Meta - MGoShoe Homage - MIA 1+ month
It's been over a month since MGoShoe checked out. I for one miss him.

He was a huge presence rightfully bio'd by SixZero...

I have to agree with him that post Appalachian State PTSD sufferers are not to be suffered.
There have been many a great MGoUser who have come and gone. I miss Michigan Dan, MGoObes, TOB and even some banhammered into oblivion ... and many other unmentioned posters. They all have their reasons too many to list or attribute....
MGoShoe...RIP. I am jealous of the time you have bonused back to yourself this past month. I hope you spent it well and are enjoying the wild ride that is Michigan athletics.
Homage complete...carry on.

Nice guy? I don't give a shit. Good father? F--k you! Go home and play with your kids!

Second place? It's a set of steak knives.

The quality of the OPs has declined markedly since MGoShoe's departure. How many threads now start with just someone throwing up a link with little if any summary and nothing block-quoted from the article?
For those interested, MGoShoe is now a contributor at Maize Pages. A recent post of his can be found here.

i am sure he stops by every once in a while to see how things are going, if the time is right for him to jump back in. when he is ready, i will be glad, if he chooses not to return, i understand that too.

i am sure he stops by every once in a while
Accurate, and not actually all that uncommon for some of us 'lurkers'.
September 27th, 2011 at 1:50 PM ^
its been crazy round here, lots of voices lately.

Dang, a big loss from my view.
I myself have been frustrated with this blog for over a year. Ever since the Never Forget depression set in, and the virus attack, Brian has been in a sad over-reactive state, and many of us have been all over the place as well. I keep hoping that was the nadir, and we'll collectively pull out of it. (Loosing Tim and TVH was a setback as well, but Hieko and Ace are gaining ground.)
If anyone hasn't figured it out yet, David Brandon is Don Canham reincarnate. Yes, he is trying to figure out any acceptable way to make a buck, and balance that against the anti-change types. Now, I ask you, did Don Canham change things for the better? He hired Bo, he figured out how to fill seats (through promotional tactics at first), and he figured out merchandise licensing - all of which contributes to what we think Michigan football is today. Yes, the hiring of an unproven Hoke outwardly appeared to be a Lloyd-era coup, but the more I read about Brady Hoke, Greg Mattison, and Al Borges, the more I think we need to be patient. These guys seem to be managing the transition well.
So, I wish MGoShoe had been more patient as well, and hopefully he re-emerges.
September 26th, 2011 at 8:57 PM ^
MGoShoe didn't leave because he was upset about Hoke. He's a big supporter of his. He left because he felt this community had become too knee-jerk in its criticism of the athletic department.
September 26th, 2011 at 10:14 AM ^
Was much better. This thread and the loss of the real Chunks the Hobo illustrate that fact.
September 26th, 2011 at 10:23 AM ^
I loved haloscan as much as anybody, but it became impossible to read once the first 'process' happened..

I'm still here and as real as it gets, boyee.

I didn't dislike Shoe as I make a practice of not forming personal opinions of people I have never met, but I found myself on the opposite side of too many of his opinions to feel sorry that he is gone.
I got pretty tired of opening every piece Brian wrote and finding Shoe whining about Brain's opinions. This is what blogging is about. You can agree or disagree with what you are reading, but whining about it is just silly. For him to get bent out of shape about it, and take his ball and go home, leaves me little room for feeling sorry that he's gone.
He's a UM fan and I don't dislike him so I bid him a fond farewell, but won't be paying any great deal of homage to him.
This is just my opinion, and I know others loved the guy, but hey...everybody's different.
September 26th, 2011 at 2:50 PM ^
My opinion. He was a asshat blowhard whiny bitch. He rarely had anything nice to say. This blog is a better place without him.
September 26th, 2011 at 8:37 PM ^
Than you have in your whole time here.

I guess this is what profitgoblue is talking about when he says "civil discourse" and "constructive posts".
September 26th, 2011 at 8:33 PM ^
About Brian whining too much. Very zen.
September 26th, 2011 at 10:48 AM ^
I just assumed he was a package deal with Tom to ESPN. I guess it's true, these package deals rarely work out in recruiting (coverage).
September 26th, 2011 at 11:05 AM ^
IME,
If the Boss would bring back meaningful negs alot of what others above have mentioned (board going downhill etc) would clean up.
September 26th, 2011 at 11:12 AM ^
If nothing else, I miss the epic neg bangs when morons would be blasted into oblivion. This led to much more entertaining meltdowns.
September 26th, 2011 at 12:55 PM ^
Speaking of which, is there a plan to bring back the neg/pos?
I haven't seen any discussion or comments from Brian about this in a while.
September 26th, 2011 at 3:16 PM ^
He hasn't said anything about it in months. I'm assuming this means he's not bringing them back; it shouldn't have taken this long to find someone to write that program and do it, right? Even going by 2/1/11 (which is pretty late, I believe) it's been over seven months.
September 26th, 2011 at 8:39 PM ^
or I would probably start dropping precipitously after the 14th of November. Sample late-night posbang conversation:
"Well done jhackney. This post deserves a +1." [upvotes jhackney]
"Right back atcha!" [upvotes BD]
"One good turn deserves another!" [upvotes jhackney]
It's like the days of cheap oil: once it's gone, it's gone.
September 26th, 2011 at 11:08 AM ^
You know what I'm tired of (apart from being homeless and sober for at least part of each day)?
All these threads about "____ is ruining this blog with his/her/their opinion about ____!"
For fuck's sake, people disagree. They even do it publically, sometimes. Chill out.
If you think the comments on this blog are bad, you need to re-calibrate your Internet standards. Go read the comments on virtually any other blog or website. You don't need to go to the extreme, like YouTube or the Free Press. Just do a quick survey, and I think you'll have to agree the general level of discourse on MGoBlog is, by Internet standards, well above average in quality and thoughtfulness.
Threads based around some people telling other people what they can or should think or say are obnoxiously Orwellian, and if anything, that's what's most annoying about MGoComments.
That's it; carry on... I'm gonna go get a good Thunder-buzz on. Chunks OUT.
October 3rd, 2011 at 2:05 AM ^
But who knew publically was also acceptable. Learn something every day...

Yeah. I still hear his sexy voice in my dreams.
September 26th, 2011 at 11:45 AM ^
I think I would have been equal parts entertained and disgusted reading his posts during the Notre Dame game.

September 26th, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
So Shoe left because he felt Brian had literally become Big Redacted, I find this humorous
UNSUSTAINABLE. I hate this new meme. Every fucking thing M does in a victory is UNSUSTAINABLE. No shit some of this stuff is UNSUSTAINABLE, Denard goes bomb happy against ND. Reason to celebrate? No it is a reason to panic: UNSUSTAINABLE. Denard doesn't go bomb happy but starts racking up 200 yards a game rushing. Reason to celebrate? No: UNSUSTAINABLE
Some of yall need to stop analyzing for a moment and enjoy being a fan and enjoy this team.
September 26th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
Don't be ridiculous. Rushing yards are actually "super yards." This is why 100 yards passing and 300 yards rushing is worse than 300 yards passing and 100 yards rushing.
September 26th, 2011 at 3:25 PM ^
There's a "green energy"/sustainability joke here, but I'm struggling to find it.
September 26th, 2011 at 3:26 PM ^
I just UNSUSTAINED myself with happiness at this post.
