I just got up myself, but after I fulfill my parental obligations and take the kids to the pool (looks like the indoor one will work better today), I am going to try and swing by.

How's the line? En route the Garage Sale now.
August 14th, 2011 at 7:13 AM ^
About ~300 people. I got here at 6 and there is ~100 ahead of me.
August 14th, 2011 at 7:19 AM ^
Plenty of parking? Any tips on which lot?
August 14th, 2011 at 7:24 AM ^
There is a fair amount of parking in the Yost/canham natorioum lot.
August 14th, 2011 at 7:07 AM ^
In about 30 mins

Is the parking lot next to the stadium going to be free for fan day? How's the rain situation?
August 14th, 2011 at 7:39 AM ^
Yes that lot is open. It is drizzling right.
August 14th, 2011 at 7:41 AM ^
This line is like the latest episode of curb your enthusiasm with the chat and cuts. When I got here there was ~100 people in front of me, now there is ~150...
August 14th, 2011 at 7:41 AM ^

At the entrance to Fisher. And no umbrella:(
August 14th, 2011 at 8:30 AM ^
Is it worth it to head down there now? Or is the line too long already?
August 14th, 2011 at 8:35 AM ^
August 14th, 2011 at 8:39 AM ^
I got there around 4:30 and I was about 20-30th in line. Between then and 5 no one will really showed up, but after that the line just blew up. I just left and the line snaked down the length of the baseball stadium and halfway down the length of Yost. Insane line.
August 14th, 2011 at 8:48 AM ^
How was the selection?
August 14th, 2011 at 9:10 AM ^
Johnny Sears jersey. I almost want to purchase it.
August 14th, 2011 at 9:27 AM ^
A Boren jersey
August 14th, 2011 at 3:22 PM ^
I'm happy to report that that offending piece of merchandise was still hanging, unclaimed, when the sale ended.
August 14th, 2011 at 3:25 PM ^
LOL.
I saw that too. I found it on a table by the jersey racks and I was thinking, "This one is in good condition. What name is on the back?" I saw Boren and dropped it. I wonder if anyone bought it.
August 14th, 2011 at 9:29 AM ^
Selection was pretty impressive at the beginning, although people were tearing it up. Scored a game worn James Rogers jersey and a baseball jersey.
August 14th, 2011 at 9:38 AM ^
What were prices like?
August 14th, 2011 at 9:47 AM ^
Really reasonable. Football jerseys were the most expensive at $50, with everything else around $20.
August 14th, 2011 at 10:16 AM ^
I got in line about 715 and by the time i got in there was still alot of stuff. im assuming the good jerseys were gone, but i got a no. 94 nike jersey, football pants, a sweet adidas windbreaker and a practice football for 95 bucks. I look like garret rivas when i put it on though.
August 14th, 2011 at 10:17 AM ^
Any helmets?
August 14th, 2011 at 10:26 AM ^
Not that I saw.
August 14th, 2011 at 10:28 AM ^
I didn't see any, but there was about 200 people ahead of me, I would imagine those would go first if they did.
August 14th, 2011 at 10:44 AM ^
August 14th, 2011 at 11:11 AM ^
I imagine alot of poeple would be selling stuff. There were people there with enough stuff to stock a Dunhams. It was borderline disturbing to be grabbing that much stuff.
August 14th, 2011 at 11:50 AM ^
I had planned on going, but decided against it after reading how long the line was. I've never understood is why so many people are willing to to wait multiple hours in line just to buy things at a small discount.
August 14th, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
Small discount? Most stuff was 75% off. Some stuff can't be found anywhere else. The one cool thing I saw was a pair of those Maize and Blue shoes that they came out with real briefly, selling for 25 bucks. However, the only pair I saw was a size 18. I'm not fitting into that.
August 14th, 2011 at 12:28 PM ^
yes, I got close to $500 of merch for $155 and 3 hrs of time.
August 14th, 2011 at 12:42 PM ^
If you really think about it though, you woke up at 4AM to wait in line for 3 hours for the opportunity to buy secondhand clothing. Whatever floats your boat, but I just don't understand it.
August 14th, 2011 at 1:31 PM ^
most of it is not second hand. and I was in line and back home in 3 hrs
August 14th, 2011 at 8:22 PM ^
I think the bigger allure is the game-worn merchandise. That's not easy to find elsewhere. If you can manage to find an actual jersey (not an "authentic" one at M-Den, but one a player wore), you're going to pay a lot more than $50 for it.
If you don't want to wait in line forever, don't come when it opens. I got there at 10:30. There were still probably 100 jerseys for sale, and a lot of other stuff. There was no line to get in. I waited 25 minutes in line at the checkout for credit cards (though if I'd brought cash or a check, it would have been five minutes, tops). No big deal.
August 14th, 2011 at 2:02 PM ^
Not really any different then the day after Thanksgving. Cat's be lining up outside Best Buy for days to get stuff at a discount (not second hand). Not really any different here.
August 14th, 2011 at 2:56 PM ^
Yeah obviously you don't know what you're talking about. I used to go every year. I have several pair of game worn basketball shorts that were like $15/ea. The coolest deal was a friend of mine who got one of Robert Traylor's size 15 game worn Nike's for $5 and had him sign it later on. The garage sale rules.
August 15th, 2011 at 12:56 AM ^
For some it is an opportunity to own another piece of the Michigan experience, and for others it is a chance to get a great deal. Different people have different priorities.
I bought a pair of Michigan hockey pants there about 6 years ago and they are by far the best ones that I have ever owned. I got them for about 1/3 of what I would have paid retail, they have survived many seasons on the ice, and they have the added benefit of having the Block M on them. What could be better?

August 14th, 2011 at 12:23 PM ^
I do hope people are selling stuff, being in Madison a bit tough to get to.
August 14th, 2011 at 12:41 PM ^
Also, anyone that bought an extra jersey, sweatshirt or polos let me know looking for XL stuff to buy. Thanks
August 14th, 2011 at 12:56 PM ^
They had a David Cone jersey and the adidas QB jerseys from the spring game two years ago.
August 14th, 2011 at 2:47 PM ^
I bought the Cone jersey. It is 100% awesome. Proud owner.
August 14th, 2011 at 3:45 PM ^
Please never put that up for bids. I wouldn't stop til I got it, and couldn't afford it if I did.
August 14th, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
Well you cannot afford my jersey, a game worn home Nike Zoltan Mesko jersey. My prize from the garage sale. Yes, I have the jersey of the Space Emperor of Space and all of the intergalactic powers it comes with.
edit: what's overrated with a Zoltan "Space Emperor of Space" Mesko jersey?
August 14th, 2011 at 5:01 PM ^
The person who bought it?
August 14th, 2011 at 5:42 PM ^
Hmm, it wasn't I who down-voted you. Sounds like you got the pick of the litter. Congrats!
August 14th, 2011 at 5:41 PM ^
I wouldn't do that to you.
