Love him or hate him, he's coming back. Good to hear about his recovery regardless.
Glad he’s healthy enough to work.
He talks us up when he's calling our games.
Wouldn't be surprised if he gets the season opener.
I'm actually rather curious to hear his thoughts on #SpeedinSpace.
Though it will be odd to hear him call a Michigan game without hearing "follow the fullback" a dozen times.
Glad he's healthy, not glad he's commentating.
You said it nicely, Chuck. Terrific that he is healthy. But he was the worst GM in the history of the NFL, supported Paterno, and nobody in the BIG should have to listen to this d-bag.
Why doesn't he go work out West for one of those conferences? People in Nevada and New Mexico probably may enjoy listening to him. Folks in Michigan - not so much...
He is a Penn State alum, hence the support for Paterno and also why he works for the Big Ten network.
Paterno was a scum bag. No excuse to stay loyal to him after it was revealed that he covered up horrible abuse.
Hes an east coast guy . Meaning he lives close to the B1G , so this is ,the area im sure where he would prefer to work . The ACC is another option, but i doubt they pay as well as the B1G .
He probably "doesn't go work out West for one of those conferences" because he lives in Pennsylvania. Traveling 4000+ miles round-trip every week isn't for everyone.
As for "supporting Paterno" - as best I know, there are minimal (if any?) examples of Millen doing that for 6+ years now. He's not Franco Harris.
Yes, Millen was on ESPN supporting Paterno a few hours after the release of the Freeh Report. I'd guess, in retrospect, he wishes he would have told ESPN "no, I'm not going on SportsCenter today, let me process this whole situation first."
I've forgiven Millen for that. I've forgiven his Detroit Lions stint too. Let him spend some of his twilight years calling Michigan vs Illinois football games on BTN.
I've forgiven Millen for that.
Yeah, most Ped State fans have forgiven just about everyone. Except for remembering the victims over the course of their ongoing hubris.
He may have been a lousy GM, but I've always thought he was a pretty good color announcer. Glad he's healthy enough to work again.
Exactly. He knows what he's talking about in the booth, just like he knew how to play the game. It was in the front office where he had no clue as to what he was doing.
He's far more likely to say something insightful than a lot of his peers. Sometimes he kind of sucks, sometimes he's great. I'll take that over consistently dull.
he was the worst GM in the history
Russ Thomas did more damage to the Lions than Millen.
God Damnit
What's wrong with you man? Would you rather have Chuck Long or Glen Mason in the booth? Millen is a good dude and a good analyst. Not the greatest GM, but there isn't a GM that has ever "GM'ed" that could do anything to make the Lions a winner.
Not the greatest GM might be a little bit of an understatement sir.
Nevertheless I'm glad he's healthy and I enjoy listening to him in games.
There is nothing wrong with me. I just don’t like listening to him after he set the Lions back even more than usual.
And since I’m getting negs, I’ll mention that I don’t care about fictional points that don’t matter.
Then have another.
awe, thanks.
What does being a GM have to do with being an analyst?
He was a terrible GM. He is a great analyst. He is really good at diagnosing offensive and defensive schemes during the play. The only analyst that comes to mind that is better is Tony Romo.
I’d say Spielman is better.
It doesn't, but being a good analyst also has nothing to do whether I like him or not
Congratulations to Matt. Screw heart disease.
That's good news, and I like Matt calling games also.
Good person. Shitty GM. Go get'em Matt. He likes Harbaugh. Gives Michigan a fair shake in his broadcasts.
No reason not to celebrate his return to work, glad he's doing well after his heart transplant and back to what he loves doing.
I'm not even mad anymore about his failures as Detroit Lions GM. It really doesn't matter who is GM because as long as the Ford family owns the Lions, there is no hope.
I like how the article, when extolling Matt’s football career highlights, didn’t breath a word about his eight years running the Lions. We’ll always have a 0-16 season to share, Matt.*
* the 0-16 regular season was preceded by going 4-0 in the “exhibition” season.
That's awesome! Things were looking pretty grim last year. I've always liked him in the booth, even way back when he was calling NFL games.
Wow... Good for him. He lucked out finding a donor...I hope he didn't cut the waiting list....
Good to hear.
Say what you want about his commentating but Michigan always wins when he is color man playing trash teams on BTN.
Glad he's healthy enough to do this
He's a good announcer. At least I enjoyed his announcing. Either way, glad he's healthy again.
Great to hear he is healthy.
I hate his announcing. I think his insights are lame and his voice reminds me of the hope and disappointment his GM career put me through.
Glad he's doing better and able to do something he enjoys.
Most announcers have quirks/personalities that are annoying.
Enjoy/dispise him while you can.
How do you "hate" someone after what he has gone through?
Great news regarding his health.
Thought that fuk croaked. Wonder which receiver he woulda selected with the #1 pick this year.
Is it socially acceptable to resume hating him yet or no
I think he’s a good commentator and I’m glad he’s healthy. I don’t care about how bad of a gm he was in this context. The only thing that really bothers me is him screaming gay slurs at Johnnie Morton
Sandusky n Millen were shower smitten.
Glad to hear that he has recovered. However, there is no reason that he should be a commentator for BTN.
I share the sentiment of most others. I am happy that he is healthy. His rah rah old school way of promoting the Big 10 is nice but the guy doesn't seem to do his homework. I can't get past the "experienced" Michigan line comment about a line that included 3 underclassmen. Apparently the experienced benchmark includes starts in high school.
Stud bolt!
I’m glad he’s healthy enough to get back into it. He’s definitely a football guy. I’m glad to see him back in the booth. He’ll have some interesting comments - he’s been around.
Great! Can't wait to hear Millen say, "ok, all you kids out there make sure you run with your eyes," and other such nuggets of dumb.
Good for him! I like him as an analyst. I'm not a Lions fan so I don't have any ill will on that front.
Good news for Mr. Millen about his health. Happy to hear he’s able to get back in the booth. That being said, I don’t listen to any of the analysis during Michigan football games. Even when the sound is on, I’m not listening.
Didn't even know he was having serious health issues. Glad he has recovered to the point of working again. What an incredible world we live in where you can get a new/used major organ installed and walk away. Whatever he ends up doing with BTN, hope his heart is in it.
