MBB Rankings

Rankings are out. If you have actually watched this team you know they are top 20 caliber. I know rankings are mostly meaningless but still can’t believe we don’t crack the top 25 after pounding UCF. This team has more depth at key positions than I’ve seen in a while and I feel Wagner and Livers are going to start dominating. Williams, Dickinson, Brown, Johns and hopefully Zeb make us 10 deep solid. I’d say even our bench has outplayed the starters.

They are skeptical of Michigan every year, thats my point. We lost Z and Teske and the entire basketball world acted like the team was gonna be in the dumpster. UK loses their entire team but its "look at the talent they have coming in". BTW, Richmond barely beat Wofford today. Richmond got into the top 25 by beating UK, not because they are world beaters. Frustration isn't with you, its not over one poll 4 weeks in, its because its every year Michigan has to constantly prove itself all season.

Well, while I want to think you are right.  The issue is that now that we most likely won't play NC ST our non conference schedule is hot garbage.   It will be very hard to move up the rankings in the B1G and therefore our tournament (if there is one) seeding will suffer.    Unfortunately, the rankings don't rerank each week as they should.   They just incrementally move up or down slightly based on the most recent games.

Btw, how in the holy heck is Kansas in the top 10.   Their "big win" was against an unranked team.   Heck BGSU is probably a bigger win than Kentucky.

I thought last week's ranking outside the Top 25 was a nothing-burger, a superficial reaction to one close game. And this week's ranking is still too early in the season to get agitated about.

But clearly the wanker rankers didn't watch the game we did.

You can’t look at these things in a vacuum, other unranked teams have played high major competition in neutral site environments. Whereas we’ve played mid-major competition in Crisler. Yes I believe we are a top-20 team but it all will take care of itself.

The hype machine is exactly reversed from football. The FB team is generally ranked too highly at the start of the season AND often gets a reputation bump at the end, too.

MBB is the reverse -- underrated. But there's the tourney and that gets us where we need to be.

And the block was clean.

They haven't played any top teams, true. But few teams have at this point. It's weird that M isn't ranked in the 15-20 range, based on both their recent history and their accumulated talent.
