Meta: you know it's slow when

you are getting upvotes from stuff you posted 3-4 days ago.  I obviously check my MGOPoints total way too often.

Anyway...

Is anybody else not as anxious during the football dead(ish) period as I am?  For me, summer has been that long hot period of time that seems to drag on and can never finish quick enough as I'm waiting for the football season.

This year I plan to enjoy the summer and not impatiently wait for the fall.  I know good stuff is in store for the Maize and Blue and I'm not going to wish a speedy end to the summer.

Waiting for football season is hard and is getting harder each year.  That said, I plan to enjoy my summer.  You CAN have it both ways!

I will be sad to see the football chatter die, if only because it will further amplify the UNACCEPTABLE-type basketball reactions

that you can upvote somebody and it adds to their total, but it just doesn't show up as a "number" within the thread.  Surprisingly (or perhaps not),I think the lack of up and down voting has resulted in enhanced quality of conversation.

There also doesn't seem to be a limit on how many times you can vote on one post. You could upvote yourself to a million if you had the dedication. Then use that million to downvote someone to negative one million.

Both up and down voting are still working.  The point totals still change, but the votes don't show in thread.

Which is kind of a bummer.  How do I know if something I said is funny (or horribly offensive) without that feature?

terms of funny, if you think it was funny it probably was, that is the rule I am going by.  In terms of incredibly offensive, if it is that bad people will respond to it with actual words.  Given that words take effort, I think it will take quite a bit to get a response.  So, essentially, this is your chance.  Come out with your most offensive material.

As much as I'd like to enjoy summer, I live in Virgina, so it is physically impossible.  The heat/humidity that Michigan gets for 6 weeks in late July thru August lasts from May thru Sept in VA.  This place is like living in hell during the summer months.  Couple that with the simple fact that I am more excited for football season this year than I have been in the last 10-15 years, and you have an out of control angst for Sept to show up early.

I thought I was excited last year for Harbaugh's first season.  That was nothing like I feel for the upcoming Yr 2...

That's the first thing I noticed when I moved to the DC area . . . you get very few days where it is actually comfortable to be outside.  It goes from too hot to too cold in two weeks.

You get a few nice weeks in the spring and a few nice weeks in the fall.  The rest of the time it's either too hot or too cold.  That's why you don't see as much outdoor cafe seating in restaurants as you would expect for a city this size.

Places like Chicago and New York have miserable winters, but you can be outside comfortably most of the late spring / summer / early fall.

In that case I am acclimated.  I grew up in Pittsburgh and we had hot weather in August only then.  This was back before AC was financially attainable for my parents so I remember trying to sleep in 80+ F degree temps at night.

One thing I would like to do someday is spend a summer in Ann Arbor.  I never got the chance when I was in school (summer jobs in Pittsburgh and or ROTC camps).
