Martinez said he thought the play was over?

As he was fighting for yards and driving his legs and the whistle hadn’t blown, that’s his excuse for being stripped of the ball?

I thought the play was over?

that’s like Charles White in the 79 rose bowl saying he thought he had scored so he let the ball go when he actually fumbled at the 2, M recovered and they awarded him a TD anyway.

people that can’t accept they blew it and own their mistakes make me ill.

eff Martinez

LOL. Let's say it's 4th and 3 instead of 4th and 1. The offensive runs the same play, the defense does too. It progresses exactly as our reality did except that the yards to go were 2 higher and I'll add one more difference: Brad Hawkins doesn't go for a strip. Can you imagine the shit storm that Nebraska would be having if they blew the whistle dead in that moment, assuming this happens before he gets a first down? Can you picture how justifiably irate they'd be about blowing a play dead where forward progress wasn't even close to being stopped and nobody's knee was down? It would basically be as mind numbingly stupid of a ref move as 'JT was short.' Martinez, Frost, and Nebraska's fans are being complete and total jackasses about this play.

Michigan won, why get so rattled over this…but I watched the Nebraska postgame show where they review film with Scott Frost and he was very matter of fact and said Martinez needs to take care of the ball better period. So no excuses on that end

Yeah, I am not a fan of the guy, but if you watch all of his post-game stuff, he was pretty rational about it all. He wanted more calls to go his way but didn't seem to make excuses. Everyone wants every call to go his way. He is probably a pretty good fit for that program and is likely to have some solid seasons if Nebraska is patient enough with him. It is unlikely a change in head coaches would improve their prospects any, unless Saban develops a sudden corn fetish.

Frost’s reaction immediately after the fumble happened showed that he knew it was a clean fumble. He wasn’t running around screaming “his forward progress was stopped.” Just like Martinez’s awful interception in OT vs MSU, he realized his team just squandered an amazing second half and a chance for his first signature win in 4 years

Play to the whistle is not accurate. The whistle rarely causes the ball to become dead in football (unlike basketball). The results of the play do. So sometimes officials may wait on a whistle to make sure the players knee really was down etc., because having a delay is far better than having an inadvertent whistle. Not hearing a whistle does not give a player justification to go in and unload on a player when it is clear the play has ended. So it is possible to have forward progress stopped and the play dead, but still have a delayed whistle. Unfortunately for Martinez, this was not the case, and he looks like a whiny douchbag.

Many is the time we have seen a ball carrier try to plow forward for extra yards despite believing that the play was over and being unaware of their forward momentum, merely for the the purpose of getting an extra couple yards after the whistle that never blew. Who among us hasn't been in THAT situation before, right?

After the way our running backs kept driving their legs and getting extra yards there's no way the refs were going to stop plays early. Its a sorry excuse for costing his team.

Here is the question to Nebraska fans. After the last push he breaks free and scores the winning touchdown. Does any Nebraska fan or player say that shouldnt count? Yeah I thought so.

I don't care what level of sports you play...all the way back to elementary school sports you are taught to play until the whistle. What a pathetic excuse, and shameless lie. Hold that L all the way into the new week buddy.
