Michigan Athletics dominated Ohio State in 2018-19

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on July 2nd, 2019 at 5:39 PM

The final count was known once Michigan Rowing beat them for the 4th time in 2018-19 but now that the season is over I figured it would be appropriate to share this.

Notes: certain sports head-to-head results are counted differently.

For example, your record in Swimming & Diving is determined by your dual meet results. Team performances in postseason championships do not reflect your record.

However in sports such as Gymnastics, Cross Country, and Rowing everything is counted. So Michigan beat OSU in their head-to-head meet in February in M Gymnastics. But Michigan finished ahead of OSU at the B1G Championships so that counts towards the team's record and in the overall series history. I'm not sure who invented this way of record keeping but it is what it is.

Track & Field isn't listed here because the sport counts nothing at all in regards to team records.

Here's to an even better 2019-20 against them.

Going to see a switch to the Block M on that 7th one down later on in 2019.

Vegetarian but if M does it I'll eat a turkey drumstick.

Great to see ! Would love to see where we stand overall with MSU as well. That being said, we all know what sport we need to win.

We did even better against MSU. There was a point earlier this year where we hadn't lost a match to MSU yet across any sport (in 2019). Shooting from the hip I'd estimate it was more like 38-7-1 once all was said and done, so I guess that's what you get when you keep Nassar in house to "win".

I'll defer to your inside knowledge, and after searching Mgoblog I can't find it, but wasn't there a point recently (thinking Mens soccer where we were suppose to lose and didn't) where we still hadn't lost to MSU in the 2018 2019 season over any sport?

I agree the athletes did phenomenal against OSU this year, I was simply attempting to highlight that I think they did even better against little brother/sister.

I'm glad UM won all those games/matched vs OSU but this is about the lamest thing I have ever seen. FOOTBALL. FOOTBALL. FOOTBALL.  Nothing else matters.

I agree with Baughz the participation trophy crowd around this place is a little embarrassing.  And according to Michigan fans, the Game is just another game and the outcome isn’t that important as long as UM beats OSU in more sports during the season.

OSU football doesn’t give a crap about rowing.  All they care about is beating the crap out of the UM football team for the umpteenth time.

Awesome to see, but as we all know, the headlines and national perception of Michigan’s athletic abilities are all dominated by the result of one sport. And we’ve been getting our asses handed to us for the last 20 years.

Not right that that’s how it is. But......that’s just how it is. No one would really care if we beat OSU in Women’s Rowing every year for the next 100 years save for the ladies associated with those respective teams. Football drives any and all perception.

I'm not sure I understand why Track and Field don't count.

We either beat them or we didn't.  So which is it (in both men's and women's track)?

Because there is literally nothing to count anymore. Everything is a non-scoring invitational unless there's a rare one-off quad meet.

The only events that are scored are conference and national championships and the results from those meets don't compile a record.

It's quite sad actually as we used to face them every year--indoors and outdoors--in "The Dual".
