Interesting how Gerdeman has become less of a haughty nut hugger of all things t(tm)OSU as Michigan has become the neighbourhood bully. I imagine it must pain him, somewhat, to watch an elite Big 12 team in Columbus these days.

Buck nuts are all thinking they will dominate us like they did in 2018 and 2019. I think those days are long gone. I think it will be close and Michigan may win by a FG. But I'm hoping for a big Michigan blowout, something like 42-27.

It's close to those days being long gone, but I think it comes down to how Michigan handles NIL. The talent disparity in the recent past was explainable because the programs recruited under two different sets of rules.

If Michigan can close up the talent gap, everything else is about equal (facilities, resources, coaching network, &c.). Michigan has an academic reputation advantage that usually doesn't make a difference in recruiting, but that gets more than negated by Ohio State's in-state talent advantage.

Note: edited for clarity!

seems like one would have to have intimate knowledge of the admissions process regarding scholarship athletes at both institutions in order to make this claim...

And that's not to say I believe the opposite is true...I just believe the general public doesn't know with any certainty which athletes would get into one vs the other.  We know UM makes it rather difficult for undergrad transfers to get in...and we hear/read often about how from an academics & athletics standpoint, UM is more in Stanford/ND/NW territory, but none of us really know the actual admissions criteria for scholarship athletes at UM or OSU.

If I've missed a memo, and am wrong here, I welcome correction and enlightenment.

I'll go back and edit my comment for clarity, but I think we're overall agreeing. Even if there are any recruiting positives for having an academic edge, that is overshadowed by OSU's wealth of in-state talent.

But I don't think the academic edge is a 'zero' in recruiting. You get a few players/families where it makes a difference, and these tend to be guys that Michigan really wants from a culture perspective.

Hasn't it been established that we rarely ever get non-grad transfers due to admissions/academic restrictions?  Also, wasn't it an admissions snafu that was part of the reason Xavier Worthy went elsewhere?  Academics are not the only thing keeping us from having OSU/Bama level talent, but it isn't a non-factor either.

In a certain way I can't blame them. This season does seem to rhyme a little with 2018.

OTOH Urban Meyer is long gone. If you told me that one team is dominant in the run game and less than average in the passing game, while the other team is superb in the passing game and has approximately zero running game, which one do you think would have the advantage?

"But as Michigan showed last year when Stroud went for 394 yards and two touchdowns, passing yards are for show, running is for dough."

I remember fretting about Stroud's numbers for much of The Game last year, but yeah, it didn't matter all that much in the end, did it?

For all the talk of bad weather and the flu, CJ Stroud and those WR's really did play their asses off last year.  Olave, JSN, and Wilson were out there stuffing their highlight reels like crazy.

And it didn't matter, because they couldn't run the ball or stop us from running the ball.  So they had zero control of The Game and we made em pay for it.  And whether or not they can run the ball and stop the run this year is still an open question...

Ohio State has pirate ninjas at WR, and last year they all played themselves into the NFL.

Stroud...idk, if the book on a player is "falls apart with the slightest hint of pressure"...that doesn't bode well. I bet he at least gets a cup of coffee in the League.

I'm always going to fret about giving up 400 passing yards...but I feel like our DBs give up like 2-3 circus catches per game. And then little else. I don't see a repeat of last season's "Stroud throws it kinda anywhere and WRs make insane catches."

Either we shut down OSU's passing game, or we get torched. I don't see much in between.

Tony and Tom Orr are actually a pretty great listen on their Buckeye Huddle podcast.  I simply can't stand most of the mouth breathers who talk about that program, but those 2 are actually a great listen.  They're pretty fair and balanced in their takes (especially since last year broke their invincibility mindset).  They've basically been talking non-stop about Michigan since the Penn State game and I appreciate that they actually try to be honest about how they compare to us and our strengths/weaknesses.

Meh. I like Michigan Monday and appreciate his honesty. It’s all the other war painted violent asshats that bring down the rivalry. A true Michigan or buckeye fan could crack a walnut in their ass crack this week.

They've absolutely had issues in the redzone (sounds familiar), but I wouldn't count on that this Saturday, since they play way over their heads against us.

The bigger issue is their defense actually helps this year, so just when you think you've got them on the ropes, JT Tuimoloau or Zach Harrison come ripping through the line and force a bad pass that gets tipped and intercepted or a fumble that gets returned for a touchdown and suddenly you're looking up at them on the scoreboard in a flash.

I often get b10 stuff in my feed, non-Michigan related... Very often its OSU specific... and when I look at the comments, there's typically non-stop bravado and an assumption they will pound us into the sand.

Recently, I've seen a lot less confidence in Day, and specific to the offense and playcalling. I think their insistence on running, though it may make sense, is making their fans nervous.

Also... I hope on Saturday to see what happens when Hammer.. meets Nail.

Everything to me just seems to come down to how effective JJ is with his arms and legs.  Granted his WRs will play a part and I think the O-Line will hold up ok.

Michigan has shown themselves to be pretty conservative with him all year.  I think his effectiveness is the key to balance out the offense and put pressure on the Buckeye offense and when this UM defense is at it's best.
