MBB: Kenny Williams to UNC

Submitted by Erik_in_Dayton on

I thought I'd post this in case anyone wondered whether Michigan might be able to get back into Williams' recruitment.  An interesting - if academic - question is whether Michigan stopped recruiting Williams because they thought Brown was theirs (as board chatter suggested).  Either way, though, Williams is off the board.

I didnt see a top 100 player seriously coming here once Caris returned.  He had no major role as a freshman.  I think he was (correctly) being recruited as a Caris replacement.  Once that fell through he was basically competing with MAAR for 5 minutes most nights as a backup.  Spike will probably be playing some 2 guard sets with Walton as well so on nights there was not a quick 2 on Caris I just didn't see a role for him as a freshman.

Apparently the UNC coaching staff wasn't even expecting him to commit. They thought he was going to UVA for sure.

I'm not a "professional" scout but I have an opinion based on intensely detailed observation. I have been  STUDying Austin Davis' highlight film and  I noticed something no one has mentioned.

HE NEVER MISSES A SHOT IN PRACTICE OR GAMES.

Sometimes we miss the obvious.

Starting 2016 we can't lose, just feed it to AD.

It's hard to get very excited about a player who won't see the court for over two more years. Is it a given that he'll RS in 2016? For that matter, is it really a slam-dunk that Spike will be able to return to the court with no issues after having surgery to both hips?

Y'know, when I watched Sam McGuffie's mixtape it was the same sort of thing—every time he touched the ball he was hurdling guys on his way to 70-yd touchdown runs. I couldn't believe it when he didn't do the same thing here.

Max is serviceable, but he's not a center. The future at the 5 has to be the development of Doyle, Donnal, Wagner, and possibly DJ Wilson in small spurts. That group doesn't even have to score.

They are needed for two reasons: stop penetration in the lane and grab the loose boards that become easy put-back opportunities.
