Michigan Mens Basketball open thread vs. Nebraska
January 27th, 2015 at 7:47 PM ^
Spike Albrecht didn't do anything until the NCAA tourney. Caris Levert needed until the final 4 and then really took off last year.

Dawkins might have the best upside on this team, barring maybe LeVert
January 27th, 2015 at 8:01 PM ^
Has gotten so much better over the course of the season. He's not great, but his improvement has been noticable.

Remember today is the anniversery of Zack Novak's anuyerism (sp?) of leadership and the MSU win at the Breslin, so only good things can happen on this date. :)

Way to start the half strong!

MAAR and Dawkins are like the bash brothers.
January 27th, 2015 at 8:05 PM ^
and aggressive players on the team.

Robinson probably will be too (however many years of eligibility he has left). I wonder if Irvin stays all four as well. Those are the types of pieces that championship teams are built around. Get a 4 or 5 star in 2015 and a couple biggies in 2016 and those teams could be right back where we were in '13 and '14.
Man we need frontcourt guys. The staff had to know that McGary was probably going to be gone this year regardless, although Horford was an unfortunate surprise. But to go into this year relying on Donnal and Bielfeldt, yikes. And there's no one in line for 2015, just Robinson and a few more wings on the offer list.

Like both a lot.I think MAAR will be better because he can create shots for himself, similar to Levert..Dawkins more of a pure jump shooter.

Heart.
...if they played with this heart before everyone got injured, we would've been ranked by the time everyone went down. It's the one thing that drove many of us NUTS.
The heart and urgency they're playing with now is awesome. They've never been talented enough to go through the motions and rely on the 3 point shot to win games.
Now we're just going to Zack Novak teams to death.

But MAAR and Doyle are coming along.
Pretty much the game you would expect. I hate using this word because I'm suffering from Post-Craft Stress Syndrome.
But grit.
This is a gritty bunch of M-F'ers. They're just forcing the ball into the basket and it's only pretty if you like a bunch of guys playing hard and forcing the action.
Take Aaron Craft, toss in some Novak and put J-Mo on the back line...and that's pretty much what you're watching.

Nebraska is shooting 23%. Petteway hasn't scored.
January 27th, 2015 at 8:08 PM ^
It's an incredibly young team, but it does seem like they are growing up a bit as these games go on. Losing Caris obviously hurts, but it does seem to be pushing some of the younger guys to step up offensively, which is great going forward.

Are all twice as good as they were to begin the year.
None are dominant, but with some experience and confidence, they're all servicable players. Good to see players get BETTER throughout the season.
Oh, hi Coach Hoke!
January 27th, 2015 at 8:17 PM ^
Is Hoke at the game? Or did something just whoosh over my head?
January 27th, 2015 at 8:08 PM ^
My untrained basketball eye can't tell if this is good defense by Michigan, poor shooting by Nebraska, or a combination of both.

January 27th, 2015 at 8:13 PM ^
I'm no expert analyst, but our freshmen are REALLY coming together. We have a chance to be damn good next year, especially if we hang onto Levert, but even if not.
January 27th, 2015 at 8:13 PM ^
Bielfeldt with the hustle and the putback!
January 27th, 2015 at 8:15 PM ^
Time to go back to the 1-3-1.

Is Donnal injured, or what's his status because he hasn't made an appearance yet
