Michigan Monday is up
No Earth-shattering analysis, but I know a lot of us like to read Gerdeman's take on our game. My favorite line was regarding Nordin's miss:
"I don’t know why he was kicking at that point and not Moody, but I’m not going to try to understand Jim Harbaugh."

"I don’t know why he was kicking at that point and not Moody, but I’m not going to try to understand Jim Harbaugh."
Sigh....neither do we Gerdeman.....neither do we.
October 15th, 2019 at 11:28 AM ^
I think it's because Moody missed his last attempt. Honestly, that's what I think. I guess we see Moody for the next one...if we ever even attempt a FG again.
October 15th, 2019 at 11:30 AM ^
As opposed to Nordin missing his last (limit does not exist)
October 15th, 2019 at 11:50 AM ^
Yeah, I said this in another thread. I think we ran Nordin out there because it was windy af and probably a miss, and Moody is the kicker we will rely on in a clutch situation and we didn't want him to miss two in a row.

The FG rotation is fucked up and going to bite Harbaugh in the ass. Harbaugh has never been one to pull a kid over one miss/mistake/Int. He is loyal to Nordin based on how many chances he got before Moody came in and crushed it.
Moody earned the job. Let Nordin kick the bombs
Moody should kick both FGs and EPs. Let the the kid get in a rhythm during games.
If you are playing for the FG center your right footed kicker on the left hash
Nordin’s yips started at PSU where he had de-committed and the crowd was all over his ass. Guess where we play Saturday? Nothing would be better than to see Nordin kick a 55 yard game winner at PSU. But play Moody
October 15th, 2019 at 1:54 PM ^
Seems like in the past Harbaugh has pulled his RBs after fumbles but due to lack of better alternatives has had to put them back in.
October 15th, 2019 at 3:33 PM ^
Yes with RBs backs but they are also more rotational rep types where you go with the hot hand.
October 15th, 2019 at 2:42 PM ^
If you have two kickers, you don't have any?
October 15th, 2019 at 11:39 AM ^
Early in the season they were literally trading off kicks--Jim explained that in some press conference. Not sure if that was still happening in this game.
October 15th, 2019 at 12:11 PM ^
It seems like they're still trading off kicks to me. Harbaugh has seen these guys kick a lot more balls in practice than I have, so I won't question his judgment on which kicker to play. The number of kicks we see in games are just a small subset of the total of kicks these guys are taking. My guess is Harbaugh is hoping one of these guys will separate themselves from the other, but neither has.
October 15th, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
I don't even like Nordin kicking extra points. I only want to see him when it makes sense to kick it from 55+.
October 15th, 2019 at 3:08 PM ^
I'm sorry but I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here. Did anyone actually watch the replay? It looked like that kick was pretty good up until a huge gust of wind pushed that ball just outside the upright. I actually thought it was a pretty good kick, just an unlucky situation. Our kicking game is the least of my concerns.
October 16th, 2019 at 7:10 PM ^
Same here. That ball took a huge turn and no one has mentioned it. Hard to fault Nordin in that one. IIRC, the announcers didn't even mention it.

I swear, the ad algorithms on these blogs are not doing their job right:
October 15th, 2019 at 11:41 AM ^
"The Wolverines were playing without receiver Nico Collins, so that was at least three targets that Patterson didn’t get to take. Slot receiver Ronnie Bell led the team with three catches for 98 yards, which included a 71-yard catch and run. Donovan Peoples-Jones caught three passes for 36 yards and a touchdown, going over 1,000 yards receiving for his career."
October 15th, 2019 at 1:01 PM ^
Cringeworthy but all facts.
October 15th, 2019 at 11:50 AM ^
maybe its just me, but i thought the better line was this one:
The Wolverines were playing without receiver Nico Collins, so that was at least three targets that Patterson didn’t get to take.

