Interesting. Brett McMurphy was wrong about this being a noon game. Maybe there's hope the MSU game won't be night.

It is funny to see Fox jettison us for their Big Noon slot. Last year every other game was Big Noon; this year, it might just be Penn State and Ohio State.

It was probably looking like the most likely Big Noon game at the start of season. Fox's picks are often B1G at Big Noon, and then Pac12 at 330ET. Would not have predicted Colorado playing a 10am local time game as Big Noon before the season started, and thus it bumps M to another slot.

I think it's pretty clear FOX has the "first draft pick" for October 21.  NBC has the second pick.

Figure that PSU @ OSU and Michigan @ MSU split those spots.  None of the other 4 B1G games that week are overly interesting.

If you don't want MSU at night --- U-M fans would theoretically need to root for the Spartans.  With schedules, a 5-1 PSU @ 4-2 OSU is likely the worst possible record match-up.  A 7-0 Michigan @ 5-1 MSU would get picked before that ..... I don't think a 7-0 Michigan @ 3-3 MSU gets picked before that, however.

Either way I hope MIchigan fans buy up all the tickets as Sparty fans flee this team and just make it a home game in East Lansing. Then who cares when the games kicks off.

With game 4 approaching, you may see some MSU players sit out to preserve a redshirt, and after the hearing Oct 5, if Mel's indeed fired as I assume he will be, the team may fall apart -  If a head coach is fired, players at that school are immediately eligible to enter the transfer portal for 30 days.

So will there even be an MSU football team by the time they play Michigan? Stay tuned.

I'm sure there will be plenty of Michigan fans in attendance for that game, but MSU fans will still come out in droves for that game. Especially if Dantonio is on the sideline for it. It may not be his team necessarily, but he will still be able to crawl into those player's heads and plant all that chip on your shoulder, DISRESPEKT nonsense that his MSU program fed ravenously on like starving orphans.

Its still their Super Bowl, and it will make their entire season a resounding success if they can somehow pull the upset. No matter what else happens.

Yeah, I watched their game against Washington and I saw McMillin get a long reception and then a MSU player twisting his helmet where his head was turning past sideways and another time there was a MSU player twisting a Washington players leg after they were clearly down. That is vintage Dantonio crap. The dude is a pos scumbag and wants his players to play dirty.

That is my biggest concern about the MSU game. Getting everyone out healthy, and no one getting drawn into or egged on into stupid fights that will impact their ability to play in the weeks to come.

I don't doubt that MSU players will be begging for a fight that night. Especially if their season is already over with nothing else to play for, it'll be very much a "If we're going down we're taking as many of you with us as we can" kind of mentality.

Especially if Dantonio is on the sideline.

You are absolutely correct. This year will be the ultimate “one game season!”

However, this has all the makings of an absolute beatdown, reminiscent of the last game of the Bobby Williams era. After the tunnel assault last year, the players and coaches will be fired up and focused. And Harbaugh will happily run up the score and humiliate these gangsters.

Very interesting take but not out of the realm of possibility. Given the a$$ whooping sparty got from Washington, they have to be very deflated. If they fall on their face again this weekend, then wheels will have come off the wagon. It's going to be fun watching what will happen in E Lansing these next few weeks and into early October.

I didn't know about the 30 day portal rule under those circumstances. WOW!

I'm not so sure how many UM fans will show up. I'm expecting sparty to go full blown stupid from a fan standpoint. Maybe I'm not giving them enough credit but I'm expecting full fledge violence and the older I've gotten I've learned it's just best to avoid those types of circumstances.

Obviously, I hope I am wrong about the above.

There are plenty of knuckleheads, for sure, but don't overestimate how fair-weather their fanbase is. I was at Sparty Stadium for the drubbing in 2018 and it looked like half their fans had their backs turned to the field throughout the second half. In the face of adversity, they just DGAF.

The Spartans are 2-1 with three more games and a bye week before Michigan takes the trip to EL.

Those three games are:

  • Maryland in EL
  • at Iowa
  • Bye week
  • at Rutgers

What will their record be?   It seems like the Maryland game will set a tone. Maryland is 3-0.  If the Spartans lose that one - they could be 2-5 when they face the Maize & Blue.

As it is that's a 10 AM kickoff in Boulder.  Kinda crazy when you think about it.  It seems like we may not see Johnson and Klatt until 11/11 in Happy Valley.

Like it or not, Colorado and it's hype train, every game being "personal," appeal to the most ego-driven and insecure football fans (who live on proxy achievement because they have none of their own), and Deion's utter failure to support these young men in becoming disciplined adults is the best selling brand in college sports.

Maybe I'm embodying "old man yells at cloud," but this sport is pushing my interest toward more constructive/positive outlets. I don't want to hear a "leader of young men" openly talk about how he favors one of his sons more than the other.

He's propagating and accelerating the worst elements of college football and his comments actually made me sick to my stomach. It's not acceptable to emotionally abuse your children on live video but apparently that's what our culture celebrates.

Wow I hardly know where to start here.

First off can you give me some examples that led to this statement "Deion's utter failure to support these young men in becoming disciplined adults is the best selling brand in college sports" as the game I watched Saturday sure looked like it was CSU that had that issue, not Colorado.  It was CSU committing 17 penalties for 176 yards and it was a CSU player that took the very cheap and dirty shot that knocked Colorado's best player out of the game.

