Looks like Michigan might be interested in Justin Shorter

I would rather have Justin Taller

Justin Longer would be good too.

I'll take Justin Credible.

I heard he was on a shortlist of transfers that we would consider.

Justin is 6'4" so he's taller enough

Justin Cornerbacker.

This post was a little wordy. It could have been shorter

Just in time with this shorter comment.

Groovy. I'm on my way down to Happy Valley right now in a Penn State hat. I'll utter a racial slur around him (randomly generated) so he can get a hardship transfer. It's my holiday gift to Mgoblog.

Bonus points if you wear an old man mask and go by the name "Dave Petersen".
November 27th, 2019 at 10:09 AM ^
That would never work....for us!
November 27th, 2019 at 9:28 AM ^
Shorter was the #1 player from New Jersey. The old saying goes "the best HS players in New Jersey play for Michigan" or something like that. He should have signed with us to begin with.
With possible WRs leaving early for the draft we could use him.
November 27th, 2019 at 9:29 AM ^
Yes please!... would penn state be able to deny him from coming to Michigan since we are in the same Conference and Division?
November 27th, 2019 at 10:05 AM ^
Only if they want to look like total jerks, which, of course, would be a step or two up for Ped State.
November 27th, 2019 at 10:42 AM ^
What a stain on their reputation that would be
November 27th, 2019 at 11:29 AM ^
Not anymore. That's part of the new transfer portal. Once a player enters any school can contact and sign him.
November 27th, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
Well, unless something has changed recently, if you transfer within the B1G you can't be on scholarship. Unless you're a grad transfer which I would assume he couldn't be since only 2 years out of high school.
November 27th, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
Uh... something HAS changed. It’s called the transfer portal. He would either sit for a year on scholarship, or play immediately.
Remeber Oliver Martin?
November 27th, 2019 at 12:03 PM ^
The transfer portal doesn't really have anything to do with whether you have to pay your own way or not. It's just a means for schools to contact the players. Plus that's NCAA wide and not the B1G intraconference transfer rules which is separate set of rules that is still in place. But thanks for the clarification. Obviously I'm not current on the rules and should have looked them up.

Why not? High upside if he reaches his recruiting potential and no downside since UM would still be in pretty good shape at WR if he turned into a recruiting bust.

Good athlete.
November 27th, 2019 at 9:58 AM ^
Without knowing anything about him other than his recruiting profile, I guess I don't have a strong opinion as to whether we'd rather use a scholarship on a transfer or a recruit.
What I will say is that I feel a lot better about our WR depth next year than I thought I would before this season. Here's my dumb take on next year:
- Collins - 25% chance he comes back, would be AA candidate
- DPJ - 50% chance he comes back, would be All-B10 candidate
- Black - 75% chance he comes back, maybe All-B10 candidate
- Bell - maybe All-B10 candidate
- Johnson - looks pretty good in limited action
- Sainristil/Jackson - more snaps available next year if Bell moves outside
We're definitely going to need depth in two years as recruiting has been light recently and it is unlikely that Bell or Black stick around two more years.

I would go more like
Nico <5% to return
DPJ >50% to return
Tarik > 95% to return
Whats cool here would be that he wants to go to a program that doesn’t waste 5* talent.
Speed in Space seems real now.
November 27th, 2019 at 11:07 AM ^
I agree that this is more likely as the 2020 NFL draft appears like it will be loaded at the WR position.
November 27th, 2019 at 10:46 AM ^
I think Nico and DPJ go. I could see Bell going after next year. If they get Shorter, they’re probably ok to have him sit out a year. Might need him more in 2021.
November 27th, 2019 at 10:25 AM ^
A bit wary of 5 star players who have had 2 years and haven't done much, but it seems worth it given the WR depth may be pretty thin after this year.
November 27th, 2019 at 10:47 AM ^
Wouldn't he need to pay his own way after transferring inside the conference? Or did that rule get axed?
November 27th, 2019 at 11:36 AM ^
That rule got axed almost ten years ago. The rule that replaced it got axed too. Now players can transfer within the Big Ten as easily as to another conference. Like Oliver Martin did.
November 27th, 2019 at 12:00 PM ^
But there was still an onerous rule on that when it changed around like 8 years ago or so. Unless the prior school gave you a full release then you had to sit out a year and you lost a year of eligibility. Believe they dropped that more recently.
