+1 for more Hopkins. I trust him. I don't know why yo, I just do.

I feel about him sorta like I did about Minor. That trust level and strength with the ball that maybe you are talking about.

Should be in on 3rd and long situations. Denard's passing has come a long way, but there are times where you need that touch on the deep ball that he doesn't quite have in his arsenal... yet. I feel like Forcier thought the pocket was collapsing a lot of the time when it wasn't though.

This is a dumb statement. Denard is our Qb. Denard will be in the game for 99% of the snaps(obvious health and score disclaimers applying). To suggest that we should put the backup in(even one as good as Tate) for consistent situations is asinine.

Tate is an able QB, but Denard has made more than his fair share of third downs this year, I have confidence Denard will get the job done.

he just isn't being put in for some reason! Kelvin Grady, Junior, Daryl and Tate all played great against Iowa though.

Apparently he is fumble prone in practice? At least that's what I've heard, hence the lack of too many touches during games.

...may I have fewer turnovers?
No, sir. I would absolutely like that apple turnover. It's just the American Football turnovers I want fewer of.

he seemed to be trying to rush everything, you have to assume that it was because of the score. I would be curious to see what he could do at the beginning of a game with the other team gameplanning for Denard.

It's not even a slight exaggeration to say Taylor Lewan was neutralizing Clayborn. it might even be an understatement. Watch his block at 3:23. He puts Clayborn on skates! Wow. Just wow.
October 21st, 2010 at 8:19 PM ^
I love how he is always moving in the right direction
October 21st, 2010 at 7:51 PM ^
Denard was not the same throwing the ball after his int again...it seems he got happy feet and real erratic throwing after that. Not nearly as decisive....
Tate, was erratic at times to and don't forget he threw an early pick breaking the pocket. Tate has a real bad habit of breaking the pocket right to the pressure and not sliding away from the pressure.... he is not helping his lineman out at all....
I think I want to see more designed roll out passing for both tate and denard.
October 21st, 2010 at 8:03 PM ^
Further on LT: In contrast to Lewan, Clayborn gave Huyge all he could handle and sometimes more, especially in pass protect. observe: 5:36 and Tate's first INT.

Smith doesn't have enough power to get the first down if someone meets him in the hole.
I agree with more Hopkins! Whatever happened with the jumbo formation that we used on the goal line earlier in the season? I assume Hopkins was running the ball with Big Will and another lineman in the backfield to lead the way.
Where is Mike Cox? I heard earlier there was some disclaimer about too much fumbling in practice. Is this still the case or are ther other issues?

are good.

On the blocked field goal, I couldn't help noticing that several Iowa players (you know, the WELL-COACHED ones) were pretty clueless, too. Only one guy (the one with the ball) seemed to immediately understand the situation.
Doesn't make RichRod's troops correct, but it lessens the sting somewhat ...
October 21st, 2010 at 10:48 PM ^
but between the penalties, the fumble, the INT, the blocked FG...all these stymies; I couldn't believe how many times we were stopped by ourselves. Quite frustrating that was. I tell you one thing, Penn St. isn't going to have a chance...they didn't want to make this a white out game? We'll make it a 'raise the white flag' out game...

It seems that most of our fellow fans think that Denard was "struggling". To those who think that, see the video, consider how we moved the ball! Consider the penalties, the fumble, the blocked FG that Denard had nothing to do with. Denard didnt struggle, we moved the ball just fine. See his stats for the game. And I also think that people who make the Tate in passing situations are delusional. Lets review, Denard has led 2 come from behind (obvious pass situations) game winning drives, one of which he was 5 for 5 passing (on the road). And one more thing to the "Tate should be have more snaps crowd". Denard is just as likely to break a 60 yard run, in fact, Denard is waaayyy more likely (based on his big play ability vs Tates BPA, see Denards first play from scrimmage ever, or his heisman resume throughout the first 5 games 2010) to make a big play for a touchdown in a catch up situation then Tate is to throw a 60 yard touchdown. So my question to the Tate on 3rd down, Take if we get behind by 14, Tate for president crowd is, ARE YOU SERIOUS??
October 21st, 2010 at 11:45 PM ^
Iowa's DBs are really good tacklers. They were great at denying yards after the catch. And still, we moved it all over the place.

I just finished watching the video and Taylor Lewan played very very good against one the best defensive ends in the country. Also Hopkins played really good i think we will see him more and more the rest of the year... GO BLUE
October 22nd, 2010 at 9:30 AM ^
- we ran the ball very successfully (it's not that we only started moving the ball once we started throwing like crazy)
-Lewan's personal foul actually was a bad call, I withdraw most of my venom toward him. His hit was not unreasonable and happened right before the whistle. Smart? No...but legal.
-loved Stokes's moves after the catch to pick up a first down; still have high hopes for him
-our WRs are very talented; that position has officially flipped from liability to strength
-turnovers make my soul wither and die

I think we found another playmaker in Gallon. Both his bubbles he showed ridiculous quickness and moves. The whole falling down part was not good, but I think we see much more from him moving forward.
