaches were on hand to watch. He is going to make a difference for someone.
