Messi out at Barca

Since football doesn't exist this fall - let's talk about the real futbol.  (Let's be honest, this blog is functionally a soccer blog anyways)

Messi is out at Barca per the twitterz.  He's been with the club since he was 13 but has gotten fed up over the recent mismanagement.  Of note, a clause that he can leave "unilaterally" allowing him to cancel the contract without a 700 million pound release fee.  The lawyers will still have a say in all of this...

ManCity, PSG, or Inter Milan are rumored destinations.

As a longtime Liverpool fan, I've already accepted that Messi is going to Man City. It simply makes too much sense.

Assuming this isn't a ploy to force a dramatic overhaul of Barca's board via the elections, Messi at Man City fits. Man City is banked by Middle Eastern oil barons who can (and will) pay Messi's weekly wages. And Guardiola will be able to slot Messi into the starting XI and adapt around him with the amount of talent MCFC has assembled through expensive signings.

Finally, Man City desperately wants to win the Champions League for the first time in its history. Messi desperately wants to win the Champions League at least one more time. That shared ambition makes it a great match.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool machine will have its work cut out to stay on top. I have faith. FSG and Klopp have methodically assembled a hyper-elite team. And the young kids (Curtis, Neco, Harvey, Rhian, Billy) from our academy are starting to emerge.

We don't spend obscene cash like Barcelona, Man City, PSG. But we have elite results with our frugal approach.

Man City or PSG seem like the only clubs willing to spend the money that also have the talent already in place to win Champions League next season. Mostly likely Man City.

This must mean that the Saudi takeover of Newcastle has finally been green-lit by the Premier League, with Messi as the marquee signing.

As a man city fan, I am very hopeful that we are able to sign Messi.   His relationship with Pep, best friends with Aguero, tiki and Ferran as gm’s from back in the Barca days, plus tons of money to buy him.  A lot of City haters on here, but as a fan of the club for 20 years, I am reveling in the hate ever since the takeover.  This would be yet another reason that the other big clubs would spew their hate for us but that’s ok.   Sterling, Aguero, Messi front three, Debryune, Bernardo, Rodri in midfield. Just need Koulibaly and the team is stacked!!! Just imagine the amount of missed chances we had this last year, and still scored 102 EPl goals.  Liverpool have been great the last two years, but they don’t play the beautiful game that man city does.  With Messi, it could even be taken a level higher.
