Per his Twitter account. This certainly seemed inevitable, looking forward to seeing who we end up with at RB(Kareem please)!

...a medical exemption scholarship for situations like this.

Kid gets hurt in between commiting and signing day give him a year to rehab without his scholarship counting against the 82 limit after that year he can join the team and count against the limit, go full medical or transfer without sitting a year.

NCAA, nearly a century of making it hard to get an education for athletes!

Yeah but how many teams would start to use that as a recruiting loophole?

No room in the recruiting class? Oh wow you "rolled your ankle" son, here's a one year scholarship that doesn't count against us and keeps you from someone else. You'll still be able to be with the team and "rehab" and learn everything else, and we PROMISE you'll be really on the team next year...

There could also be a limit of 1 or 2 at most per school. Nothing wrong with telling a kid that the one for their year is already used and let them get one at another school. How often does this actually happen? Anyone think every school in the country has one let alone two of these every year? Seems like a once every few years kind of thing at most. Especially if the kid has to be committed already for it to coint

......to "take the medical" ends the chance at him ever playing football at UofM, where as if he has an independently verified injury that threatens his career he could get his freshman year started, rehab and then have the choice to continue to play or not.

The most obvious benefit would be for the players that have mild concussion type injuries that would greatly benefit from a year off from football activities.

Not to mention, if you give a kid a year to explore "playing school" at his favorite university, he may actually learn to value the education more than the opportunity to "go Pro"; which I think, is the whole point of intercollegiate sports, to convince people of the value of education.

Or making a shitload of $$$$....one or the other.

and REALLY liked his potential if he remained healthy. You never drop a kid over an injury but when they're going on their 2nd or 3rd in HS? He could have still came here but I understand his desire to play. If he can get to form and remain healthy he'll be a steal. I suspect a MAC team will get a guy that can't suit up or an AA caliber HB.

It sucks but I agree with what Harbaugh did. To be successful you can't always be Mr. nice guy. I really hope we end up with Walker. We are in DIRE need of a game changing RB. We haven't had one since Hart.

All the best to the kid, but I really hopes he knows what he is doing. He is turning down a free degree from a world class institution to chase a dream. I hope he is very successful in all his endeavors.

Him discussed. Knowing Harbaugh, he kept his part of the deal and is the head coach of an Elite Staff. Another commit coming soon?

The comments were in called for. Dude was told not to play his senior year and rehab and he played anyway and got hurt again for the 3rd time. Just goes to show that the ELITE team is Blue and the ELITE coaching staff still offered him a scholly. Sad day

I know he is 18, but his Tweet SMACKS of Entitlement.   If what has been written is true, and that Michigan/Harbaugh gave him options to a) get healthy and not play for Southfield or b) get a free full ride medical scholarshiip.... then he is just another Pipkins using the internet to unfairly criticize Michigan.

Yippie Ki Yay Mr. Falcon.

I think a lot of people forget that these 18 year olds are supposed to be surrounded by adults who can help them make the best decisions. It could be just the parents, just to coach, or hopefully both. If the rumors are true that his parents are the ones who pushed him to play his senior year and his coach was okay with it, then they certainly did him an injustice. He definitely has misplaced anger.

Not sure about his family situation financially but maybe a PWO for year 1 and if it goes well he can earn a scholarship?  Maybe a transfer after a year or two?

Sad to see him lose out on his dream, but should have listened to the medical advice.

C'mon now! The kid is obviously mad that UofM pulled is scholly. He thinks he can still play and wants to play at Michigan. He's just bitter and I can't blame him, most of us would be too! I understand the situation completely and agree with Michigan's stance. He will get a shot and I hope things work out for him, but any school that does so is doing so at a very high risk.
