Michigan BBall Season Snowflakes

Submitted by TheCube on March 24th, 2022 at 9:37 PM

Okay season, overall. S16 is where the expectation was; that’s where the team went even tho it felt like overachieving.

This team went how Houstan went like Brian wrote in the pre-season.

Everyone should come back. Nobody on the team is NBA ready. The recruiting class was highly overrated (product of COVID?)

3 McDonald’s AAs

Bufkin barely played

Diabate still raw

Houstan sucks.

Dickinson playing beneath the rim as a 7 footer against a short team like Nova was disappointing to see. But he’s had games like this throughout the season.

Hope to see Eli succeed in the GLeague or overseas. The Professor is an Ironman.

I seem to recall the same sentiment when Jordan Poole went to the draft.  It took a few years of development, but he is evolving into at star from what I hear (I don't follow the NBA).  In my experience with kids in their late teens and early 20s, the most sure fire way to get them to do something is tell them they can't do it, or in this case, they are not ready.

My guess is that a lot of these kids who leave early don't feel like they are at their peak, but have the option to get paid while they work toward developing their maximum potential.  This applies more to the players on student visas since they can't make NIL money yet.

Proud of the team. Wish they could’ve made some layups this game, but they exceeded expectations from the way the regular season went. Get the freshmen another year of practice and strength training and next season could be a damn good one.

and you, OP, are a shit fan.

I agree! Looking forward to the future!  If we just hit more layups, and if our bigs were quicker to the rim.  Also we missed a bunch of free throws.  Nova is so clean and pure, it is really impressive.  They don’t fuck up, maybe once but not twice.  We never supposed to get that far other than preseason ranking.  I’m okay with it, and no body smacked anyone.  Which is nice.  Still hurts though.

  1. Michigan wins this game if they make half their layups and half of their free throws.
  2. Houston and Diabate are unequivocally not ready for the NBA. NBA players do not Hit the side of the backboard on three point attempts and fumble the ball away in the paint when they have a six inch height adbantage.

3. The non foul call on Dixon with six minutes or so is to be expected if your a Michigan fan and have witnessed the ref shit show we have seen this season. I think we were down six and would have the ball…  probably would have missed a layup anyway.

Cheers to the professor, Dj and big dick. Well miss those boys.

How does anyone function in life always angry and negative. This team grossly outperformed any expectation I had for it midway through the year.  They played their asses off, sorry some of them missed your lofty expectations.

Because some of us still can't break the emotional bond these teams and games create with us.  The way the games go have a huge impact on that notion too.  Like tonight...wow.  I'd rather have seen a 2018 repeat and tip the cap.  In reality, in 90% of simulations of this game we are back n forth to the finish or we won because "high percentage" shots were taken and should have fallen.

Instead the opposite happened and it suuuuucks.  Cheers go the guys.  They battled as you say.  Their limitations are easy to call out from the couch from us jackasses but kudos to them.  Truly.

Preseason expectations, love of our dudes, pride, and we did kinda do okay.  I have never understood or cared about criticism of players.  We root for Michigan, don’t dump on kids.  (That seems patronizing, but they are kids) Especially freshman who are really talented and are learning.  We did good to salvage the season.  But man, if we could have hit at the rim….

So for everyone that thinks Hunter is gone, can he guard Giannis, Ambiid or Durant? How does he go pro in North America?

Caleb does not suck. He is not NBA ready, but he will be good.  It’s obvious that he was promised minutes, he got them, he should know he isn’t developed enough to leave. I trust Howard will let him know that.

That's kind of a ridiculous standard considering no one can guard those guys

Regardless, the question isn't 'who can he guard', but rather 'will he get any better staying in college'

He will easily go pro in North America if he wishes

Limited athleticism at both guard spots, roller coaster at the 3 and super raw 4 mixed with an All-American center. Making it to the Sweet 16 should be a solid accomplishment despite the freshmen massively overrating the team.

All hail Eli Brooks. A treat to watch him grow into the all-time winningest player in program history. That kid has a heart that cannot be questioned.

Never apologize for a sweet 16 appearance. It’s so hard to make elite 8’s and final 4’s. Just ask the rest of the teams in the big ten.

Just ask Gonzaga and Arizona what it's like to lose in the Sweet 16. One off night and you're done. Never will not appreciate the work of this team reaching the level of competition that separates the few from the many who play college basketball. Would have been nice to close out Villanova, but the Wildcats played their game better than our guys played their game. Appreciate the effort and the achievement.

All your opinions are terrible. Hope you don’t come back. Learn about basketball.

Good season. Look forward to next year.

Nice run in the tourney to at least make something of the season but overall it was a really not fun season. Something needs to be fixed on the offensive end.

Need a new pg and some shooting.. Lots of shooting. Good God, fucking Houstan today... That brick off the corner... Such a nothing factor out there

We got farther than anyone expected, including any of us, took down the SEC champs and took the Big East champs to the wire (kind of)

It's going to be a weird offseason with a lot of pieces to a difficult puzzle to figure out, but this was a season of hard knocks, you got to be optimistic that there were a bunch of lessons learned by all the young players

I agree sweet 16 is the expectation and they achieved that.

On one hand there’s no shame losing to a 2 seed as an 11, when Vegas and all the stats showed they were better.

But man that was frustrating as hell to watch. You defended them about as well as you could hope and just could not make anything under the basket. My hope grew as the week went on and I looked at what Purdue and Edey did to them. 21 points on 13 possessions. Dickinson had 15 points on 18 possessions. Just no where near the level of domination you needed  to have. And yet they were still in it most of the way. Just couldn’t hit a damn shot.
