Michigan fans going to EL

Submitted by 2Blue4You on

With all this talk about us being scared and Sparty rolling us, lets hear from those of you who will be making the trek to EL this weekend.  Going to the game or not, who is going to be there in their Maize and Blue representing Michigan in a classy, slightly arrogant way?

Personally, I thought about watching it at home but tickets fell into my lap so i am busting out the Maize sweatshirt, Michigan poncho and car flag to trek up to EL to sit in the middle of what I assume will be a whiteout and cheer for a big Michigan win.  I expect to take my lumps and dish it back accordingly, with the understanding my whereabouts.  I am going to emotionally prepare myself in the event of a heartbreaking loss to walk out with a smile on my face and my head held high.

Having been to most of the games this year home and away and given the weather report, I am not in a huge hurry to get to EL and get my drink on and be verbally harassed.  I have done the whole Sparty tailgate at the tennis courts with the brahs.  It really sucks b/c if you don't want a urinating in public ticket you spend most of the time in the port a-potty line (grab a beer when you get out of the john and get back in line).  Never been into the Stadium for a game but I saw a concert there, so i am looking forward to critiquing the stadium with great bias.

Let's show them that we are not scared and make our presence known in EL and in Spartan Stadium tomorrow!  Go Blue, Wear Maize!

This is the attitude that bugs me, we treat teams playing at the big house with respect, by doing so fans are not scared to come to the big house. However Sparty and OSU treat us like shit so we no longer go to their stadium. Fuck that I think Michigan fans need to protect their home and treat Sparty and OSU so bad they don't want to come back.

My Sparty brother, who has season tickets, gave me his extra ticket. I'm tailgating with him & his Sparty friends and then sitting with him at the game. So I'll be decked out in Michigan gear but plan on staying pretty quiet during the game. I'll clap when Michigan does something good but won't do much taunting, etc.

I won't be there myself, but it might be of note that there are extensive renovations going on around the stadium, or at least they were in high gear as late as this summer. Not sure if it would affect actual entry or getting around the immediate area, but it might be something to keep in mind as you approach the stadium. I believe some it included a recruitment center, new donor plazas, entry gates that will comply with NSA regulations and several other items.

Only the north entrances and the area immediately surround the area south of the river.

If you are sitting on the west side of the stadium, there is a smaller entry gate just south of the press box that will have a 50% shorter line than the larger corner entry ways. There is also a flight of stairs inside the press box/premium seating area that are open to all ticket holders and will allow you to skip the idiotic/dizzying ramp systems.

If tickets fell into my lap, I'd go.  I have gone to EL for this game every year since 1999.  But this year seems different.  None of my buddies who are normally up for a trip to EL care to go, and I don't really care to make the drive either.  Of course the 70" LCD and kegerator newly installed in my basement makes the desire to go to Spartan Stadium nearly non-existant.  That Stadium really needs to be renovated beyond video boards.  Plus, staying home in Ann Arbor allows much quicker access to the after-party!

Edit: Also note that there is major road construction going on all around East Lansing, getting in and out is sure to be a nightmare.

I'm so sick of our fan base, I see so many people say they will not travel to MSU or OSU because of the way they are treated. However our stadium gets taken over by MSU and OSU fans because we don't treat them bad enough. I feel our fan base is a bunch of pansies. You don't want to see a lot if red in The Big House, start treating their fans like they treat us.

I agree with class, I'm not talking about fighting, shitting in coolers, but why is everyone so scared to go to MSU/OSU? Because some guy talked shit, talk shit back. I talked shit to every ND fan I saw walking out of the stadium this year(by talking shit, I don't swear, or threaten to fight) I sang the chicken song loud and proud, if I convinced even one ND fan to never come back to the Big House then I'm happy.

You want to stoop to their level? Go right ahead.

I'm all for rivalry and playful banter, but the day you make it personal, start throwing beers, or yelling profanities at some guy's wife just because of the color shirt she's wearing, that's when you need to re-evaluate your priorities.

Yeah, its a big rivalry, I get that. But at the end of the day, its just a damn game. If other opposing fans want to make jackasses of themselves, that's their problem.

I will never go. I have gone to a couple Michigan/MSU hockey games at Munn. One time after an overtime win, some middle aged MSU Bro got into my wife's face just because she was wearing maize and blue. We were just walking out of Munn. Since Munn is basically a library in terms of fan intensity, I can hardly imagine what a zoo spartan stadium is.. Screw that. I would rather stay at home and not have to deal with the morons.

I had a guy get in my wife's face at MICHIGAN stadium.  He was sitting in her seat and wouldnt move.  She sat a seat over (next to me) but when the row started to fill up she politely asked him to move so she could sit in her actual seat.  The dude stood up and started yelling at her at which time I picked him up by his shoulders (adrenaline is a hell of a drug) and literally three him in the air down about five rows of seats.  My kids watched the whole thing and just sat there with their mouths wide open going "Holy Shit dad you just THREW a guy".

I told my son (he was about 22 at the time) that if another man gets in your wife or girlfriend's face all bets are off.  I'll walk away from a controntation with me but no way in Hell in my walking away from one with my wife.

I agree 100%. At the Big Chill I was walking with my group (14 of us) and there were a couple drunk Michigan fans swearing at a family of MSU fans with 2 very young kids. We almost beat the shit out of them, the only reason we didn't was 2 cops heard everything and quickly brought those guys to the ground. We got a very nice thank you from the MSU fans and had great conversation with them while we walked through the golf course. Being a father myself I can't stand it when people swear at or in front of children and women.

Went four times. Saw three wins. Don't feel the need to go again.

Besides, why should I pay 80 bucks to watch 300 and Belle Tire commercials with a little bit of football thrown in to make me feel like I got my money's worth?

It'll be my first time at Spartan Stadium for a game. I was at the U2 concert a couple years ago and I thought the stadium itself was nothing to brag about.

I anticipate going down in a blaze of glory win or lose... Probably because they'll strap me to a couch and light it on fire.

Go Blue!

I've been to Spartan Stadium a few times and it's never been too bad. There's a few bad apples everywhere, and there might be a few more due to the rivalry, but I've never experienced anything close to bad enough to make me want to avoid going to a football game.  I've been to many away games and I feel that if you are respectful of those around you, you've got a buffer.
