Michigan Football Uniform Timeline
M Victors has put together a comprehensive look at Michigan's uniform/helmet history right up through yesterday's game. I know somewhere Wolverine Devotee is devouring this.

Link doesn’t seem to work, fyi.

Thought the Blue pants worked well. I’m not a fan of the all white unis. Prefer anything to that and most of the other options work well.

Mods, if you deem the post worthy to keep, perhaps you can correct my URL goof?

My wife commented during the game that the blue pants worked well.
I, as I have learned to do over 20 years of marraige, agreed. Made the helmets pop. Good contrast with the white jerseys.

Just put something, anything, on them so they dont look like yoga pants.

I felt we looked like Penn State with Michigan helmets. But, anything better than the white pants where we see guys jockstrap through the material.

Thought about that too. Then I watched some of PSU game and realized we were inverse of PSU. They are white blue white. We were blue white blue.

First time Harbaugh wore blue pants on the road, too. So the announcers said.
#?

He somewhat telegraphed this by wearing blue pants for the first 4 home games.

Not to Wolverine Devotee the conversation but he wore them last year at Minnesota as well

97-98... Ah yes. My freshman year. One can only hope we get there again. Love maize and blue combo

I still wear my 1997 Woodson home jersey with the embossed Ms on the shoulders. Wish I had picked up a road jersey too.

I have that Woodson home jersey also. Wore it at the 1998 Rose Bowl. Still my favorite ?

I really wanted that jersey but I had to settle for the Dreisbach 12. I still love it.

I know people were happy to have the helmet stickers come back from the Bo/Moeller years but I still think the wing looks much more epic on its own. Look at the picture of Patterson with about 5,000 stickers on it. That’s just clutter. It would be like putting hundreds of bumper stickers on a beautiful car. No need to add to perfection.
Otherwise, thanks for the link. That was a great read.

I usually don't like changing the uniforms, but I thought the blue pants looked alright with the white jerseys. I'm not a fan of them at home, though. The guys looked like giant blue berries.

This is cool. I notice a helmet stick for Cade that said TED. Did he give a TED Talk?

I’d really like the team to do something like:
- Home: Traditional jersey with a cool alternate once per year (as seen vs ND in 2011, or Washington this year for example)
- Away: Change it up. Different uniform combos throughout the season.
I think it would be a cool mix of tradition and new uniform combos. It creates more excitement in the program for fans, players, and recruits.
Either way, the alternates this season have been pretty nice and I hope it continues.

I agree. The all Maize is nice, and at first I didn't like the blue pants, however they grow on ya.

The blue pants worked better than expected when they first ran on the field. I do prefer the all white road uniforms though. Those are pretty bad-ass. Never really liked the traditional yellow pants/white shirt combo.

1867 Back when men were men and very sore after the game!

Anyone able to confirm if they are still painting the wings on the helmets? This year's helmets look like they are using decals for the wings instead.

I was not a fan of the idea of blue pants with white jerseys, and said so here before the game. But they actually weren't bad in person. And then we won.
I am a convert. Hallelujah!

I don’t like the color combo, but I’m superstitious enough to not want to fiddle with something’s that’s working.

The blue pants with white jerseys actually looked pretty good.
Once (probably just once), I would like to see maize jerseys with blue pants. (Not all maize, that's just too much)
I also feel like the helmet stripes and wings have gotten wider/bigger, and the balance of the helmets is off. Needs more blue. And there's way too many helmet stickers given out.
October 3rd, 2021 at 10:34 PM ^
Fix the helmets. They look terrible.
October 3rd, 2021 at 11:01 PM ^
De gustibus non est disputandum, however I thought there were two things that would make blue pants work better: 1) the socks need to be a contrast color. Blue pants into blue socks make it look like players are wearing a leotard, something should break it up. I'm watching the Patriots now, and they look pretty good with blue pants and blue upper/white lower socks. Solid white or maybe even maize would be good. 2) I think striped football pants are better than solid. They could mirror the white jerseys and do thin white/maize stripes and I think it would be great. Or go NFL style and have maize-white-maize stripes.

Still can't find out what the TED helmet sticker means.
October 4th, 2021 at 9:32 AM ^
Why did they ever have to get rid of the block M under their shoulder numbers? That looked really cool.

I was really surprised how many changes there's been over the years. Adding the blue pants is just another variation. Like them quite a bit actually