I think he's getting tired of writing this. He lost me at this:
"Michigan isn’t good enough on offense to shut things down right now. Hell, sometimes they aren’t good enough to start them up. If they’ve got something good going, they’re going to try to keep it going indefinitely."
Game after game we have seen a deep strike work once and then Harbaugh/Gattis abandon it. See e.g. Brian's comments on the 51 yard strike to Collins against Iowa.
Previously Gerdeman has written ridiculous things like citing Glasgow's rise to a starter as showing our D would be horrible because a former walk-on was starting. Glasgow earned it, he wasn't reluctantly slotted in because the starter was moved to another position out of desperation. He beat out the previous starter.
October 15th, 2019 at 12:10 PM ^
Seems like Glasgow has been flying under the radar his entire career. The most underrated play of his career was the open field tackle on the fake punt during the Game in 2016.
October 15th, 2019 at 12:33 PM ^
We’re they playing 2 safeties?a lot of coaches will not call a play that includes a deep route with 2 safety’s. Most rpo’s have the same route tree, just depends on who is open. Shea seems like he always throws short of the 1st down marker.
October 15th, 2019 at 12:44 PM ^
He should say that. Glasgow wouldn't be playing on osu defense if he was there. That's the difference in these 2 programs. I can't for the life of me figure out why this board doesn't understand this yet. When osu hangs 40+ on this defense again maybe you'll understand then?
October 15th, 2019 at 1:33 PM ^
You don't think players like Graham and Ryan Glasgow are good enough to be part of a team that could beat OSU? His point was that if any walk-on is a starter then the defense won't be good. That's just dumb. There has even been an All B1G walk-on in the OSU program.
October 15th, 2019 at 3:46 PM ^
It's fair to say Glasgow might not start at OSU. But OSU and every other program in the country would be satisfied with Glasgow's production.
October 15th, 2019 at 12:17 PM ^
He thinks we are going to beat Ohio State:
"but they won’t need to worry about the Badgers again until the Big Ten title game."
October 15th, 2019 at 3:34 PM ^
Pretty sure that's some highbrow snark
October 15th, 2019 at 12:27 PM ^
That line "come-from-ahead win" is a good one. Otherwise, here and nearly everywhere else point out the obvious, that things got unsettling. I know I felt unsettled. But if having to bet $50 of our own money in 2-minute intervals during the second half, when would you have bet on Illinois/
October 15th, 2019 at 12:38 PM ^
The line that made me chuckle:
"If Penn State just sits back in a two-deep zone to take away the deep ball....."
Haha. What fucking deep ball are you talking about man?
October 15th, 2019 at 12:40 PM ^
OK, kicker strategy....Moody if 45 yards or less, Nordin if over 45 yards. OK, lets move one.
October 15th, 2019 at 12:55 PM ^
I'm not sure about much of his analysis here. Basically, it all boils down to his conclusion, I'll believe it when I see it.
Fair enough. Time to put up or shut up, I suppose.
October 15th, 2019 at 1:32 PM ^
I only saw the beginning of your game, and it looked like Illinois would be lucky to reach 100 total yards. Not sure what happened, but seems like a noon road game against a crappy team would lead to "sleepwalking" a bit, especially when it's sandwiched in between Iowa and PSU...
October 15th, 2019 at 1:44 PM ^
He is putting less and less effort into these columns, there is something off about his writing style this year. He is producing content for a deadline but not energized by what he's putting on paper.
Not the last couple of installments anyway.
October 15th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
Maybe he sees the deterioration of the rivalry, as Michigan wins about as often as Minnesota beats Michigan, and his attitude towards the column is a reflection of that. Why put in the effort when the rivalry is just not anymore?
It has morphed into a foregone conclusion, so less analysis need be done.
October 15th, 2019 at 2:43 PM ^
He posted that he watched your game with Iowa twice. He's probably irritated about that still....
October 15th, 2019 at 2:16 PM ^
"Come-from-ahead win" is the perfect description of that game!
