MBB to play at Little Caesars Arena in 2017?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

So I heard about this earlier.

There is a Freep article about new Detroit head coach Bacari Alexander meeting with media on Wednesday and it mentions an interesting prospect.

It appears that Michigan and Detroit are working on playing in the first-ever event at the new Little Caesars Arena in 2017.

EDIT: Not the first event period but the first BASKETBALL game.

This is actually historically significant. Why?

Because what was the first-ever event of any kind at Joe Louis Arena? Michigan Basketball vs Detroit on December 12, 1979, an 85-72 Michigan win.

Yeah........I guess the Freep is wrong again. Surprise.

The reason we got to play in the first game at the Joe was because the Wings began the 1979-80 season at Olympia and moved into the Joe in late December.

Do grown ups not care about journalistic integrity? Because the freep straight up lied about Michigan football. I'm not sure growing up is going to somehow make the freep something other than a shitty publication. I and many others can feel free to dislike them for plenty of reasons, especially for misrepresenting college freshmen and not knowing countable hours rules while shitting on the school I graduated from

As I recall, one of the reasons that Little Caesars Arena (please rename this, Illitch Holdings) exists - well, aside from hockey - is for the potential to bring things like the Final Four or other similar tournaments to Detroit, so piloting basketball with a game during someone's regular season makes sense.

They are working quickly on this arena too - each time I am downtown for a meeting, it looks radically different.
