META: Are we no longer doing LiveBlogs?

Submitted by zh2oson on

In my opinion, the LiveBlog gameday experience was one of the more sublime aspects of watching UM games live.  As a fan living three time zones away from the action, (not to mention a parent and spouse with adult responsibilities) these factored heavily in my decision to watch a game live vs. going the DVR route.

I can't tell you how many injury, substitution, play-call, etc. points I picked up by having the LiveBlog rolling alongside the TV.  Plus, the shared joy (and agony, tbh) with all of you was pretty cool/reassuring.

I enjoyed how the LiveBlog functioned in real-time with no need to refresh in order to see comments. On Saturday we had 1,400-plus posts in the gameday thread here on MGOBLOG 3.0 and it required almost constant clicking to see what was new.  Additionally, even when I set the thread option to show new comments first, my browser was defaulting back to the "oldest posts first" option every time.  Eventually, I just gave up.

Are "we" not doing them any more?

Is the idea that Twitter provides an analogous experience and that the LiveBlog is now passe?

Maybe I'm the only one who cares (or...maybe all the cool kids got invited to the LiveBlog super-secret thread. Now I'm sad.)

The new live blog is going to embed in the new site and we have a beta version but it wasn't stable enough to take out of the garage for a Notre Dame night game.  we are going to try again Saturday I think.

I don't get the whole live blog thing.  I signed in a couple of times last year, and simply could not follow the game and keep up with the blog.  Actually, even when I ignored the game, I couldn't keep up with the liveblog.  Way too many posts in too short a time to read, let alone type out anything before the next topic screamed by.  Not enjoyable at all, from my perspective...

Please tell me that there is a feature which holds everyone's comments in an unceremonious quarantine before they are vetted and posted. That was nice....if you weren't reading them.
