Michigan dark secrets
The offseason can be a long and difficult time for football fans, but it is a time that generates some really interesting threads occasionally. In light of this, I pose this question to you all:
What are your deepest and darkest secrets relating to your Michigan fandom? Are you a convert from the other side? Do you have any regrettable stories from watching Michigan games? Do you have any dark secrets now?
I'll start: I love Michigan and cherished my undergraduate years there, but next year I start my PhD at...Ohio State.
Your avatar is indeed appropriate then
At my first Michigan game in the Big House someone handed me a marshmallow that I tossed at the band... it made it into a tuba and I feel bad to this day.
Later in the game I was hit in the head with a pizza box-frisbee, and I think that was my first experience with karma.
I had a few (way) too many drinks before the 2013 UM-OSU game and was denied entrance to the game. I can't imagine how much torment I would have been in if that two point conversion was good.
I stayed
:-(
And I left.
And I WENT BACK.
Wait... I *thought* I recognized you!
Huh. Who knew.
I didn't go to the game, but I was leaving a friend's place near the stadium right as it started up again and decided to walk past. Weird, weird sight and sounds.
I've never deeply hated OSU basketball. I use to love Jimmy Jackson's game. Ever since then, it was just another game. Maybe it's also because my hatred of all things Izzo runs so deep....
I agree...I hate MSU in basketball and OSU in football. The other one is a rival, but not THE rival
I truly despise that little bastard.
I did my Ph.D at Purdue. While there I would cheer on the Boilermakers when they weren't playing Michigan, but that's about it. My father and daughter are both MSU graduates, so I do follow them some, but I've been a Wolverine at heart since I was a little kid.
I believed Brady Hoke would win a Big Ten Championship!
I REALLY liked the Brady Hoke hire.
I went to Michigan for 5 years (4 undergrad and 1 grad), and I only bought season football tickets for the last 2. I'm kicking myself for not getting into the football scene earlier. I actually went to every game during my 3rd year, but it was through free tickets given to me from fellow students.
It's not a secret your going to ohio state and not just because you posted it here. Good luck though. Show your true colors by being smarter than everyone
staee. Once threw my UM flag javeline style into the wife's muddy garden after a particularly frustratingly stupid loss in the RR era. Think it was the second PSU game.
Is that a euphemism for something?
Also, phrasing!
I can't watch the football games with anyone. My wife is allowed and enjoys watching the games too. Anyone who is not a part of my household is NOT WELCOME on Michigan game day.
All of my friends and family know not to call or come over on game days. My wife leaves the house ( her preference) and takes the kids with her. They also know not to plan anything for these days. I will not attend if they do so.
I hate the distractions of idle conversation or other people complaining about the refs, play call, etc.
I get lots of flack from the wife for having to plan our social calendar around Michigan sports.
One of my best friends is a State fan and he has called me during the course of gamedays to remind me that Michigan was losing. One day I'll be calling him to brag about a Paul Bunyon trophy in Ann Arbor
At my house on gameday it normally sounds like the royal rumble inside the house lol. I lose my fuckin mind sometimes watching us play. I have broken a 50inch flat screen and about 10 remote controls watching Michigan Football in the last few years. B4 we bought our house i got the cops called on us because the manager of our apartment thought i was beating somebody inside of my apartment lol. Damn saying all this im like wow i really fuckin lost it at some point. I talk shit to my brother for having Michigan stickers on his wall because he never watches them play. All i can say is i love Michigan Football and maybe im a little to competitive lol!
Yikes.

Have you always done that or has it been a reaction to things since The Horror.
Calgon
Spent my grade school years in Cleveland and then moved to Ann Arbor for high school, whereupon my contrary churlish childishness made me an OSU fan out of spite or something. Still went to Michigan for undergrad. After growing up and actually seeing actual Ohio State fans... yeah.
Best of luck at OSU, chunkums - I now live in Columbus as do a good many other posters here - let us know if you have any questions about the surrounding environs. Free pro-tip: don't open any coolers.
I have completely stopped buying adidas Michigan apparel because I am waiting for an announcement of the decision on the apparel contract.
MDen is selling limited addition, one-day only Michigan adidas D Lillards on Saturday at 9am and I can't buy them because of this.
Just Do It.
This joke was nuanced.
Impossible Is Nothing.
Of dark secrets, not something everyone already knows.
I'm the total opposite. once Michigan goes back to Nike, I'll never buy another article of Michigan apparel as long as its made by Nike.
A friend of mine and I have been boycotting Nike since the '92 Dream Team (olympic basketball).
You wouldn't buy Michigan football/basketball/hockey national championship gear because it's Nike? Real question
Nope. I loathe Nike. I think they have been the downward spiral of sports for the last 10-15 years. I haven't bought anything Nike since the late 90's. Not to mention its pretty well know that their business does some shady ass shit.
If I ever feel the need to buy UM shoes of any brand that will become my dark Michigan secret.
saw someone on campus yesterday wearing a very official looking under-armour michigan boxing track jacket. not sure if those are one-offs for the boxing team kinda like the reebok stuff for hockey, but it gives me hope. looked pretty slick.
I didn't know that boxer shorts were different from regular shorts. I had a pair of M boxers when I was 10 that I used for gym every single day. I wore underwear under them, but they were boxers all the same. A girl finally explained it to me near the end of the year.
I did this with Space Jam boxers. Also wore them to gym with whitey tighties underneath. Didn't think twice what the slit in the front was for.
After Kordell Stewart hit the hail mary pass I told my dad I was a Colorado fan.
I felt physically sick for two weeks afterward....
I drove my brothers car to work when he was out of town. He has a big Sparty license plate on the front as he is a msu graduate. Go blue!

I turned off a lot of games this year before the second half even started. Like almost all of them.
Not that absolution from a random internet stranger means anything but you have it from me.
After the Utah game, I deliberately chose not to watch any games at all.
Wow. How are you able to do this? As painful as it was to watch, I don't think I would have the self-control to not watch.
I knew the Hoke era was coming to an end (or I wanted to) after the ND game last year. Worst display of football for an experienced Michigan football team, I can recall ever watching.
Last year was the first time I actually chose to not watch large parts of games. Our team was so boring to watch.
in the last 2 years I watched a total of 5 games. I couldn't take that idiot clapping on the sidelines looking as lost as I would in the space station.
I guess I get negged because I didn't say what a nice guy hoke is. Lol
