MBB Recruit Matt McQuaid to SMU
Class of 2015 SG target Matt McQuaid verbally committed to Larry Brown and SMU today. McQuaid is from Duncanville, TX which is only about 20 minutes away from SMU. Michigan was thought to have a good shot with him, but things aren't always as they seem. Despite missing out on McQuaid and fellow TX wing Austin Grandstaff (OSU), Michigan is still in the running for the SG Jalen Coleman, the #31 overall recruit in the class.
Larry Brown gets the title for best recruiter of the past twelve months, hands down.
he has learned to use bag men.

anytime UM loses a recruit, somebody says something like this.....
has a pretty good resume to recruit with.
73 year old Larry Brown. Even I think that's pretty damn old to be out there on the recruiting trail.
Pony Express 2
rankings you look at. Some have Coleman ahead of Grandstaff, some have it the other way. Rivals and 247 like Coleman and Grandstaff more than McQuaid, while ESPN has McQuaid and Grandstaff similarly ranked with Coleman about 20 spots below.
sam said today michigan now go after Eron Harris the transfer from wv
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk is going to let people know on may 21 if hes going to u.s collage 2014 player. better than all theses guys
lol
take a look in your pants?
Is old and moldy.
/twss
I had thought that a small part of the interest in Michigan stemmed not only from the fact that he did seem open to Michigan and Beilein's system, but that McQuaid also had family here too (I think UMHoops mentioned that his dad was from Midland or somewhere around there).
All the same, a solid pickup for Larry Brown and the Mustangs - as the article mentions, it is sort of intriguing to see Brown at 73 getting the guys that he has to go to SMU and taking them to places they've not been for a while.
targets are flying off the board. I really hope we don't caught on the outside looking in. Its pretty clear the staff put all their eggs in the Jalens basket which is pretty risky IMO. We can't afford to get stuck taking 2 plan C wing players again this year.
If LeVert and Irvin both have huge years and enter the draft, we could be left in a precarious situation. Yes, Beilein is some type of wizard, but I'm not sure how I'd feel entering a season with Chatman, MAAR, Dawkins and Plan-C 2015 wing option manning the perimeter spots. Until then though, I'm still enjoying the ride and have high hopes of landing at least one but possbily both of the Jalens.
to say right now. How many of us would have said last May that Stauskas was a lottery pick this year?
Good for him.
As I've said numerous times, let's see how the season plays out before anyone gets too worried about 2015 kids verbally pledging to a program in May.
by any means, but I believe the early signing period is usually in November.
The early signing period is always in November. It's Nov. 12-19 this year. One difference from a couple years ago and earlier is that the 2015 prospects are able to take official visits right now and don't have to wait until September. I think that's speeding up the decision process for some of the top prospects; they might have waited to make their choice in the fall under the previous rules on official visits.
I think once they sign LOIs they are off the table, but (a) that doesn't mean they will sign them when they are available, and (b) kids tend to change their mind. That said, trying to get a kid out of Texas is never easy, and Brown is building something nice there at SMU and has the credentials to convince kids to give them a look.
Sam Webb talked about Coleman on today's recruiting roundup. Coleman's dad told Sam that they are going to try to bring his recruitment into focus in the next couple of weeks. Coleman won't necessarily be making a decision in that time frame, but it sounds like he might be cutting his list, perhaps in advance of some official visits.
Sam also said that, as the 2015 recruiting board becomes clearer over the few weeks, he wouldn't be surprised if Beilein & Co.—if the options on the board don't look that desirable—take a more serious look at Eron Harris, the transfer from West Virginia.
He also talked about Seth Towns, the 2016 prospect from Trey Burke's high school, and said that not only is he visiting Michigan this Friday but he also plans to camp at Michigan. And Towns is pretty confident that he'll pick up a Michigan offer come June 15.
EDIT: Just saw that Coleman is one of the 21 USA Basketball U18 inviteees along with Kameron Chatman. The June 10-19 training camp could be an opportunity for Chatman to do some recruiting.
I took Sam's mention of Harris as him maybe trying to manage expectations about our other targets, which if true, is kind of depressing. High end wing players should be lining up to play for this staff and in this system.
Coleman
Ahrens/Turner
3 * center with tons of upside but will need to develop
That is good right?
Waiting on some post players to show interest...
It seems like it is helping for the 2016 class.
To play devil's advocate, at this time last year people were saying it was really going to help with 2015 recruiting, with names like Stone, Zimmerman, Bragg, Kennard, etc all being linked with high interest...
But, I'm still hopeful for at least one of the Jalens and that we will be able to find a big man even if its not one of those five stars.
this time last year. I'll beleive it when I see it
I am waiting for the same thing, football recruiting has been my thing not basketball so I took everyones word that the impact of the tourney runs wouldnt take effect till two years down the road. Still believing in the people who know more than I do but now after the past two years of runs I was expecting more intrest to peak sort of like it did with memphis after they had a couple solid years under calipari. Hopefully after this draft where we could have a couple guys go in the first round high schoolers will see there is something legit going on at michigan and want to be a part of building the bball tradition back to where it was in the late 80s and early 90s
Michigan hasn't exactly been a talent hotbed and isn;t a name like Duke, Kansas, etc. Long way to go before those runs mean anything. Until then, Beilein's eye for talent and an occasional big name are going to have to be the way of it. It's frustrating, but thats the way it is.
Sedrick Baresfield and no Matt McQuaid...ouch!
I know AJ Tuner isn't "the" sexy pick but his stock is on the rise and he seems to be gaining a lot of attention. Turner has spent the past year in prep school at New Hampton (sound familiar?). This article's interesting in that Turner gives a ton of credit for his improved game to one guy. None other than team mate, Aubrey Dawkins. Here's your optimism for the day.

John Beilein talked for a few minutes at the Ufer dinner tonight, said UM may not be done with 2014 recruiting. Could use one more scholly
Sviat or Harris?
Sviat is a super player. 2 year and done player
keep negging away and i'll continue to be right LOL
"but but we getting 3 5 * in 2015!"