Second of all from which of his comments did you draw this from: "He's propagating and accelerating the worst elements of college football and his comments actually made me sick to my stomach. It's not acceptable to emotionally abuse your children on live video but apparently that's what our culture celebrates."  I am completely unaware of any comments he's made other than "it's personal" referencing his response to the shot the CSU HC made at him (and by proxy his mom) for wearing sunglasses and a hat during interviews.   What did you read that I missed that supports a claim of child abuse for god's sake.

If you dont like Deon that's fine, he's not everyone's cup of tea, but to make the claims you're making about him is nothing short of ridiculous and definitely lean precariously close to being racially driven IMO.   Deon holds his players accountable for both their play on the field and their actions off of it and as much as you might hate him, given his sunglasses and white hoodies, Prime has much more Bo & Woody in him than most of today's coaches.

That's considered "child abuse"?

1. It's clearly a joke

2. He's not wrong.  I have four kids and while I love them all equally and would trade my life for any of them in an instant if called upon; I do not like them all equally (you know, because they're all different people with different things that interest them.)

Did you see Deion on 60 Minutes last night? He’s actively appealing to the “old man yells at clouds” segment of the population. Paraphrasing, if you let verbiage run you off, you don’t belong there in the first place.
He has an interesting mix of self-promotion mixed with Saban-esque old school values. For example, he immediately says he’s the best coach, but when pressed on that, he admitted he’s happy getting scraps of knowledge from Saban.
The key with Deion is to not be distracted by the Great and Powerful Oz. Focus on the man behind the curtain.

"You don't belong here" is toxic masculinity at its finest. You're projecting your own weakness onto me, using language suggesting that "I can't handle harsh words" when I'm just calling out problematic male behavior that appeals to violence heirarchy and upholds patriarchal rituals of emotional self-amputation aka "the only acceptable male expression is anger, so I don't express insecurity, sadness, fear, etc."

My statements threaten this long-heralded system that ultimately harms men, and manifests most deftly in sports - which began as a proxy for war and jingoism.

So instead of admitting that I might be at least partially correct for calling out Deion's harmful language/behavior, which would require you to interrogate your own motivations for celebrating these elements of sport, you take the weak path, which is to other me and erase my alternative masculinity which dares to challenge any element of your paradigm. This paradigm was likely first instilled into you by your father and then by your friends or siblings. So to question it is to question your own identity.

Challenging traditional masculinity isn't done because it elicits violence from other males, no matter how seemingly toothless it is. Ypu should be introspective rather than admonishing me for pointing it out.

He's not referring to you Dennis - he's referring to the players at Colorado who would leave because of his harsh words.  THEY, not you, "dont belong here" meaning in the Colorado football program not here on the blog.

And, what else did Jay Norvell - CSU's head coach - say about Deion and Colorado?

"They got a good football team, and their quarterback has been the difference," Norvell said. "He's playing at a very high level. We're gonna have to slow him down."

Norvell was even more complimentary of Coach Sanders earlier in the week...

"Deion Sanders has had a lot of public critics. I'm not one of them," Norvell told reporters, according to The Coloradoan. "I really respect all head coaches and the sacrifices they've had to make to become head coaches, and I appreciate the path they have to go through to get there -- especially African American coaches. I was happy to see Deion get his opportunity. I had to wait a long time to get mine."

(And for those who may not be aware, Jay Norvell - Colorado State's head coach - is also African American.)

I think there's mutual between many coaches - and, there are many cases when the animosity is very clear.   I don't think there's animus between Deion and Sanders - both share things in common and you want to support those to be successful.

On an aside - I'm not one to point fingers - I just wish there was a bit more maturity on the personalities we've seen in this instance.

An in-state rivalry is just "stronger" - more intense - and, despite the size of the B1G conference - there really are only three "in state" rivalries in the conference - Michigan vs MSU, Indiana vs Purdue, and Illinois vs Northwestern.   No other state has more than one conference team.

It seemed to me that Norvell was trying to be funny - and, maybe "pick on" Deion in a manner he intended to be humorous.  Unfortunately, it was - again, IMO - blown out of proportion.   Personally, I'd have preferred any comments from players on either team be kept in the locker room / practice field - but, I'm old school.

IIRC, in 1979 Purdue with Mark Herman (#9) as their QB - defeated Michigan in West Lafayette.  The next year - as Michigan prepped for Purdue - the number "9" was on flyers all over the Michigan locker room - practice facility - etc.  Michigan's game plan was to take away Purdue's passing attack.  Michigan shut out Purdue, with Herman still as their QB by a score of 26-0.  But, those were the "old days" - teams kept more to themselves and social media didn't exist.

So honest question...have you actually watched Deion other than on field interviews?  or is it just what you see on twitter etc?

You should watch the Amazon Prime series on him, or his interview with Joel Klatt. It's definitely not what you think. Deion is a lot more Nick Saban/Harbaugh than he is Mel Tucker/Jimbo Fisher. He's an old school football coach, tough as nails, high expectations, and no bullshit. Yeah he talks a lot, but it served him well during his playing career, why would he change now?

I was dead certain this would be a night game. This is the game on Nebraska's home schedule. I figured it had night game written all over it.

In any case, I'm fairly certain that Minnesota will be a night game the week before as well.

Basically entirely depends on which network has the first pick that week. MD@OSU and M@MINN are likely the two biggest Big Ten games. Likely that one ends up on FOX Big Noon and the other NBC night, but the schools don't really get a choice anymore, the networks pick based on their preseason draft of weeks
